Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

Our Mullahs should not be allowed to wreck our schedules. These MAToos will never be able to figure out basic things such as the lunar calendar. Ramzan is just around the corner. Just see what Mullahtic Wa-hayati will be comitted regarding moon sighting. Heck these beardos still want to live in time 1000 years ago.

Time to have a fixed lunar calendar based on scientific knowledge of planetary movement.

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

Then you observe Ramadan when you want to...Muslims go by the moon...Not a calendar..

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

the starting of ramadhan (and the end as well) r based on sighting of the moon and not calculations....

when will u learn the basics of Islam????

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

No wonder Muslims in general are lagging behind in science and maths.

O baboo! Man is now able to send missions to the far reaches of solar system and you guys are still locked into denial and uncertainty by refusing to use a pre-planned calendar?

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

^^

Well...No one is stopping you...Go to the farthest reaches...

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

^^ Sure to chase MAToos out of their lowlife existance.

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

Prophet:saw: said:

**“Keep fast after seeing it (moon) and give up fasting after seeing it (moon).” **

Now if, someone wanna disobey prophet:saw: go ahead. Good Luck.

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

^^ Yeah! so?
There were no watches back then and no concept of standardized calendar. Few days here and few days there really didn't matter.

Keeping time has drastically changed in the last 1400 years. Insisting on living a life in that period will keep the fundoos backwards and out of touch.

Quit dragging our messenger pbuh in this MATooish debate. We also use watches for daily prayers. Are you going to isist on looking at the sun for every prayer? alarm clocks my man, alarm clocks now rule the world and the timing of prayers. Wake and smell Chai.

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

What if kuffar country has a Muslim astronaut to land on the moon, how does he know to fast?

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

a very ridiculous argument to say the least.

The times are pre-calculated for timings in solar year essentially remain the same so for every place the timings are caculated.

We can use astronomy for the “royat” of moon but insisting that just caculate it for the whole year and follow it without seeing the moon, is out of Islam and not to mention mod-muslims are quite welcome to do that

  1. The duration of the lunar month is 29 days 12 hours 44 minutes and 03 seconds.

  2. The lunar year consists of 354 or 355 days.

  3. However it is not possible to definitely assign the number of days for every lunar year since as per the above calculation 12 months would have 354 days 08 hours 48 minutes and 36 seconds.

  4. The period of the waning of the moon is sometimes short and sometimes quite long. Hence there is need to fix this period of waning of the moon so that the new moon can be predicted accurately

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

^^ you are countering your own argument by mentioning lunar month down to seconds.

This data was not available back in the days of Messenger pbuh. Now that we have the data, we can use it to make a predictable calendar.

p.s. your argument about solar year is wrong as well. Every fourth solar year is adjusted by a day (FYI leap year).

Off course this dicussion is only for those who want to look forward and live according to scientific knowledge. Hashishins don't need to apply.

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

Let me bold the part that you intentionally missed:

We can use astronomy for the “royat” of moon but insisting that just caculate it for the whole year and follow it without seeing the moon, is out of Islam and not to mention mod-muslims are quite welcome to do that

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

once during the prophet (saw)'s time, a man asked the Prophet (saw) if he cud climb the mountain to help him seeing the moon....
the Prophet (saw) denied it and said, see it from where u r standing, and if u see it, fast and if u dont, let 30 days of shabaan be completed....
an extra effort in digging out the moon is not called for....

seminole: for a mulim on the moon, he will be seen as a traveller who can go without fasting until he reaches back home, and he can make up for the missed fasts after the Ramadhan is over....

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

And in the future when man lives on other planets, then what? If mankind lasts long enough there will be people living somewhere else besides this planet. Or are there already fatwas or hadith that will prohibit Muslims from doing that?

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

On the last friday sermon, the visiting maulvi gave us a lecture on this exact thing. he said astronomy should be used to setup conditions.

Ex. He said, that this year, it is physically (according to science) not possible to see the moon before the 4th. So most likely, ramazan will start on the 5th.

Also, Arizona and Texas are in a better position to sight the moon, due to geographics, various weather conditions, etc (talking about moon sighting in the US/Canada)

He said, using this as a guide for visual sighting, we can be sure the the moon is sighted properly, and not by some jahil on the wrong day.

So, Astronomy and Religion can go both hand in hand. Muslims have used astronomy for religion before. I read about a mosque (early 10th century) that was rebuilt quiet a few times at the same spot, because they could align it with ther Kaaba better. Each new build was better by a few degrees, till they got it right. Now, if you don't use the sciences, how do you know where to pray.

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

scholars would have to figure out a solution for that, kinda like the people who live in places where its six months day light and six months night time cant really fast based on sunrise and sunset there so they use other timings.

for people living on other planets, its not just the lunar calendar that will have an impac but also the solar calendar so I suppose everyone will have to figure out something.

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

whoever made this thread sticky, besides the importance of this thread, I want to know if the person read the following words in the original post and if he/she did, can you kindly translate these to me and let me know what tone’s being used while uttering such words. I will appreciate for the knowledge I may gain from the reply of my query..

Thanks in anticipation:flower1:

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

Anti- is just too emotional. He uses words like this thinking it may put weight in his arguments.

Anyway, A balance in science and religeon is called for. If clouds are there then moon cannot be seen.

I am not aware of the hadeeth quoted earler abot the prophet (PBUH) refrain someone from climbing on the hill. But I think even a hill might not have helped that person if it was cloudy or whatever.

All reasonable efforts must be made to see moon...if not then scientific logic can be used.
I have seen first Shawwal moon big as second day just because it was not clearly seen the actual first day.
These days pollution makes things harder as well.

people were able to see moon lot clearly from their houses 30-40 years ago. Surely 1400 years ago. But not these days without some help with weather etc.

A telescope seems fine as well as it only brings and magnifies what is already there.

Going by a calender made on monthly basis also seems OK. It avoids people not be able to take off days for EID etc.
Some Ijtehaad is warrented.
As long as the good spirit is there, one doesn't have to be so strict.

P.S. Seminole points are only valid when his conditions are met. Not likely in his of our lifetime. So why worry now and be excited. Fasting/EID etc. can be done based on closest city/country/part of the world closer to moon at a particular time starting from man's departure to moon. Perhapse just go by Mecca/S. Arabia time then.
Can science tell the man on moon which part of world is closer to where the man is?

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

Anwaar,

Words of the wise and enlightened and pride of the Muslims…:k:

That is the ‘modern’ Muslim…

Re: Time to fix the lunar calendar: Ramzan is just around the corner

^^ Don't get side tracked baboo! or is it baboon?

We need to fix the lunar calendar. As of now it creates too much chaos and very high degree of uncertanity. Modern society lives by the schedules. Anyone playing with scheduling fundamentals such as the calendar is a simpleton (at best) or crazy fundoo at its worst.
