Throwing makeup away

Do you guys throw makeup away after 1-2 years or do you just let it pile up ? :smilestar:

I hate throwing stuff away that hasn’t been used or if it’s not been used alot. It has to be done though. I wouldn’t want my skin to get damaged :bummer:

Re: Throwing makeup away

If I find that I don't use it too often, I will give it to my mother to use herself or take to Pakistan. I hardly ever throw anything out.....waise bhi if I dont' lke something I will hardly keep it, I will return it.

Re: Throwing makeup away

not after 1-2 years..i've noticed that lipsticks tend to expire soon they develop a foul smell..i usually give em away to my maids..i have given away my ysl, estee lauder, clinique ones :(

Re: Throwing makeup away

I don't ever t hrow anything away. I keep my makeup clean.. very clean. I know if I don't like something, someone else will. I keep my stuff even when I don't use it and when my cousins/friends/sisters visit, I let them take things t hey like from my makeup.

Re: Throwing makeup away

I give some of mine to my cousins but things I can't let go off just sit there until I eventually have to throw them out :(

Re: Throwing makeup away

Nope , nothing happens to makeup if you keep your brushes clean ... I have known people in the cosmetic industry and they said ,its a myth really , to throw away makeup every one or two years ... unless you have a very sensitive skin ...

I have been using lipsticks and eyeshadow kits since over 7 years .. and nothings happened to them ...

It might be coz i am living in a cooler region , but if it gets as hot as in pakistan or Middle east , then surely you need to throw away stuff and buy new things every few years .... heat can kill the makeup....

Re: Throwing makeup away

To be honest if it smells ok and isn't ancient then it should be fine - esp if you haven't really used it. I don't agree with this whole changing your mascara every few months. If it's just you using it and you've never had an infection then the chances of you developing anything nasty are very slim. With brushes - just clean them regularly and they will last you absolutely ages!

Great marketing ploy for the big companies though!

Re: Throwing makeup away

Amor , you have said it :lifey: … I fully agree … the key thing is to wash /clean your brushes regularly .. rest will fall in place :cb:

Re: Throwing makeup away

Why didn’t anyone tell me all this before?:teary2:

Re: Throwing makeup away

MKD … :smilestar: Makeup is like our second skin , never part with it :omg:

I have powder eyeshadows that I've had for 4-5 years and they're still fine. Foundations/face power/prime etc.....I usuaually finish and re-purchase every year anyway.

With cream products, as long as they don't smell or the texture hasn't changed, I don't throw them away. I have lipsticks that're 4 years old and I still use them.

I also wash my brushes often. In fact, bruhes that I use non dry items with (foundation, eye liner etc), I wash after every SINGLE use.

Re: Throwing makeup away

i jus keep in a pile n then my cuzns cum n take it all

Re: Throwing makeup away

For stuff i’ve never used - rather than throwing it away, i give it to my nieces/sister…they take stuff without me knowing anyway!!! :nahi:

The only reason I chuck out mascara's after a few months is because they dry out after continued use and so they don't apply properly.

I chuck out things that have obviously gone bad, if I don't use something I usually give it to my mum, sister or cousins rather than throwing it away.

Re: Throwing makeup away

Le gasp! Never ever throw away makeup! As long as it is clean, and closed properly, it still works! I have 3-4 year old concealer I still use! And older than that eyeshadow! All my new makeup (and believe me I have plenty! laughs gleefully) is being saved for Pakistan!

I agree. How quickly your mascara will dry out can be quite hit and miss as you don't know how long it's been sat in storage/on the shelf before being sold. Also pumping the wand can cause mascara to dry out too.

I had one trusty mascara that I'd had for ages (over a year) and it was still in perfect condition as I'd made sure not to pump it and had tightly shut it every time it was used. I lost it though lol

Makeup is the necessary part of women fashion. It cab be said easily that women are incomplete without the makeup. It is more important for the married women to attract their husbands and to spend the good life. Women particularly married, should do exercise regularly to keep their fitness and for the maintenance of beauty.

Re: Throwing makeup away

I agree with people who are saying that there won't be any bacteria or other issues if you keep your makeup clean. I have makeup from 8-9 yrs ago that I still use. Trust me... if you keep it clean and stored nice, it'll last forever. I wash my brushes once or twice a month.. and anything I use a lot of.. foundation, bronzer, gets finish in few months anyway. So ladies please don't throw your makeup away. it doesn't go bad if you store it good.

And that whole mascara thing, they say throw it way every 6 months because it dries out not becasue of bacteria.

Exactly what I used to do and I ended up with over 3 crates worth of beauty products…lol

How often?

Yup…my sisters have a field day when Im cleaning out my closets or crates every so often…
