And doesn't it just fill you with confidence when the US staff and generals say we are going to follow the Afghan model in Iraq?!
US never was in Afghanistan and never will be!! 110 thousand Russkies went back with sore butt and you thing 1000 rambos will do wonders! LOLzz only when they are hiding behind the Northern druggies.
Afghan war was lost before it even started you will not hear much about Afghan except Karzai and his one block govt....
An old Hindu saying
'Oh Gods, from the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger, and the vengeance of the Afghan -- deliver us.'
While it might make you feel better to believe this Abbie, the reality is much different. While the Afghanis pushed out the Soviet forces thanks to Amreeka's help, Amreeka is responsible for the very downfall of the Soviet Union and will also be leaving Afghanistan on it's own terms.
The mujhadeen have so far only shown themselves to be expert at hiding in caves and avoiding capture, but that won't last forever. Evidence seems to indicate that God is not on their side.
Hey Stuie may be you should get out more often!! See Ameerika is a great power but only from 33K feet, its might has been proven over and over first in Korea, Vietnam, Bay of Pigs and now of course in Afghanistan.... And just to let ya know it was "commnism" that brought down a power that could incenrate the world dozen times over not John rambos.. LOLzzz... I'd suggest you stick to bringing down little Kim, Castro and Saddam that will be more then enough.
the russians and americans have devastated afghanistan. it is now surely their responsibility to help in the reconstruction of the country. if they leave at this stage, then it is not difficult to see history repeating itself. hope americe learns some sense.
Munna.
Oh, so our economical, technological, military, and cultural leadership is a mass delusion shared by the whole world? Communist Russia failed because it couldn't compete with the west from an economical standpoint, it's that plain and simple.
And lastly, did you ever think that for you "Ameerika is a great power from 33K feet" because you and your kind are so lowly?
My my my seems like I stepped on ur tail!!! LOLz.... A few puny states ripped your ass apart in broad day light and you have the nerve to brag........ Hey that bad little kim can repeat 50s and 60s any time any place even at 33K feet... he now has a swinging plutonim chappal in his hand I'd say you try again, lets see...... Oh BTW don't forget the monkey in the white house of the time offered $2B to little Ho Chi Minh to whiggle its way out of Vietnam.. Ur technology and $$s did not do jack then and I doub't it will do much now.....
Oh well when the smoke clears it will always be there for all to see just like ur above success stories. ;)
I think the most important lesson on 'nation-building' can be learned from our actions in Korea between WWII and the Korean War, also our management of the exiles during and before WWII. People like to remember MacArthur but many forget Hodge.
A good book with sections on this is:
A History of the Korean People in Modern Times: 1800 To the Present by Robert T. Oliver

Well the Vietnamese were not that impressed. What is happening today in Afghanistan is exactly what happened to the US in Vietnam, and what happened to the Soviets. The American's may still be in Afghanistan in ten years time, but they will never "win" it...and you can bet on that. :)
One thing to remember about this:
It was a more than a year before things began truly falling apart for the Soviets. We have not been there too long so there is still the possibility that it may go either way. From what has happened so far it seems that we are not going down the favored path. Hopefully open chaos does not break out soon as it did for the Soviets.
Also, another thing to think about.. If we do catch Osama, where should we say we found him? I mean, there are so many followers of him still in Afghanistan, not to mention Pak and elsewhere, could his capture lead to something like a Rodney King syndrome? (OK! bad example.. you know what I mean tho?)

us operations in vietnam and us operatiions in afghanistan cannot be compared. in vietnam, it was us vs (vietnam, russia and china) us wanted to match the communists in every part of the world. so their invovement in vietnam was more than that in afghanistan. in afghanistan, us will not maintain that kind of overpowering military presence. it will use allies like 'beloved' pakistan, uzbek, turkmenistan and other central asians. also the opposition to us in afghanistan is not organised. so that will make very little difference to us. a long term commitment to afghanistan from the us will probably see more goodwill from afghans in the long run. economy will improve, standard of living will improve.
Munnabhai.
You should watch the CBS show “Profile” which I think is aired every week with a new episode staring American specials forces in Afghanistan and the Gulf. This time the profile was about a woman doctor in Afghanistan, and during that show at least 5 US “casualties” came in for her to work on. She also talked about how she was supposed to help this guy “last week” but before she can reach him he died from wounds.
Now all that left me puzzled, because you don’t hear about all that which was shown and talked about in the NEWS i.e CNN. Usually it’s always, “rockets fired at US bases BUT NO CASULTIES” bs. It is estimated that every single day at least five rockets are fired at Bagram air base alone! To imagine that all those rockets do is blow dust is childish.
One giant “weapon” that the US used against Russia in the Afghan war was PROPAGANDA! Millions of dollars were poured in so the world could see how Afghan Mujahideen blasted Russians into oblivion. So much so that Russia ordered its troops to “KILL ANY REPORTER seen on the spot”! The images shown on TVs around the world demoralized Russian public and turned it against its own government forcing them to withdrawal. Those images and the "might" of Mujahideen encouraged more and more Muslim youth that hundreds on top of hundreds came to fight. Now at least the Russians had the balls to stay for so long, if the images of US soldiers are shown I bet they would be ordered to withdrawal in a WEEK!
The only places that are under US control are areas that want to be under US control i.e. areas that are Northern Alliance strongholds and those areas that want to be protected from the local militias and warlords. Areas like Paktia, Paktika, Khost, and areas surrounding Qandahar are not under US control. The only way to get into those areas is possible if you come with in from Pakistani borders which you see happening in the recent hunt for Bin Laden.
Stick to India Stuy, that’s where you from and that’s what you should talk about.

Huh? I live in California dude. I come from Arizona, and the closest I come to being an Indian is having lived near a Navajo reservation. Keep that paranoia in check.
Anyway, back to the topic. The USA is undefeated in conflicts (like this one) that count. Rest assured that we will be in Afghanistan as long as it takes and leave of our own accord.
you were also in Korea for 10 and another 10 in Vietnam with more then 550K GI Joes…
Those 1000 US pretty boys in Afghanistan are very welcome in Kandhar… ![]()
I guess we'll see, won't we Abbie? My bet is that 10 years from now the US will still have a stabilizing presence in Afghanistan and the cyber-jihadis will still be proclaiming phantom victories for the Taliban in the guerilla war, that there is a war on Islam, and that the Kalifah is at right around the corner.
You should just be happy that we don't have a cricket team.
Oh yes yes Sh!tuie just like US has its awesome presence in Vietnam, NK and Cuba it will sure have its presence in Afghanistan right behind NA with its 1000 john rambos. ![]()

Now you don't expect US to come out in the open about its mighty success now do you. The lul in the media should be more then enough proof of one more US success story BUT only in reverse. Hey its been 18 months with nothing to show LOL.. with 40,000 Talibs and Al-Qaeda only couple 100 foot soldiers captured to justfy its $1B day operation..
yeah that is ofcouse a mighty success at this rate US will out do its success in Vietnam and Korea hands down.
I just love the way you guys who know little of history throw out comparisons that have no factual or logical connection to the events you comparing.
In neither Viet Nam nor Korea did the US have a military objective of removing a government from power and putting in a new regime in its place. In Viet Nam, the US objective was never to depose the government of the North. Similarly, the Korean War was not about conquering the North. In both cases, the wars had limited defensive objectives. When one compares the respective development of North and South Korea post-armistice, you'd have to be a real nutjob to argue that the North won and the Americans were defeated in accomplishing their objective. In Viet Nam, you'd have to be a nutjob to ultimately argue the US accomplished its objective. You win some and you lose some. And, hopefully, you learn from your mistakes. Hopefully, we will never commit our troops to a limited engagement war again and deprive them of the tools necessary to win.
The Afghan war itself was a remarkable display of tactical and technological superiority. The defeat of the armed enemy was swift and complete in the blink of an eye with a commitment of remarkably few US troops. Whether the US is ultimately successful in nation building there, no parralel with Viet Nam exists. Afghanistan is unique and stands on its own.
As to throwing Cuba in the mix, you history buffs would have to educate me on when the US fought a war with Cuba. I'd sure be interested in getting some casualty figures from that war, both civilian and military.

I know its like rubbing it in and I love yankee reaction especially when they throw in their IFs and BUT(T)s.
Yes defeat is very bitter no matter how much you sugarcoat the pill... Don't even try......
Why was America there who gives two hoots and its beside the point as long as the Kims and Kongs showed you the way out the hard way.
