Said the journalist Saleh al-Humaidi to Reuters in Yemen today. He is only calling a spade a spade.
**New Abu Ghraib abuse photos anger Arabs **
An Australian television station broadcast on Wednesday what it said were previously unpublished images of abuse of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison, fueling more Arab anger against the United States. The Special Broadcasting Service’s “Dateline” current affairs program said the images were recorded at the same time as the now-infamous pictures of U.S. soldiers abusing Abu Ghraib detainees which sparked international outrage in 2004. Some of the newly broadcast pictures suggest further abuse such as killing, torture and sexual humiliation, Dateline said. The grainy, still photographs and video images show prisoners, some bleeding or hooded, bound to beds and doors, sometimes with a smiling American guard beside them. They include two naked men handcuffed together, a pile of five naked detainees photographed from the rear, and a dog straining at a leash close to the face of a crouching man wearing a bright orange jumpsuit.
The images were swiftly re-broadcast by Arab satellite television stations and several news organizations, including American ABC News television, showed them on their Web sites. They stirred up more anger among Arabs, already incensed by the publication on Sunday of images of British soldiers apparently beating Iraqi youths and by cartoons satirizing the Prophet Mohammad printed in European papers this month. “This is truly American ugliness that no other country in the world can compete with,” journalist Saleh al-Humaidi told Reuters in Yemen. “The Americans ought to apologize to mankind for their government’s lie to the world that it is fighting for freedom and that it came to Iraq to save it from Saddam Hussein’s oppression,” he said.
Re: "This is truly American ugliness that no other country in the world can compete with"
How many western governments have come out with clear condemnation of the bruatlilty of the American soldiers in Iraq, as evidenced by these pictures?
It seems quite a number of US soldiers were responsible for carrying out such brutal and inhumane acts. But how any American soldiers have actually been punished and received long prison sentances?

Looks like Dick cheney had a motive afterall for SHOOTING A DUDE IN THE FACE!!
Faced with the prison scandal surfacing and fear of Scooter singing like a canary, this admin. had only two ways to employ a diversionary tactic.
1) by upping the terror alert to bright orange, or
2) by having Dick SHOOT A GUY IN THE FACE.
Re: "This is truly American ugliness that no other country in the world can compete with"
Old news, quite horrible and that doesn't change. And it's the same group of people from the photos we saw a couple of years ago. Shall we bring up the posts of the burned bodies that were hung from the telephone wires? How about the ones from Somalia dragging troops behind jeeps? How about one of a Pakistani woman with her face burned from acid thown on by her husband? The list goes on and on.
*"....ugliness that no other country in the world can compete with." Please give us a break, this ugliness is worldwide and sickening. *

American's do not.
They are still raping, torturing and murdering people in Iraq. Their ugly behavior in Iraq confirms what many claimed before Abu Ghraib and after, but which American's still cannot face upto.
Re: "This is truly American ugliness that no other country in the world can compete with"
American troops killed Iraqi's before Abu Ghraib and after have contiuned to so after it. Rape and torture comes with such acts, because that is the ugly nature of the American presence in Iraq. Not many ugly Ameican soldiers recieved long sentences for such crimes, with many making excuses for these pathetic people.

"The US has said images broadcast on Australian TV showing the apparent abuse of Iraqi detainees by US soldiers should not have been released."

guys why do we want to paint others with a broad brush when we dont like it when its done to us? you cant make it a race or a nationality issue. The pictures show a very wrong thing going on, no doubt about it. But can we really blame an entire nation or race for it? you can blame the govt, the policy makers and the military leaders, and while there may be avg joes who are happy to see this type of stuff being done, I certainly doubt that is a majority by any means
