Recently, i was pulled into the team leaders office and it was ‘suggested’ to me that as a result of my experience, i should look to apply for a higher position within the department. Later that day, a standard email was sent out informing the rest of similar level colleagues that vacancies were available and to make applications if they felt competent enough. Nothing unusual so far…
I ‘assumed’ that we would have some time to make the application within, and when the email came around i overlooked details. Two days later, i had some time and read the email properly and waddya know…i’d missed the deadline
I sent a meek shodi si email to the team leader and explained how i’d not realised the applications were due so soon, and would it be possible for me hand in mine. She was ok with it and asked me send the application the next day.
All fine so far.
Come interview day, i am interviewed by same team leader and manager. One of the competency based questions being…
‘Have you ever missed a deadline?’
err, only the one to submit the application for the interview :halo:
What would you have done in my situation?
Told the truth
Or
Blagged that you’d never missed a deadline…all the while knowing that team leader KNOWS you have!
"Yes .. I may have missed some deadlines, we all do sometimes, but its best to learn from our mistakes and make sure they don't happen again .. "(and to go on and explain what can be done)

but DD, I think their question was more geared towards meeting work related deadlines.....whearas the deadline you missed was more of a personal thing. Missing this deadline wouldnt have hurt the company in any way.
I feel you would hav been wihtin your right to say, "no, I havent missed work related deadlines. "
as far as personal deadlines are concerned, we miss em all the time, dont we?
lol dd you should have said....oh well apart from missing the deadline for this job application nothing... and turned it into a humour thing play the whole thing down..
