''Thousands flee Banglore''

BBC News - Thousands flee violence threats in Indian city of Bangalore

Thousands of people from India’s north-eastern states have fled the southern city of Bangalore amid fears that they will be targeted in attacks.
Indian Home Secretary RK Singh blamed the mass exodus on “rumour mongering”.
He insisted there was was no threat to anyone from the north-east living anywhere in the country.
Correspondents say the rumours of attacks may be linked to clashes in the north-eastern state of Assam last month.
More than 300,000 people fled after fighting between indigenous Bodo tribes and Muslim settlers in Assam.
Fresh violence between the two sides was reported on Thursday when a mob burnt down a bus and a road bridge, reports say.
Police said local Muslims blocked a highway in protest against an overnight incident in which a group of Bodos set a car on fire near Rangiya, 60km (40 miles) west of Assam’s main city of Guwahati.
**‘All frightened’**The main railway station in Bangalore was flooded with migrant workers from north-eastern states after rumours spread on Wednesday.

The railways ran special trains to the north-east to cope with the rush, officials said.
There are 250,000 people from the north-east living and working in Bangalore, which is often referred to as the Silicon Valley of India.
Many of them are students, security guards and workers in the hospitality sector.
Around 4,000 fled on Wednesday, a senior police officer in the city told the BBC.
He said that rumours about possible violence were spread by text messages.
“We will soon catch hold of people who sent out these messages,” said the police officer.
Karnataka Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar said that he had reassured Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that there were “no untoward incidents nor any threat to people of north-eastern states [living in Bangalore].”
He added: “I promised that [the] necessary steps would be taken to give protection to these people.”
Manoj, a security guard from a north-east state, told the BBC that residents of the region were “all frightened”.
“My friend [from the region] was threatened by a knife-wielding man saying that he should leave the city if he cared for his life,” he said.
A worker at a city restaurant from the region said there were “rumours that people from the north-east would be attacked”.
The rumours came a day after a 22-year-old Tibetan student was allegedly attacked in Mysore city near Bangalore by two people who suspected him of being from the north-east.
Many young people from the restive north-east region have migrated to the cities of Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore in search of better jobs and education.

Not a peep on our Bollywood loving Pakistani news channels.

To resident Indians, what is going on?

Re: ''Thousands flee Banglore''

Perhaps it's a good idea that Pakistani channels aren't giving too much coverage to this news. It has sparked violence in many parts of India because Indian muslims and non-muslims alike are pretty darn angry. Desi awaam loves revenge, they've already taken matters into their own hands in places like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik etc.

After all these repercussions, what makes the authorities so sure that there will be no clashes in Bangalore? To me it seems like the government is hell-bent on trying to portray that everything is under control or everything is a part of a "big conspiracy" and "rumour-mongering".

Forget Bangalore, they're claiming that Assam is perfectly safe for the survivors to return to. Over 400,000 people from Assam had been rendered homeless and they were given a deadline of 15th August to leave the relief camps and go back home because everything was fine and dandy. These people have nothing left to go back to, everything has been destroyed. The only statement I've read from the Assam minister is that the survivors will be provided with relief and compensation but absolutely no details of how exactly the government plans on providing security and shelter to these people once they return.

"Insecure" Muslim youth in Mumbai. Other "oppressed" Muslims also beat up NE students in various parts of India. Threatening SMSs from "oppressed" Muslims are also doing the rounds in which they order NE students to leave mainland India.

So the "belligerent" majority is fleeing.

SNAFU. As usual in India.

“Oppressed” Muslims in Allahabad and Lucknow turn violent

http://www.thehindu.com/multimedia/dynamic/01181/TH18_MUSLIM_PROTES_1181375f.jpg

Muslims in some cities of Uttar Pradesh took to road protesting against the killings in Assam and Myanmar in Lucknow and several parts of the state. Violent scenes were witnessed in Lucknow and other cities.** All the protests were held after the Namaz of Alvida Juma **(last Friday of Juma). In Lucknow, the Muslims took out a procession from Tile Wali Masjid after the Namaz.

As they proceeded towards Vidhan Bhawan to lodge their protest, the procession turned violent. **They damaged vehicles, bashed up people and broke the cameras of media persons.

The Budha Park which has a tall statue of Budha was the first target. **They uprooted the gate of the park to force their entry. **Attempts were made to deface the statue but they remained unsuccessful. **Next was Hathi Park where also another failed attempt was made to deface the statue.

Later as the procession moved ahead it turned violent. Police used mild force to enforce order. However most of the time they remained mute spectators. Soon t**he mob turned its anger towards the media persons covering the event. Their camera was snatched while OB Van of Aaj Tak channel was also damaged. **The media persons later themselves sat on a dharna at Vidhan Bhawan and the home secretary assured them that proper enquiry will be done.

Similar story was repeated in Allahabad. Stone pelting and damaging the vehicle was done by the processionist. Here police acted tough and used force. Later curfew was clamped for five hours in Kotwali police circle.

In Kanpur also minor violence was reported from Rizvi road and adjoining areas. However situation was brought under control.

Till late night police has registed cases at Allahabad, Kanpur and were in the process of registering in Lucknow. A senior police official stated that list is being prepared and the miscreants are being identified.

The protests were held under the aegis of **Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind **whose state level functionary Maulana Jahangir Kasmi denied that his men were behind such protest. “We had left after our token protest and then it was only a mob,” he said.

Security forces were caught off guard as the planning for the protest was being held for quite some time. Posters had come up in Muslim dominated areas but still administration did not take security measures.

Re: ''Thousands flee Banglore''

And I thought it was the big bad hand of ISI... LOL...

Re: ''Thousands flee Banglore''

ISI probably...pakistani ghoos bethiye

Re: ''Thousands flee Banglore''

Gotta love the double standards. One live conversion in Pakistan apparently gives the minorities every reason to fear the worst of the worst repercussions. But in this case, the Muslims have absolutely no reason to be protesting or fleeing. It's all a big conspiracy.

Re: ‘‘Thousands flee Banglore’’

When ever muslim protest thats some sort of terrorist activity…:hehe:
every year lot of protests are conducted by majority where public property and police vehicles are damaged but when ever muslims do that it has some link to terrorism…
and they are mocked as oppressed…
when krishan bheel slapped maulana in NA of pakistan…its like saying leader of oppressed hindus slapped a muslim cleric

Re: ‘‘Thousands flee Banglore’’

Please give the source of the news where four people of north eastern origin killed in banglore…:frowning:

Re: ''Thousands flee Banglore''

What ever happened between the tribals and the illegal Bangladeshi settlers is being handled by the police and Govt in Assam. Why are muslims protesting for the illegal settlers **against **the Indian Tribals ? They could have protested against loss of life irrespective of religion in a peaceful manner and it would have given them some credibility atleast. With all these riots and other activities in other parts of the country of the behalf of illegal non Indians, it makes it look like they are batting for the other side against India. Why this ghetto mentality ? It is incidences like these that convinces the majority population to question the Indian muslims' patriotism and love for their motherland and so they are looked at in suspicion. If this continues, there may be some retaliation against the muslims which will of course be disastrous for the muslim community. They will then complain about "opperssion". What foolishness !

Re: ''Thousands flee Banglore''

When those illegal settlers are human beings............some one must raise voice for them..if no one then at least muslims....:)

when tamils of tamilnadu are allowed to worry for tamils of srilanka then whats wrong if muslims are angry after killing of muslims..even if they are illegal immigrants...

and i dont think if they are illegal immigrant means they can be killed and culled at will :)

and Dronacharya posted pics of muslim protesting like no other community turns violent during protests..

just check record of violent protests by shivsena and Nav nirman sena in mumbai...

Re: ''Thousands flee Banglore''

Didn't the BJP protest turn violent yesterday over some lame land issue or something? Why couldn't they have carried out the protest peacefully when the issue at hand was nowhere near as serious as a massacre? They too injured their own people and police personnel so why isn't the majority population questioning their patriotism?

It's pathetic but when do protests in Pakistan and India not turn violent? That's why I said in my first post that our desi awaam loves revenge and loves to take matters into their own hands, that has nothing to do with their religion, unlike what Dronacharya seems to be taunting about.

Re: ‘‘Thousands flee Banglore’’

The question of nationality is more important here. Like I said, muslims could have protested against loss of any life irrespective of religion. What is wrong is that they picked a side here against the rest of India and that is a very foolish and anti-national thing to do. And lets not kid ourselves, the reason they did that is only because the illegal settlers are muslims. why did not the muslims protest for the human being tamils of sri Lanka or against the muslim human beings of Kashmir who drove out their fellow human being pundits ? of Let Bangladesh protest for its illegal immigrants. There is also UNHRC and other watchdogs. Yes Tamils protested against Lankans but the rest of India did not harass buddhists and sri Lankans because of what they did. The way you are trying to justify the muslim community actions is like "Look these people did foolish f----d up things so we are going to follow their example and do more foolish and f----d up things. I stand by my earlier statement that this makes the majority look at the muslims with suspicion.
Just think about this, what will happen to the muslims, if the rest of India decide to stand by their Indian Brethren instead of the illegal immigrants ?
