Instead of staying in a hotel, we rented a beautiful 2 bedroom flat and this was the view from the kitchen window…looking out at the Sea of Marmara

Our first night in Istanbul, we arrived around 5 pm, got to our flat by 6:00’ish and then set out to get acclimated. We were in the perfect location, just one block from the tram and one stop away from Sultanahmet square, so we set out to stroll down to see the Blue Mosque at night
Insided the Hagia Sophia..first a Byzantine Church, then a mosque..now a museum. The Virgin Mary holding Prophet Isa (AS) flanked by Allah and Muhammad (SAWS)

Ok, this was one of my favorite places in all of Istanbul…underground Basillica Cistern.

These carp I think they are, swim around in the underground cistern..it just lends to the spooky atmosphere

Switching gears now to Ephesus…this is a one hour flight from Istanbul to Izmir..then a 45 minute drive from Izmir to Selcuk, where Ephesus is located..first stop was the House of The Virgin Mary..this is thought to be the last home and final resting place of Virgin Mary

Entering the House of The Virgin Mary…this is not the original abode, it has been rebuilt, but the foundation/darker stones at the bottom are original

At Ephesus…Built in the 10th century BC by the Greeks…later became the Roman Capitol of Asia Minor in 129 BC, it’s the largest and most well preserved Greco-Roman site to this day.

Ephesus is one of the most sacred sights for Christianity as it is where John preached the Gospel of Christ, but it also has some significance for Islam..it’s thought to be where the Cave of Seven Sleepers, from Surah Kahf is located…and here it is..you can’t go inside, but you can hike up to the entrance of the cave

Love the pics Khatti! I was in Istanbul the other week as well but just passing thru..
Do you know if that’s the mother of the Sultan’s real seat? So amazing to think of her sitting there hundreds of years ago..

I have seen Turkey's picture around the internet but never really had an interest in going there but because of your somehow magical pictures, now I want to visit Turkey!! It looks beautiful.
