Sometimes people go through grad school etc for self fulfillment..some folks do it it because they just enjoy studying and some do it to secure a good job, and some for all those reasons combined. But then at some point you may have prioritize a new life event such as a child, health, etc etc..and a seemingly good career may not work out anymore. That doesn't mean the degrees are going to waste... There are many intangibles one gains...and one could always go back to pursue a career after a break.
