Time Delay in Dreams 

I don’t know if it is a scientifically proven phenomenon, but in dreams one can observe a very long event and when you wake up, you realize that you’ve been sleeping for only 15-20 minutes.

I wonder if our mind can only keep track of normal flow of time only when our body is also experiencing a time flow, that is, when we are up.

And when we go to sleep, our mind does not have any frame of reference left to measure time flow, so it plays games with us.

Does that mean that if some Matrix (the movie) thingie can become reality, we can live a whole virtual life in a day, or at least do a PhD in few hours?

Maybe we can at least read a full book in 15 minutes if our mind can disconnect itself from the rest of the world and some digital signal can send that book info into our brain.

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

Am already living a virtual life .... check secondlife dot com :D

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

Dreams combine verbal, visual and emotional stimuli into a sometimes broken, nonsensical and sometimes an entertaining story. We can sometimes even solve problems in our sleep. Or can we? Many experts disagree on exactly what the purpose of our dreams might be. Are they strictly random brain impulses, or are our brains actually working through issues from our daily life while we sleep -- as a sort of coping mechanism? Should we even bother to interpret our dreams? Many say yes.

Regarding the question of time, most dreams last anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes, and it only seems to the awake person that we have seen a lifetime of events, but the fact of the matter is that it is only a perception. The awake mind behaves very differently than the asleep brain...

Yes, you can get your PhD in your sleep. I don't know how the degree wil be printed out.

And no, this is Allah mian's world. Me dun wanna live in a matrix.

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

Hey, where did everyone go? Sleeping?

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

dreams main hota yea hai kk your soul comes out of ur body and travels in some other dimension.. and experience all the things that u see in ur dreams .. yeahh but since the soul travels on the speed of light, everything happens real fast..

thats the most exact theory which some scientist will prove in the coming centuries..

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

And that is why I respect you so much.
Tumhaaray bacchon ki fikar hai...

On second thought, your interpretation actually makes sense.

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

But if soul leaves your body, then you are dead. Once you are dead, you cannot die again (as promised by Quran).

So if you dream once, you are alive till eternity ... by your logic.

Ub bolo .... kiyaa kehtee hai aap kee thoery is baaray maiN

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

and we always see the future . another point . it moves forward only. hence there's no measure of it altogether

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

no we move through it.

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

yes i mean the same :hehe: we cannot move backwards even in dreams

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

I think brain(software in it) has no limits of time. Thats how ppl see events from future.

Re: Time Delay in Dreams 

but if it(brain) did not have time limits it could also see certain events of past , not only future.

once Benazir Bhutto in her speech quoted that Hazrat Muhammad :saw: asked Jabrail elah salam … what is the significance of time in islam

Jabrail answered theres always a start and an end for time . one who can understand this can understand eveything .

lol. i think there’s always a start in our dreams fom the present time .i.e whenever we go to sleep.
