Gloves and a mask!!! LOL What the heck! I've worked at a charity shop and yeh they come in bag but what other form did you expect them in :P They're really not that bad! We used to steam them and if anything was unwearable that wouldn't be put out into the shop. I've found really good stuff there over the years :)
Same one of my friends worked at Oxfam and I did at BHF, we polished and scrubbed till everything was in pristine condition, and there are hidden gems, albeit rarely.

At Salvation Army we didn't wash them or anything. The came in garbage bags, were sorted and put on the racks. And I'm talking strictly about clothes here.
The whole point of charity shops is for people to donate their goods, then other people buy them, the money goes to the poor. Yes some goes towards maintaining the shop or whatever but these 'less fortunate' people hardly have money to buy food, crystal pieces are not a priority. If 'more fortunate' people didn't buy from there the shops would have to be closed down.
Also gift aiding when you buy things really helps, so gift aid people!
but bro, crystal was just an example...it could be items of necessity like furniture or crockery. if somewhat richer people bought items at bargain prices, there will be nothing left for the poor.
