Well, maybe my post wasn’t all about you (just like Americans are accused of thinking it’s all about them.) Why do Pakistanis support China? Because of their great treatment of their own Muslims? No, because they have a common threat and have aligned strategically. If China took the lead on the world stage as the US has done it would probably be different. It may happen as described above when they need the Arabs’ resources to survive, but for the most part have been isolationist. There is not a richer or more powerful place in the world from a Muslim’s frame of reference - the US has been deomonized as great satan for some now. US represents everthing Muslim fundos do not while they have more in common with China and other lesser powers.
As I have said, I agree that Bush has done things to warrant resentment around the globe. But overall I believe the world is a MUCH better place because of America’s foreign policies - unless you would rather be trying to moderate a forum under Soviet auspices. And I frankly don’t lose any sleep over whether we’re liked or not liked.

america doesnt sell weapons to the Muslims? You’re kidding right? Arab countries are heavily weaponized and have some of the most unnecessary, most costly american made war machinery they can purchase.
see I agree that China should get more flap from Muslims on their repression. my point with raising china as an example was to show that the reasons given here instead of those proferred by the Muslims themselves are invalid. the reasons given here serve to divert from addressing the issues Muslims have, which might be genuine, but get brushed aside because you guys take the easy way out and undermine their causes as jealousy and whatnot.

When we do it, we, of course, always sell them to the wrong Muslims. The wrong Muslims, of course, are those Muslims who are our friends. Sort of a Catch 22, any Muslim who buys our weapons are the wrong Muslims and therefore we create more reasons for Muslims to resent us.

The reason many Muslims resent us is really quite simple. We don’t seek their permission, OK or approval in the pursuit of our foreign policy and we do not support many of the causes they do. The resentment comes in because we are strong and powerful enough where we don’t need their permission or approval and that makes them feel weak and impotent. Why does it have to be more complicated than that. It’s just a lot of salt to the wounds that Americans have a standard of living that far surpasses most of the Muslim world.

Once again, the smug back slapping. What does comparing the US with other countries have to do with its decline? When was I ever refuting that it isn’t leaps and bounds ahead of other nations? It’s evident that it is by far a global super power and will remain so for some time to come.
Those are some optmistic predictions you have put up there. But they remain just that, predictions. There are several gloom and doom predictions to match those as well. Chief economist at Morgan Stanley says the US is heading for an economic Armageddon. Can you deny the bearish market? Speaking of finance, what of the shrinking dollar? The dumping of the dollar by central banks in favor of the euro? The fact that Japan and China have by far the most dollar reserves in the world, doesn’t bode well if they decide to dump even some of their dollar assets. But I am sure you know about the ramifications of that.
Also, the fact that remains that the US continues to maintain poor comparitive advantages to outside importers. And no, blaming the Chinese yuan and tarriffs are not helping.
Foreign invasion success is based of a near invincible military, hardly on any compelling values. Then again, military defeat will never be the reason for the downfall of this country.

So very true MV. To qualify further, I would say that this is the case for any/all foreigners, but maybe a bit more so for the “moderate” muslim. This can be traced back to what they’ve seen as our unwavering support for Israel even while championing ourselves as proponents of justice and freedom in the world. However, the more “Fundo” muslim resents us because they see their way of life (or power) being threatened by western ideals.
But just to re-iterate a point someone else made above. We care enough about what muslims think about us to come to GUPSHUP, but really not that much in the grand scheme of things. Sorry.

The issue is that Muslims blame their ills on US and Israel. Muslims need to change that, take responsibility explain to their masses and move on, engage and integrate themselves into the globalization efforts. If they lack the know how on how to implement proper modern civil societies with human rights etc. they can always outsource that to contractors or consultants.
U.S cant go invading you guys to implement proper governments.
Ask not what US can do for you, but what you can do for yourselves, global economy and of course US.
OR We can wait for a Calipah or a prophet or someone to come flying on a donkey and save the day.

SKhan, It seems that you have very little understanding of global economics or even political economy. Why do you think China and Japan hold US dollars in reserves? Why not the Euro? or the Saudi Dinar?
All the points I listed in my previous post are not a hodgepodge of numbers and stats..they are directly related ot each other.
Your first statement in your post is the most idiotic thing i have ever read regarding global economics. Are you studying with Abdali?

Anti-Americanism is a phenomena which is present all over the globe not just in the muslims lands. The reasons are many the way it supports Israel even when the UN produces resolutions against it and even the whole world knows about Israel's crimes. The way it ignores the UN and goes to war. The refusal of signing the Kyoto protocol, the way it interferes in the politics of other countries, the way it takes allies and then dumps them when there's no use for them and basically it expects the whole world to be running in its favour.
Someone made a comment about GDP whenever there is a hurricane in American the GDP goes up so that isn't really a valid measure.
I think anti-Americanism in the Muslim world began after the creation of the state of Israel. Anti-Americanism was actually spread by America in the middle east. American puppets in the middle east were always kept in power through their anti-American chanting. Ayatollah Khomeini used to shout 'Death to America' and at the same he was selling oil to america. Gamal Abdel Nasser was another American agent who used to chant anti-American slogans yet he was secretly working them.
So Americans have no one other than themselves for the Anti-American feeling in the world and unlike what they would like to believe the whole world doesn't revolve around them and the obligation for Muslims to rule by Islam drives the cause for unity under the Khilafah state.
From the anti-Khilafah comments above I think we're doing our job because they are beginning to realise it is a reality and not a dream. Let us worry about how we run the state. If you really believe we cannot run it efficiently then you have nothing to worry about it won't last long then. Reality is you do know that we can do the job properly and that is what scares you.

^ You make it sound like America will lose something great if the muslim world is not mollycoddled. It is actually the opposite. Muslims need to molly coddle america. The reality is that muslims(mostly arabs) are insignificant in the long term scheme of things as far as human development and growth goes. Far greater things are going to come out of Asia and the west than the middle east and central asia. Ever wonder why Chinese muslims are not named abdullah...because they are chinese first, religion is mostly in their pants and they believe that their hopes for the future lies in a capitalistic china which is slowly but surely becoming more an dmore democratic.
