Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

Has anyone seen the Time Magazine cover today (if not, you can check it out online)? What was your reaction? An almost 4 year old, latched on to his mother, has left most people dumbfounded. But, if we separate ourselves from the usual “gross” or “ewww” responses, are there any benefits? What is the Islamic perspective on this?

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

In Islam maximum age for breastfeeding is 2 years. Kids over the age of 2 can recall past events quite easily and you don’t want your kid to remember suckling (or may be you do :bummer: not you Gaia ).

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

According to Islam I believe that we are advised to wean our children by the age of 2.........please if someone could confirm from the source....

Loads of interesting material for firenze’s eyes.

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

I saw it today and was like, wow now "Time" is going to sell like this? Second thought, photoshop.. third thought, this kid must not be hers. :)

I havent gone through the details yet ofcourse and will definitely try not to read it.

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

I guess if it works for some, that’s great. None of my bizniz.

However, I don’t think I want my pre-schooler to check out my milking parts :nahi:!

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

“The mothers shall give suck to their children for two whole years, (that is) for those (parents) who desire to complete the term of suckling” [al-Baqarah 2:233]

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

I'm so tempted to post the Little Britain skit.

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

are you serious?

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

I saw that and it definitely weird. Islam or no Islam.

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

Defying the norm but no harm done to anyone so whatever... still gross though. :/

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

it is pretty gross and somehow doesn't seem natural. A mother should be a symbol of modesty and respect for a kid. If it's actually mixed the remembrance of the milking parts which are also a woman's niswani husn, I doubt the poor kid wouldn't be freaked out when he grows up.

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

It is weird

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

Totally weird. It would be very awkward for the kid when it grows up. God help the kid.

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

Reminded me of that weird kid from Game of Thrones :-/

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

did no one watch that clip then? one of the kids was 8.

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

I’ve watched that clip before. Actually I’ve watched the whole documentary. It’s pretty disturbing to see a 8 year old being breastfed. And the mom goes, “I think the kids should get to decide themselves when they want to stop”.

Re: Time Magazine: Are You Mom Enough?

I had a business partner in a retail business once who, after dealing with an extremely demanding and persnickity customer, said just as the man was going out the door (he could no doubt hear the comment): "Now there goes a man who was breastfed too long!"
