When you use an international agency, you do not have to worry about arranging visas or anything else really - they take care of all of these things for you. You pay them a fee - how much of a fee I really dont know - but seems to me it would be worth it since they also do all of the screening for the types of things njgal mentioned.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

Hareem what's the philosophy behind Christan nanny !

^ I wondered the same thing and this is the reply

Which is a very nice thing :) but still...its not a guest you're looking to to take into your home, its an employee. So while I dont want to speak for her, I think its become a less important point when all else is considered.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

Make sure after you start leaving kids with her alone, You watch kids closely.

If she is tough on kids when you are not around your kids will act different.

One of my Ex -Boss brought nany from philipine.
She said he drove but she didn't.
After getting here first weekend she wanted to go see her BF downTown.
Few month she was expecting.

Kids start acting strange too, they started hugging parents lot more.

They got rid of her in few months.

rotfl!!

If I ever hired a live-in, my first requirements would be hairy facial warts and/or 20-plus pounds overweight. An overly large nose (with nose-hair) and bad hair on head would be a plus.

when was it Uzzybuzzy?if you dun mind asking.

Hareem, in past 3 years government introduced many border control laws, and NOW it is very difficult to hire any UNSKILLED person from a non-EU state. Nannies dun fall in any of new catagories. Even the ethnic food chefs are history. Besides who would pay nannies 40K+ to "adjust" them in teir 1 category.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

Thanks everyone for advice....seriously, I never thought of all these points that you guys have made.

I think I'm doing fine without the nurse.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

Xeno, I think the int'l nanny agencies are still able to function really well even with these new laws...ie., the nannies are college students majoring in early education or child psychology yeah? Its not like they go to remote villages and hire just anyone...so prospective clients (parents) actually are hiring "skilled" labor, kwim? It seems that way in the US anyway, perhaps its differnt in UK

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

lol Hareem, yes you ARE!! I was actually surprised to see you looking for a nanny! But maybe just some outside part-time help for around-the-house chores would be better. For SURE, thats something I'd love to have!! But having a live-in...its not something that I think I'd be comfortable with. Some to come in, clean my house and then go home...well thats something I could handle easily lol!

it is same in UK as any other country where it is taken as a PROFESSION and have established institutions to train nanies. Here, we are talking about Pakistan, I never came across any institution in Pakistan, where they train nanies in a professional environment and offer degrees in the field. I hope that clears the confusion.
as for the international agencies, yes they do operate, but they only promote candidates with required qualifications.

I don't think Pakistani Christians eat pork but that's besides the point, when i was looking for hiring a nanny from pakistan majority of women for some reason christians.

Yeah it's also about the privacy. My hubby suggested the idea of hiring someone for only few hours a week but when I found out the prices I thought it's not worth it.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

Yes its costly to have someone come in hourly for sure....but maybe a live-in to do all the things that you dont like to do? Heck, if me and hubby could afford it...and if it were offered to me, I'd be doing the hula-hula dance lol!! I'd have the person wash walls. vacuum and dust. scrub out the baths, the oven. Do some cooking of the menus that I put together. Send them marketing (which I dread lol) I'd have so much more time with the boys...

dont give up on the whole thing...look into all of the different options and costs yeah? It could make your life that much easier/nicer yeah? If its affordable to you, why not!

Mama - that’s funny - I thought if she can’t take care of herself - how is she going to take care of my child.

I also thought the warts would be contagious and my child would get them too

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

hmmmm yes perhaps you are right njgal :( but then again, it doesnt need to be a nanny with perfect proportions, clear and lovely skin, high cheekbones yadayada. Those things are definitely drawbacks.

Re: Tips on looking for a nanny/nurse????

you are entering a danerous territory, i have had nannies since 4 years and still do, i cn tell you that you never know how it will turn out for you

In the past 2 to 3 years they have had 3 live in nannies. First one, from Philippines, they kept for over a year but then she went back to the Philippines due to family problems. Next was from Turkey, however she did not last too long as she kept lying to my Aunt and Uncle and you need someone trustworthy to look after you children. Latest one is from India and has been with them since the summer. All three were from the same agency. Also all three were Muslims.
