Re: Traditional Desi Games ... MalakhRa/Kabbadi
the funny thing is there is a whole kabbadi circuit in UK, universities have teams, there is a league and all.
kababdi was a popular game at cousins get togethers in Pakistan.
u have to keep saying kabbadi, two teams on each side, one person from the team jumps into rival territory, his goal is to touch one of their players and get back to his side, if he does so he scores and the other team loses, the other team is going to try to make sure either u dont touch anyone and/or try to block u from going back.
I love watching the sport, the combo of agility, speed and strength is critical .
Re: Traditional Desi Games ... MalakhRa/Kabbadi
I am guessing the kabbadi team in UK mainly consists of Sikh community?

Re: Traditional Desi Games ... MalakhRa/Kabbadi
Even Kabaddi comes in two flavors. Amar Kabaddi and Gaminee Kabaddi. Gaminee is more traditional, while Amar Kabaddi is fun to play as it involves multiple stoppers and raiders. If a stopper stops the raider from going back to the starting point, his team is awarded one point. On the other hand, if the raider touches a stopper, raider's team scores a point.
The toughest part is to hold your breath saying "kabaddi kabaddi kabaddi..." while touching your opponents - for Amar Kabaddi. If you have speed going against you, you are toasted. Although most times the teams are matched equally.
Western version of Kabaddi is seen in sports like Dodgeball. Although you don't run around trying to touch your opponent but you have a ball that you aim and throw at your opponent. If it touches the opponent, he/she is out. If the ball does not touch, it is a free throw to whomever gets to the ball first. The court is usually divided and lines are drawn as boundaries. For men vs women in dodgeball, sometimes men are forced to throw the ball from their left hand only while women can use either/or. :P
