^You’re quite right about this. An effect this has on society, that I have noticed, is the change in people’s perceptions regarding age. Back home (and to some extent even among people living abroad), people are considered “old” at a much younger age (late 20s and anything after 30) than in most other places. I think the reason for this is that, given the chaos of the past 30 years, many people who grew up back home faced greater hardships and responsibilities at a younger age than people living elsewhere.
