Have you been through the torture?
What do you ppl think of it. The pros and cons, is it in any sense productive.
Dont we have any other better means of doing the whole intro drama.
Whats the guyz/galz take on it ?
I had to go through that with when I was picking out a wife for myself, it is quite disgusting, something like a meat market, where a guy goes around and all virgins/chicks come out with tray and trolley for tea so you can see and sort of make adecision based on looks and what the parents tell you about her.
Very primitive. I refused, I told the mother of the girl thats fine she wants to come and push trays, thats fine but you gotta give me time to get to know her before the marriage/engagement. I am glad they agreed and I found out that the girls was not for me or better yet the girl didnt think that I was made for her, which is fine, I have been dejected, rejected, and de-selected before. Welcome to the meat market.
Never been thru it. Oh well. Hm…I dunno if this counts, but one time, I think my parents wanted to show me off at this picnic. The couple throwing the party has a son about my age, and my father apparently really likes him or whatever. My parents had been talking to the guy when I was at the uni on the weekends…and I didn’t realize it until my sister told me AFTER the picnic that they probably wanted me to meet the family and the guy.
My father was so excited that I was coming along - it had been a hectic semester and it was the first weekend in a long time that I had come home to visit them. So they dragged me off to the picnic, and the only thing I found weird was that my mom was WANTING me to wear Gold instead of fake jewelry. Oh yeah and my dad was like “you’re looking gorgeous”…which kinda should have tipped me off right there.
shrugs
It wasn’t traumatizing at the time, because I was unaware what the parents were upto. Looks like something my parents had planned with the guy’s parents.
Last I heard recently, his mother has been hounding him to propose to me Desis, I swear.
PCG but what u went thru is pretty okay, being present at the same event..what verizon has listed is a whole diff level.
I endured it once..was told that we were just going to meet some people, old family freinds or what nots and that this was being done very casually and only parents know the deal and they have been asked not to make a big show out of it, we just go meet and come back. but that was not the case..it became a drawing room parade.
I was ambushed, was pissed off about it told my folks that I am never doing anything remotely close to that.
introductions at shaadis and parties was a different thing and it was not bad.
My biggest issue was the expectations of some people who for some odd reason thought that I would marry their daughter, and when that did not happen they were really pissed at my folks. there are actually 2-3 people who are mad about it. dunno whats their deal.
I love this thread. Tell me some stories. I only shared one, I have been rejected, dejected and de-selected on a number of times.
Story Number #2. This family wanted my family to have a marriage between me and their daughter, Well I thought they meant the other daughter (the youngest) so I tld them well while we are on this subject can I skip daughter #2 and go for daughter #3. That family still doesnt talk with us and I still got my ass kicked by my grandmother at age 25.
I have been doing this since I was 23. Lets see how heated this thread gets andI may share a few more stories, I have a total of let me count hang on. 1=Lahore 2=Nowshera 3= Islamabad 4=CA 5= Lahore again. Hmm I think thats it.
