Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

Hi guys. my problem is is that after i break my fast (usually with a date and some water and some fruit) my stomach HURTS SOOOOO BAD. i try to eat as lightly as possible like a fruit salad or something light and no matter what i try it aches the rest of the night. it feels so so so full and tired and just aching. what can i do?

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

I'm having the same issues. In fact, mine is worse, I also feel a burning sensation in my stomach during the day even though I'm eating lots of yogurt. I'm going to the doctor today...sorry, wish I knew a home remedy to cure this.

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

awww sorry to hear about these problems....

Pakifairy: Just try to eat whatever "regular" food you might have at that time daily (regular dinner)- like just take a small piece of date just to break the fast and then eat the REGULAR dinner only. Do not overfill yourself. Do not stuff yourself with "hard" fruits - such as apples, pears, etc. eat a pieace or 2 of some watermelon.

Not a professional advise, but I hope it helps.

Naqsa: The burning sensation might be because of spicy food.. just don't eat spicy stuff!

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

Fruit has acidity .. avoid eating fruit salad if tummy is hurting ..

My husband gets that because of acidity/ acid reflux after he eats the fried and spicy food and stuffs too much.....
Doctor told him to take pepcid, its one pill a day and he only takes it when he gets this burning feeling, but after one pill he feels a lot better and has been a good eater or atleast tries.... but once in a wehile he gets it and pepcid works wonders!

Very true! fruit juices, fruits cause acidity which truns into acid reflux. it not just burning sensation but for some people its only pain. Also avoid too much of dairy... u wud think eating yougrt and drinking milk will help acidity but according to my doctor it doesnt....
also avoid mint and chutneys stuff.....

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

Basically its because you've been 16 hours without food and the acid lining your stomach has nothing to work on. Try having foods like milk , yoghurt , dates and a banana for Sehri. These stay longer and take longer to digest. You'll feel full and less heartburn.

Also at Iftar avoid spicy ,fried foods right away....have again something milder and soothing like yoghurt and then eat after a while. You could take a Zantac 150mg tablet if you feel the heartburn is really bad.

Actuallu its a misconception about having milk to relive heartburn , it just makes it rebound worse.......its better to have almonds or cool cumcumbers , I hear those help !

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

Hmmm.........it's possible that the acid in fruit is giving you a stomach ache. Some people believe that certain food groups should not be combined because they can upset the stomach.

Try eating something different than fruit chaat. Try eating yogurt. Yogurt has enzymes that destroy bacteria and that help clean and neutralize our digestive system. So try eating dehi baray.....or dehi chaat (chana chaat in yogurt). But don't make it too spicy.

It's possible that you're eating food that is too spicy. Spicy foods can cause stomach aches. So, don't put too much chaat masala in your fruit chaat. I also know that SOMETIMES there can be a problem in the quality of the chaat masala. Maybe that's the problem.

Maybe you're eating too fast? Take your time when you eat. Carefully chew your food before swallowing. Don't rush it. In Ramzan, we're so hungry that we eat one dish......and then we quickly grab another. For example.......we finish the bowl of fruit chaat....and the very next second......we chow down 4 samosay.......and then a millisecond later.....we down the pakoray, etc etc. It could wreak havoc on your digestive system. So....slow down when you eat. Maybe you need to give a little break before eating something else.

If this problem STILL persists............please consult a doctor.

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

Well in my case...I don't eat a lot of spicy food and this problem had been going on for a few months but I ignored it. I think it flared-up because my stomach was empty. Have to go for a stomach scan tomorrow...may get some answers next week. Till then I'm just going to take pepto at sehri. Let's see how it goes. I don't want to give-up fasting because of this :-( Ramadhan comes once a year.

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

^ Pepto?

you mean pepto Bismol?

yo isn't that for diarrhea?

howz that gonna help?

that is so right, a major misconception that drinking milk takes care of heartburn

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

i eat a lot of plain yogurt when breaking fast too. ill try again tho. its not heartburn its a paoin ithe stomach like i feel a rock is sitting there.

Treats nausea,** heartburn**, indigestion, upset stomach and diarrhea

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

Dont have tea after iftar. i had tea on the first day after iftar, and my stomach felt so full n heavy. ive stopped having tea this ramadan and i dont feel the urge to have it now. maybe tea at sehri is a better idea but i dun have it cos i wouldnt be able to fall asleep if i did :S

You couldn't have told me that any sooner!

For heartburn - try TUMS - it's the best! It works for me instantly.

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

If your stomach is feeling heavy, you might have gas or constipation.. Increase your fibre intake. Try Ispaghol.

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

I have the same problems. My stomach feels so full. My thing is, I am not used to eating breakfast at all and then eating at sehri just makes me real sick. I try to eat less but I have to wait for hours before I could go back to sleep.

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

i overeat all the time at sehri and aftari and it hurts.....but then again i am getting used to it n gaining weight lol ramxan comes jst once in a yr LOLX
anyhow you can walk around a little...... hope that helps :) and then go to masjid for tarawees if the offer space for ladies.....i do that at times and it helps :)

Re: Tummy hurts so bad after I eat iftar (even if i eat very light)

Sorry for reviving an old topic but I assume many still have this problem and I couldn't help but contribute this which nobody seems to have mentioned.

The pain is caused by acidity and the most acidic of the acids is HCL which catalyzes the denaturing of protein in food (i.e. from meat). So, to avoid the pain, refrain from ingesting protein as the first food item at iftaar. Fat and starch digesting acids/enzymes do not cause acidity.

Also, milk is no good to relieve pain. Any bicarbonate will neutralize the acids as that's exactly what happens at lateral phases of digestion and to protect the stomach lining from being digested itself.
