traditional or religious

if someone were to ask you, if you were religious or traditional.. what would you say?

personally, id never thought about it much before.. for me i thought maybe the two were interlinked.. and maybe they are..

but lets say, someone was talking to u about finding a spouse and they said, they’d want someone more traditional than religioius…would u think there was difference?

Im both.

semi-traditional.

religious? God knows.

hmmmmm
yep, semi

i think im inbetween.. it depends on my mood and what the subject is.. is that wierd?

No they aren't the same. A religious person is much more than a 5 times a day prayer and zakat giver. Unfortunately people KNOW but don't seem to REALIZE that Islam is a complete way of life and to follow Islam is to control your anger, be rational and open-minded, good to others, not a back-stabber or gossiper, treat your wife very well, not lie or cheat, refrain from gluttony and overeating and haste in all things, and follow in the footsteps of the Prophet. If we followed those things, the only question we'd need to ask someone, such as a potential spouse, would be, are you religious?

true, you are bilkul correct, but do you know some one like that?

Maniac I agree.

But lets say the two parties involved are from different cultures? Although the question about religion would be at the top, culture question would also be important in that case.

Dunno..........

^ Maniac.. not to get into a religious discussion but since u brought up the topic abotu being religious is more than just praying 5 times a day (and actually.. i do think thats a beautiful deed in itself), im thinking... if a person was all those things u descrbied, but wasnt able to pray 5 times.. or didnt... what would they say they were?

being a good human is not just to do with religion, its more to do with morals and upbringing.. just my take on it

Not to bring religion into it, but Islam does teach morals and good upbringing. Its a complete way of life.

I second that, I believe its even more important since it forms a human being.
too bad its not visible in many muslim places

I'm sorry sadzzz but I think you are wrong, there's no distinction between being a good Muslim and a good human. A good Muslim has EVERYTHING to do with being a good human. Ibadah to my knowledge and from reading hadith takes forms aside from the physical bowing down to Allah, it is in every good deed we do.

sure Islam teaches u all that, but i think good morals is what each and every religion teaches you.. :k: between ive met many lovely people who dont have a religion… so i dunno

no i agree totally with you. I think im not making my point clear enuff.. what im trying to say is...

a) being a muslim, u practice ur religious obligations but arent necessarily a good human being
b) being a good muslim, is practising ur religion and much more and on top of that are a good person to all people regardless of faith
c) being a good person, without having a religion..

there are at least 3 categories.. wouldnt u agree?

I was just pointing out that my religon has the morals etc.Im sure most others do too.I agree Iv… got many great friends of other faiths and those who seem to have no faith.

But a religion isnt just about those times you want to feel close to God.Its your entire life. From waking up in the morning to going to sleep at night and more.

Culture is more the creative side of our lives.Religion is more of what we live by.At least thats my take on this issue. So if a person was going to ask me this question, I would have to say both.Yes, there isa difference in the two.

^ kewl.. thats all i wanted to know hehe

personally, i think if i wasnt born into the culture that i am in.. i dont know if id be religious either (and yeah.. we all have different views on being religious.. i understand that)

but i do agree with ur explanation MQ :k:

Traditional and religious are completely different to me. Traditional is abiding by the values and norms of your culture, religious is abiding by those of Islam.

islam is much more than jsut reading namazes and doing your farzes, however, there are also morals and ethics and values and manners, most of which unfortunatley aren't taught in an islamic context. As a Muslim child you're mostly taught that if you sniff pepperoni you'll go to hell; saying "please" and "thank you" parents (not just muslim) leave those up to the kids' school to teach them

I'm definitely not traditional and I've got to work a lot on my personality and ibaadah before being labelled as religious.

However, I do hope to become a good practicing Muslim, insha'Allah.

May Allah (SWT) make it easy for us all, ameen.
