Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

I’m planning to have a nurse for my kids from Pakistan, most likely a christian,I want her to be able to communicate in English and Urdu besides…

What qualities should you look for in a nurse/nanny?

You know her age, look, skills etc.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

Also is it possible to have a professional nurse/nanny in Pakistan?

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

Alot of doctors in the US have nannies from Pakistan, who came through some UN program. I know a doctor, dads friend's family who had one. She was even teaching the kids recitation of the Quran, because they lived in WV and the mosques were kinda far. She was in her 60s I think, and hailed from Faisalabad.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

^someone at the age of 60.....will she be able to handle 3 boys under the age of 5 and also with the house chores like cooking and cleaning?

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

I'd think that age 60 is reaching a bit in this case! But you dont want to hire one too young either...I've never used a nanny but some of my son's friends at school do. The younger ones can be a bit immature and allow the kids to do things that they know the parents disapprove of - I've seen this with one particular nanny of one of my son's friends. I think you can judge pretty well ie., look for one who has the energy and ability but also the maturity to follow your rules and your moral structure.

And invest in a nanny cam!!!!!!!!

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

lolz at nanny cam.

May be someone in her mid 30's?

Please tell me how does au pair thing work, and what's easier, to call a nanny from a country or to work on this au pair thing?

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

ps...I dont understand why you would seek a christian nanny in particular? Wouldnt a Muslim nanny understand better the things that you allow and do not allow and the underlying reasons for it?

I dont know how far you are in your search but there are international Nanny agencies that have really good family-to-nanny matching skills. I can ask the moms I know who use them if you'd like.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

I think nanny and au-pair are pretty much the same thing. Au-pair is "extra hands" so their responsibilities include light house work in addition to child care. Nanny is more exclusively just child care. When you hire internationally, you provide housing for the person you hire so the salary is lower than it would be to have someone come to your house and then go home each day. But even live-ins have set and scheduled hours for work and time off. Depending on the agency, you may also be responsible to pay vacation time, sick time, one trip to their home etc. but each contract is different and negotiable.

I would think anywhere from late 20s to mid-30s would be a good target age to try for. There can be exceptions, I've met some gals who are mature at age 18 and some who are still immature at age 40 lol so maybe set a target age but be flexible yeah?

AND

invest in a nanny cam!!!!

She can also be Jewish, I think I treat non muslims with more formality and more tolerance.

You sound quite serious about the cam.
Do you have any idea about the salar of a nanny, how much can it be?

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

acha, lol!! I see! Thats funny! But when it comes to hiring someone to be a nanny for your kids and a light housekeeper for your home, formality and tolerance aren't neccesary yeah? I mean, respect for your employee is a given but no need to get all formal with them and tolerance....well thats kind of questionable too. I mean, you dont want to be tolerant when the christian nanny introduces hot dogs with bacon to your kids kwim? (thats an exaggeration of course lol...but you get the idea)

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

A doc I know had a nanny for his kids. She was a widowed lady living with her kids in another state...from pakistan, muslim, just like the docs family. I think they got her via word of mouth. She was great because she didn't have any liabilities. Her salary was $1500 a month...she would watch the 2 boys, prepare meals and do little bit around the house. The doc also sent her to her children in the other state once a year for a month. he also took care of her medical expenses. She was very happy and so were they. Eventually, they moved back to Pakistan so auntyji went back to her kids.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

The one lady I know who told me about her international nanny had a one-year contract which came to about 20,000 US. On top of that, she had to provide a private bedroom for the nanny and a one-week paid vacation and round-trip airfare for her visit home. The working hours were flexible but could be no more than 40 work hours weekly. There are 3 or 4 others who have live-ins but I've not spoken with them about the whole thing. But I can if you'd like more info.

And yes I'm really serious about the nanny cam!! You can never be sure about what goes on behind your back yeah? And there were a couple of horror stories in the US in the past few years. Sure it was only a couple of them - shaken baby syndrome and abusive nanny. So one or two bad stories and thousands of nannies...but still, there can be small issues like nanny allowing things that parents would never allow which I really think happens frequently. So its a really good idea IMHO.

Yep, thats what that amma jee I was talking about made too, back in 1995.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

yes, it was around that time Spockie!

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

hareem, that woman even in her late 50s or 60s could do seriously more work than any of us, not kidding!

hmmm the most important question you should ask is, Can you bring a nanny from a non-EU state to UK? and what are the legal requirments? :chai:

Someone much older than your husband. :aq: Islam allows 4 marriage and brother psyah is still young.
just kidding.

Calling a nanny from Pakistan may be difficult as you will need to organise visas etc. And they may run away once they get here.

My aunt and uncle registered to an agency where they were able to advertise that they wanted a nanny and the applicants were then interviewed by them until 1 was selected.

Mirch I had a very attractive young college student Irani Nanny for my daughter.

I liked her because she was 1. muslim 2. Young so she would play with my daughter and had so much energy 3. had her own transportation

All my friends and esp the aunties were flipping out! My own mother was like - are you sure about this? I don’t think like that I guess.
