Re: Thrift stores

What's a thrift store Kinzz? Is it like a £ or $ store?

If it's like a charity shop like Oxfam then yes I often buy a lot of books from Oxfam, 10 books for £10 and some of them are usually quite rare.

Re: Thrift stores

^ yeah thrift stores are charity shops, hospice shop or like car boot sales.

For the question: oh yes i have bought quite a lot from thrift stores and always into such stores to see if there is anything good.

Re: Thrift stores

I've worked at a thrift store (Salvation Army) and trust me you do not want to buy stuff from there especially clothes. They smell bad, are unwashed and are kept in garbage bags along with other dirty clothes. It's disgusting I have to wear gloves and a mask when sorting the clothes and hanging them on the racks.

Re: Thrift stores

NO!...i think those stores are meant for **'less fortunate' *among us. if those among us who have been blessed more than others go there and buy at cost that amounts to almost nothing is like taking away their share of things...i think it's morally wrong for more fortunate people to buy at a store meant for 'less fortunate' people.*** :)**

Re: Thrift stores

But the money received by thrift stores goes to charity. So by purchasing things from thrift stores, you're technically helping those less fortunate. :p

Re: Thrift stores

i'll give you an example...suppose there is a crystal piece which at a thrift store sells for $10...now if someone buys that then the $10 will go to charity, prolly only $8 will go because of the administrative expenses will eat up $2...now, this less fortunate person can never buy the equivalent piece of crystal for $8. now, you may ask why a poor person wud want to buy a crystal piece...i wud say...those people also have the right to a small luxuries in life which they wanna buy with whatever little they have. we shouldn't take that away from them! :)

Re: Thrift stores

Really ? But I don't buy cloths.i buy showpieces..I think peoPle who buy cloths from there they must wash them before using them .

Re: Thrift stores

Gloves and a mask!!! LOL What the heck! I've worked at a charity shop and yeh they come in bag but what other form did you expect them in :P They're really not that bad! We used to steam them and if anything was unwearable that wouldn't be put out into the shop. I've found really good stuff there over the years :)

Re: Thrift stores

The whole point of charity shops is for people to donate their goods, then other people buy them, the money goes to the poor. Yes some goes towards maintaining the shop or whatever but these 'less fortunate' people hardly have money to buy food, crystal pieces are not a priority. If 'more fortunate' people didn't buy from there the shops would have to be closed down.
Also gift aiding when you buy things really helps, so gift aid people!
