Mr. Vs Maulana

People opposing the word Maulana are the victim of a recent “Fitna” in Pakistan. The word is in use from last 300 years and was never questioned by any and now some college graduates started showing their knowledge of arabic language and Islam by questioning everything.

the ‘recent fitnah’ is not people questioning the use of ths word. the’recent fitna’ is 300 years old as you say when people started using that word.

How many Maulanas were present during khulfa e rashideen’s era? how many maulanas were there at karbala?

An effort to degrade Ulema in sub continent is not a new one. It started during British Raj. One example is the use of turban. Gora people knew that all Ulema wear tutban. Just to bring their significance down in the front of public, they ordered all the Waiters in big hotels and in railway dining cars, all chowkidars in govt. buildings to start wearing them.

so youa re telling me that aside from ‘ulema’ no one else wore a turban in that era?

I am not pro-taliban or Jamaati or JUI supporter and one can have political views against them. But when people bring Wafaq and qualified mufti’s in conversation without even knowing about them, that bothers me.

no issue with a mufti being called a mufti if he has completed the required training. No issues with other titles of respect liek sheikh or imam.

If me calling them maulana and you calling them Mr. is going to help according to standards set by Shariah then it should be OK for you to call them Mr.

I am not going to call anyone my lord. only Allah is my lord. so i can address them by other titles of respect as long as they have earned teh right to use them, imam, mufti, sheikh .. but not maulana. Not now, not in the future.
