Who is going to win? Can you guess by what margin?
I say, Republicans are going to win with the slim majority that the Democrats have right now.

IMHO the saddest part possibly of these elections is Wellstone's passing away. What a personal loss for his family.
Secondarily, a significant public loss for the rest of us - Wellstone's first vote cast in the Senate was against the Persian Gulf War, he was opposed to a number of this administration's unilateral war policies. Insha'Allah Mondale will be able to retain that critical seat.
I am looking at my own state, as the past Democratic Gov. is going to have a hard time getting re-elected. Especially with his education plan being totally flopped & the state is in a worse condition than it was when he got elected.
The other race I am looking at is of Gov. Jeb Bush.
we have the great opportunity to see which crook gets the office. I do wish that they had a box marked, want to vote but dont want to support either of these clowns.
US elections
so whats everyone’s take, senate under GOP control or dems? I just read the news on the temp assignee to Wellstone’s post by ventura,a nd this guy looks pretty good, wonder why people like him dont get much press.
Is the two party system bad? should there be more choices..real choices. e.g. here in Illinois, I have no clue which guy is going to be better Jim Ryan or Blagojevich for governer. The campaign had been fairly negative from both camps and I know more about skeletons in their closets than what the actual plans and platforms they have.
The sad thing is the media has done a piss poor job of really identifying and discussing the key differences in their plans, it has solely focused on the smear ads.
The two party system has it’s good & bads. It keeps a balance and the house doesn’t get hung like the case right now in Pakistan. The bad thing is that it discourages people who do not agree with either of the party agenda’s to go their own way. Though, there have been independents who won & the early/mid part of the last century third parties emerged as significant contenders (but later on get merged in either of the two parties).
The GOP might win the house but it will be no more than one or two seats.
p.s: I already started a thread about tomorrow’s elections ![]()
sorry dude, i was kinda looking at it more from a philosphical perspective of the 2 party system etc, cuz Dean Barkley looks more solid than the dem and GOP cadidates from Minne-snow-ta.
no worris it is merged here and das okay too
Fraudz, people are free to start as may political parties as they want. Tomorrow, I am voting for the Marijuana Reform party guy for Governor of New York.
Democrat
Republican
Right To Life
Green
Independence
Conservative
Liberal
Libertarian
Working Families
And my favorite:
Marijuana Reform Party.
I am voting for Thomas J. Hillgardner for Governor of New York.
My cousin, an enviromentalist & an actavist for the green party can't stop talking about Nadar! I hope he doesn't get the air of Marijuana Reform party.
So, who seems to be winning in your state & over all? :~)
I think you need to define what “win” means. Really, I’m being serious!!! This isn’t like Clinton trying to define the meaning of “is.”
Typically, in off year elections, the party with the white house loses seats in the Senate and House and governorships. I think there has been only one off year election that this has not occurred in this century (back in the FDR days).
Republican spin-meisters will argue that the Republicans won if they lose less seats in both houses of Congress than the historical average (20 some House seats and a couple Senate seats). Their objective is, of course to hold the house majority and take over the Senate.
Democratic Spin-meisters will argue that the Dems won the election if they gain any house seats, win some governorships and can retain control of the Senate.
Given that the American electorate looks like it will cast ballots on a national basis pretty much in proportion to the final Gore/Bush popular vote, it is unlikely that the current balance will be tipped much at all. Nevermind what the spin-meisters say, a very few key Senate seats are the prize and whoever gets the majority of them is the winner.
The loser, in either case, will be the American people. Even if one party controls the Senate and House, the margin of control will be too small to break the gridlock and make a difference.
myvoice, the GOP might surprise you ... after all it's beginning of a new century! Just like the FDR times. :)
Republicans Charging Towards Senate Takeover
Checks and Balances are on the fringe as the Republicans are looking like they could take over the Senate which would score Bush and his party a trifecta , still to early to tell though....
Yikes!
Jeff Bush won from Florida ;)
:D
Republicans got the control of Congress!
REPUBLICANS!!!!
See ... our guppies are so happy that the Republicans won the election that they don't know how to react! :) Yeah, what about the Republicans?
