I agree. An average American doesn’t think that way about Muslims or believes in those rumors. That’s why I clearly wrote redneck America in my title. I thought that it was already obvious that I am not generalizing this about all Americans. But you can’t deny this fact that there are people out there who believe in such ridiculous rumors. I live in South so I know and see those people everyday. Just listen to the callers on right wing AM radio talk shows. You will find out what I am talking about.

the idea that muslims hate america because they're rich is insupportable because some of the more violent of those haters have been from extremely affluent backgrounds themselves.
1.2 billion people over scores of countries dont have similar affluence profiles, and if we pakistanis resented richness we would hate the arabs or if we resented power we would hate the prime power in our region, China.

American’s clearly don’t like Iran rocking the boat in the Middle East, especially in regards to Israel. They’re free to consider it a misuse of power if they want, but the fact is that many Iranian’s prefer not to wait and see the likes of Israel and America attack them, and that is why they will sort it out themselves.
I hope you American’s don’t mind others taking pre-emptive action as well, if they feel it is in their national interests? Who cares if you do, huh?

Japan, Germany, Canada, Scandinavia, Switzerland and many others are super rich countries compared to most Muslim states, and the third world. Yet one hardly sees any resentment against them.

Part of the hate for America comes from those Islamic teachers who believe that the west is both physically and culturally invading Islam and fears that Islam will be overrun by western ways. The western influence within the Islamic world is seen by Islamic fundamentalists as the major component by non-believers in its "war against Islam".
And while fundamentalists preach this as a reason to oppose, hate, and even fight against America the message trickles down, be it a water down form, to some mainstream teachers and into the populous.
In general this is why the fundamentalists fear democracy, it's physical and culture mixing that it's freedoms bring is seen as a threat and in order to stop it a great divide must be created (claim the west is waging war against Islam) and then must be perpetuated by war.

A great deal of non-Muslims in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe can't stand the US as well. Does that have to do with whatever religious preachers they have?

In HS the plain girls didn't hate the girls who almost made the cheeleader squad, they hated the cheeleaders. Similarly Sweden doesn't represent the power, wealth and influence of the west. Nor does Sweden or any wealthy or powerful country have the sphere of influence - militarily, economicially, politically, culturally or socially - that the world's lone superpower does. There is a lot more to dislike in a country that is active around the world trying to influence world order than those who stay home and don't meddle.

Considering the resentment continues to grow, it would be a start to look around and try to reduce the feelings whereever possible. Only then can you distinguish the genuine from the irrational. an untill then, the ‘war on terror’ will remain a lost cause.

No, Mr. Fraudia. The cheerleader squad (8 skinny blond bimbos) was the superpower. The geopolitical comparison is the US. Since USSR went down, it is a squad of one.
Ma Mooli, obviously it is foreign policy that is in question since that is what effects other countries. It can be better, but unless US becomes isolationist (which would be an overall negative for most other countries), there will never be agreement and total acceptance of it by others (or even by a lot of Americans). With all the blips along the way, there has not been this universal disapproval until Bush.

Today I am operating out of an undisclosed location so didnt have time to read all the posts /replies. But AS most Red-Neck Americans actually like Muslims, because red-necks dont like the American government to begin with. If they had it their way they would be driving cars without license plates becasue they think like muslims (like well we didnt have license plate for our camel/donkey/horse) so why should we now.
