Re: Tribute to Pakistani Drama Writers
Each and every scene of Aangan Tehra which has the most mind boggling repeat value I’ve ever witnessed on TV or film. There was a point in time when I used to watch it everyday and yet look forward to the next viewing. Even all these years later there are a gazillion terms that I use in my everyday conversation that have been borrowed or inspired from Aangan Tehra.
As far as writers are concerned definitely Anwar Maqsood, Kamal Ahmad Rizvi, Dr. Enver Sajjad and Ashfaque Ahmad. These were intellectual giants that had a command not just over language and characterization but had a solid world view in general, and are well versed in many languages and cultures unlike our digest writers of today with their myopic world view, zero knowledge of the world at large delivering sermons and perpetuating stereotypes about “Maghribi muashra” “mashriqi iqdaar” achi aurat/buri aurat etc etc.
somehow yesteryear’s digest writers like Hameed Kashmiri, Zahida Hina and Naheed Sultana Akhtar were at par than today’s digest writer -turned - Drama writers. They were able to convey their message without being too much preachy or borrowing lines from Faza’il e Aimal.
