KHAR, Pakistan (AFP) - Suspected Islamic militants tortured and shot dead a Pakistani paramilitary soldier in the restive tribal belt bordering Afghanistan, officials said Thursday.

The soldier’s body was found dumped near a road in Sheikh Killy, a village in the semi-autonomous tribal region of Bajaur, local military officer Javed Khan said.

“The soldier was abducted late Wednesday and his body bearing signs of torture was found this morning,” Khan told AFP.

He may have been killed on suspicions of spying for the government, he said.

Pro-Taliban militants in the lawless tribal region have killed several people in recent months, accusing them of spying for Pakistani troops or US-led coalition forces across the border.

The United States and Afghan officials have repeatedly claimed the rugged tribal region is used by militants to launch cross-border attacks on international coalition troops deployed in neighbouring Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s new government launched peace talks with the rebels after coming to power in March, saying that the policies of US-backed President Pervez Musharraf were fuelling militancy. (haha, good one, wahabi indoctrination is fueling terrorism, not people trying to fight the menace)

You people's refusal to even acknowledge the terror of the fundos or link these events falsely to MQM somehow is amazing. The madrassah brainwashing has been very effective for you. Crimes are begin committed against Pakistanis everyday, but those who choose to remain silent, do do deliberately.
