We should not drop him at present but we should start grooming another keeper. We should take two keepers on next couple of tours instead of some poor bowlers like Sami.
Well said and totally agree with everything above.
However the joker selectors always think about something else.
We shud just hav a backup, rite now they r saying that no matter how bad you keep we will stick with you...if we had a backup maybe he'll work harder and get better.
Not really. If anything, it'll make him worse since he would be all tensed up with the thought of being potentially replaced if he misses the next catching/stumping oppurtunity.
i'll admit that kamran akmal has dropped some crucial catches on this tour, but when he makes a mistake, you can tell that he is genuinely angry about his mistakes more than anyone else on the team.
he really has the motivation and strive to be a reliable and incredible wicket keeper.
the dude just turned 24 this year. give him some time to develop himself... he's shown too many glimpses of reliable talent to be shafted like this.
I'm saying that there is no need to threaten him with a backup keeper when in reality there is no one playing so good that their performance is begging for international exposure. His past credentials hold some merit and just the prospect of him repeating his performances from last year is more valuable than a sub-par keeper brought up from domestic cricket.
The reason why Australia has been so good for so many years is because they have a core nucleus. They don’t drop people after one or two or three bad series.
I think we should believe in Akmal’s talent and stick with him. He’ll turn out a better player from this. Lets not forget that this is his first tour of England and he’s still fairly young.
Our future depends on players like Akmal, Asif, Afridi (he’s only 26), Malik, and Gul (amongst others). Lets give them all the confidence we can.
Australia is good because they have good backup so far, but now even australian started realizing the fact that they are lacking a proper backup for their fast bowlers, and that is why they called back their bowling coach from England last year and now talking about hiring Waqar in NSW.
If PAK don’t work on a backup keeper at this stage then they may suffer IF Akmal got injuired. Younis and Faisal could keep wickets but only if during a match regular keeper got injuired, otherwise keeping Shoaib and Kaneria without a specialized keeper will be rediculous.
So, it is very important that Pakistan should start grooming a backup keeper sooner than later.

I have no problems with grooming a backup to Akmal; but I don't think we need a replacement for Kamran. He's had a bad series, no doubt, but he has talent! We should stick with him; I'm all for keeping a specialized backup.
the shoaib chance did not carry....
it fell well short of akmal so u cant blame akmal for it....
and the missed stumping chance wud never have been there....
read quickly had his foot back in the crease once he saw the ball going wide....
he has had one bad series and u think we shud drop him????
No there was a straight chance that even though umpire ruled a bye, everybody all the way in Pakistan heard the nick, even the commentators said it was a catch...
Had all the Akmal supporters buried their heads in the sand in the test series...he dropped so many catches and stumpings that you would have to be a "moron" of the highest order or your livelyhood directly dependant on Akmal to still support him..
In fact just look at his whole careers, he has a knack of dropping so many easy catches and stumpings that it not even funny....In the sri lankan series he in the test, he had gave at least 5 chances...and the england series in pakistan he also had a few screw ups and if go back even further and do a systematic analysis, you will see he has been consistently screwing up...the only saving grace for him was his batting, but even that has now deteriorated...
Lets bring in some competition, if not completely drop him...
Mr Che, When Akmal toured aus last year, Ian Chappel and Bill Lawrie dubbed him as one of the best wicketkeepers in the world if not THE best. So obviuosly there isnt any shortage of talent. But I wont deny he has had problems with his concentration in this series. What he needs is a short stint with either Wasim Bari himself or Rashid Latif and he will be alright.
Zulqarnan is too raw to compete with Kamran. Kamran's best competition wicketkeeping wise is his own brother Adnan who is an exceptional keeper. When Moin was dropped, Bob wanted Adnan in place of Kamran but selectors sent Kamran and he took his chance well. Adnan needs to work on his batting to gain recognition and compete with his brother

Ian Chappel Chian Chappel, all these commentators have an uncanny and inherent ability to hype things up...remember Azhar Mehmood's first few tests, against a very good South African attack...those three centuries in first four tests and an average above 100, he was being hailed as the best thing since slice bread, what happened to him???
Akmal's keeping was always average, his century against west indies (probably the weakest team in the world at that time) in the tri series made everybody take notice and then he had the match saving century against India and then two at home against india and england...all these scores amplified his ability as a player, unfortunately what it also did was mask his keeping prowess, or lack thereof, which was medicore at best...he has averaged at least 6 to 7 major screw ups in every series he has played since his debut...
Furthermore, now that he is not batting in the fimiliar flat tracks of the subcontinet and overal has been found out, I doubt he'd be able to score any meaningful runs beyond the subcontinent...hence what he has done with the bat is that he's already hit his peak...he won't score centuries again as frequently as he did last year...and the less said about his glovework the better....
The only thing keeping the likes of Zulqarnian and other keepers from breaking into the team, is their extra circular activities, which are not to Inzi's liking and not compatible with the new religious atmosphere...And if these rumor have any basis...then I guess I wouldn't mind Akmal staying, we will just have to play with a liability...
