OK, following on from Showkat’s post about excuses by women who don’t wear the Hijab here is a list of top ten reasons why Muslim men don’t keep beards.
Not judging anyone, just posting for info, tell me what I’ve missed.
IN ORDER:
Still finding the right style - There are so many different types of beards, and I’m still looking for the one that will depict my personality and my love for the deen the best.
I’m too young - Beards are for old fogies. I’m young and want to enjoy my time. I’ll keep a beard when i’m slightly older.
It doesn’t suit me. - I have a round face and if I keep a beard it will make me look like a clown
Takes too much time to maintain a beard - Shaving only takes 10 seconds. swish, swosh, wash. Beards take too much time to maintain, trim here, trim there, make sure it doesn’t grow up to my eyes, and then comb it all the time
People with beards are backwards - Muslims who keep beards burp during prayer, do this, do that. In general they have attrocious manners and I don’t want to be associated with them in anyway
Its not Fardh to keep a beard - Its Wajib/Sunnah/Nafl (delete as appropriate to your madhab) not Fardh. So basically there is choice and I choose not to keep a beard. Period
My wife/fiancee doesn’t like it - She just doesn’t like it. Women!! Can’t live with them, can’t live without them
Judge not by appearance - Keeping a beard doesn’t make me a good Muslim. Iman is in the heart and I don’t need to prove my Iman to anyone. I’m improving my inner self first.
Now is not the right time - I’m waiting to get a promotion. I’m waiting for a job interview. I have to meet a few very important clients. Basically delaying till you have gone past a career milestone.
People will mistake me for a terrorist - The idea here being that the brother will get stick for keeping a beard because people will identify him as someone who supports terrorism. If the brother didn’t keep a beard pre 9/11 and keeps one now people will think that he has been spending too much time with radical Muslims.
Re: Top 10 reasons why Muslim men dont keep beards
You forgot 1 more reason.
I cannot keep beard (not that I want to) even if I want because I work in oil industry and for safety reasons due to presence of Hydogen Sulphide gas which is highly toxic, I may have to wear a breathing apparatus (the mask and the cylinders thing) for escape purpose.
Re: Top 10 reasons why Muslim men dont keep beards
i think its nice when guys have beards, personally i find guys with beards more attractive. and like Decent said insha allah brothers will start to get to courage to follow sunnah.
Re: Top 10 reasons why Muslim men dont keep beards
hey i keep a beard, its very very very short, some ppl call it a five o clock shadow, but it is a beard in my book I let it grow for 23 hours and 55 minutes each day. on weekends it gets even longer.

You know, I have to add something. Why don't you guys wear that topi thing that you wear for namaz? I thought that is sunnah also? In fact, some people I've heard say its the equivalent of female hijab, and men really SHOULD do it.
So, like seriously, what's holding you back? Jews wear the yamakha when they're orthodox. What's wrong with you orthodox muslim men?

Who told you wearing a topi for namaaz is sunnah? The Prophet never wore a topi. It was an imamah, and he wore it all the time, not just for namaaz. And its sunnah cause there is no set commandment for it either in the Quran or in the Hadith, unlike the Hijab for which there is...hence Hijab is fardh and the Imamah is sunnah.
Re: Top 10 reasons why Muslim men dont keep beards
^^ well it comes from tradition and the fact that Prophet SAW is known through authentic ahadeeth to have his head covered most of the time.
And also if you read Seerah (character) of the prophet SAW he is known to have worn a kufi or topi. But it is not mandatory for Salah.
I asked a Shaikh (Shaiky Muhammad Adly - living in South Carolina - Columbia) who said it was not mandatory to wear it , as to why he himslef wears it...
and he said, it is because it humbles me and people today expect an Imam or shaikh to be wearing one...
He said that there was no evidence in the Sunnah that suggested covering the head when eating or going to the bathroom as being a required ettiquette, like some people believe....
