In the ongoing 2nd ODI, Akmal dropped a regulation catch off Shoaib and then missed a stumping chance off Afridi, which really ticked Afridi off, he also missed a regulation stumping in the first ODI…
In this tour he has probably dropped as many catches and missed as my stumps as all the keepers that have played for Pakistan before him in their careers combined…
Plus he has only managed one score of over 50…he is woefully out of form both with the bat and particularly so with the glove…
It is alright and hopefully he learned from committing that mistake. Nothing bothers us as long as we win the match. Seriously, we have not won the match yet since the tour of England.
I will personally cut that persons throat who ever sugest or even think about droping Akmal. You must be a moron to even think about that. Go out and play with kids don't waste your time here.
Before the fourth test, I suggested same thing since I didn't knew Zulqarnain is not with team in england. I think people like Teaser are either very emotionals or have no cricketing mind. There is nothing wrong in resting a player when things are not going well for him.
Everyone knew his strengths, contribution and dedication to the game, but we have to remember that we must have a backup for him for two reasons:
1. If he gets injuired, we should have somewhat experienced backup keeper.
2. We shouldn't wait till the last minutes of his retirement before we start grooming a replacement.
Look at any team, and you will see that they have two pretty competative keepers in ranks, e.g.
Australia: (Gilchrist & Haddin)
England: (Read & Jones)
Sri Lanka: (Sangakara & Jaywardennay)
India: (Dhoni & Patel)
Pakistan: (Latif & Moeen at peak)
WI: (ramdin & Jacobe)
Therefore, I still beleive it would have been better if Pakistan was resting Akmal and giving chance to Z. Haider from 4th test onward during these series.
Funny the same creed of people who regularly criticize Woolmer, Inzi and PCB for their 'chopping and changing' are the ones who demand heads after a few failures.
Yeah, let's drop Akmal, and get who in his place? Somebody new from the domestic circuit whose batting if not both batting and keeping we'll need to work on. If we are going to do that, and Kamran Akmal isn't an OLD guy, why not do that work on Akmal instead. We have seen what he's capable of in the past year, surely we should have the patience to work out his problems and make use of his talent.
Pardon for the personal comment here, but you are a sad and bitter man CheGuvera. You really are.
And the last hting Akmal needs is 'excessive coaching." He's not dropping chances because of problems with his technique, rather it's due to lack of confidence. Too much training and coaching at this point, which will try to unsettle his 'natural ways' will disrupt him more than help him.
God...give the guy a break hes had one bad series...Gilchrist, Sangakkara all have had poor series...Gilchrist is in the side for his batting and i remember him having such a dry spell where he scored no runs...but the board stuck with him...
Remember form is temporary...class is permanent...and Akmal is a class keeper...he'll bounce back after this series...
If they drop Akmal who will they replace him with? For ODI in this series Younis Khan possibly and I am not sure how effective he will be as he is not a natural wicket keeper.
I am not entirely sure who else could replace him. Zulqarnain Haider has been mentioned - but not really sure how good he really is. Certainly, there should be a deputy or a second wicket keeper so that at least the first choice wicket keeper realises that if he doesn't perform to the expected level than his place in danger.
However, one guy who could possibly challenge him in the future and depending upon his form and performance is the captain of the under 19 World Cup team - Lateef (can't remember his first name). From what I saw of him he definetely had good wicket keeping skills and had aggresive style.
His younger brother Adnan Akmal is also a very good Wicket Keeper, currently playing domestic cricket, but he,s not too great with the bat as yet,but i think kamran akmal deserves atleast 1 more series before ppl even start to even thinking about replacing him, after all he has just scored 7 international 100s in last 18 months,no other past Pakistani Wicket keeper could do that in whole career, let alone in just one year.
Akmal needs to be dropped, period. If anyone disagrees thats their opinon, reacting with irrational emotions deomnstrates desperation and nothing else.
It was Akmal who missed Peterson in the fourth test match when he was only 5 (five) had he taken that regulation catch Pakistan wud have walked their way through, sadly that was not to be. Akmal has dropped catches, missed stumpings and made the entire team pay by loss of the test series.
Who will replace him? Akmal replaced Moin/Lateef, what makes ppl think we cannot find a replacement for duntoo? Growup guys, treat everyone with the same standard, performance sud be the only criteria of selection/deletion, Akmal has proven beyond a doubt that he probably is the worst wk Pakistan has ever had. DROP AKMAL DROP AKMAL.....
Drop your best keeper after one bad series? Are you kidding me. He is having a bad series but look at what he has done prior to this series, his batting and keeping. So relax. Its people like you in PCB who are ruining many careers.
I like Akmal a lot, he is hard worker and i think he'll bounce back, but this series has exposed his deficiencies. He has got to learn. Keeping in Pak and in UK/Aus is different.
We should not drop him at present but we should start grooming another keeper. We should take two keepers on next couple of tours instead of some poor bowlers like Sami.
