Thoughts on marrying a really...

It’s noble to want to give a poor girl a better life. But…it shouldn’t be done in a way as if you’re being “beneveloent”…or looking down upon her and her family. Nobody wants to be pitied.

Not saying this would happen…but just throwing out some possible situations. The wealthier family could look down on her and her family…they may not blatantly say it…but their body language/interactions could indirectly reflect this sentiment. The less wealthier family might feel insecure and self-conscious about their status. Even a truly sincere and kind gesture from the wealthy family…may be perceived as an insult “neecha dikhana” by the less wealthy family. What if the less wealthy family…tries to take “advantage” of the wealthier one…like using the other for various gains? What if the wealthy family thinks that they can easily control or manipulate the poor, naive, lil village girl (then again she may not be naive or innocent)?

Desi families of the same socioeconomic class can be fraught with drama. And granted that you may find a girl of the SAME background as you…to be compatible. But keep in mind…that a greater disparity between the socioeconomic classes can come with unique/greater obstacles to overcome.

I’m not saying that it can’t work. While I’ve heard that similar backgrounds are better for a marriage…I understand that there are exceptions to the generalization. I do think, that REAL LIFE is not as SIMPLE as you’ve made your question out to be, Lahori. Compatibility is essential and complicated and can include other factors besides being okay looking and having good character.
