Re: Titles of Rulers
Khan, is a generic Altaic title for chief.
Kha-Khan is Khan of Khans or the great Khan.
Later Khan was accepted term for commanding officers who were ussually but not always of royal blood. Turks, Mongols and Tartars were a perfect Meritocracy. A Khan was equivalent to modern Field Marshal and commanded a Touman or 10,000 troops. At the time this was the highest level division in Mongol and Turkic armies.

Is it Khaqaan a variation of Kha-Khan? What about Khan e KhanaN?
Re: Titles of Rulers
KhaKhaan Kagaan Khaqaan... they are all the same.
Khan e khanan and Mugal e azam also amount to the same title. Except in Persian.

Is Mughl e Azam a general title? I thought it was used on for Akbar.
Re: Titles of Rulers
Well its Persian for Great Mongol or Mugal.
I think it was first applied to Genghis or Hulegu and then down the years to various others... Akbar just got the title later... I dont think he was the greatest... maybe in India but compared to his Western and Northern Cousins he was a small fish.

But who were famous cousins of Akbar, who got so much fame as Akbar got.
There were also local titles like Maha Bali that were attributed to Akbar and other Mughal rulers. They also loved to hear 'Zill e Ilahi', 'Jahan Panah' before their names.
