good question, it does happen.
my one brother and 3 sisters live in India. they take care of it. they lease out land for cultivation and fruits annually.
they pay certain amount in cash and grains [1/3] plus Daali [fruits] @ 5 kg per tree.
we have all the property in villages and people respect our family there sonobody dares to take away any of our properties. alHamdolillah.

I haven’t read any of her novels. Though sne of my cousin has given ‘Bano’ to my sister which is in our study. But, I have read her autobiography ‘BichhRe Lamhe’. Its a good read.
