We dont really eat dinner since we make 2 or 3 items at iftar. So far we had egg rolls/fruitchat on the first day and then light dinner. Second day we had pakoras/fruit chat and no dinner. So if we do have fried stuff, its only one fried item and perhaps no more than 3,4 days a week. Isnt taht great? :halo:
But seroiusly Fayz, this is a good idea. I think i will lay off the rooh afza, and parathay etc. Dont really need parathay anyways, its not like i work on a farm or something and need the extra calories, you know.
i dont know how people can bother with iftaari and dinner separetly.. we have the table covered and wolf it down.. and when its time for maghrib.. just pray, sit back down at the table and wolf again!
hehe no serously i have lost 40llbs since may and in keeping with being good.. the programme i have adapted is:-
1) Iftaari.. I have half a kajoor.
2) have a glass of very weak milkshake (semi-skimmed milk)
3)Have 1 and a half roti with salan
Sadia baji, are you sure you watch your diet eleven months out of twelve? Majority of us don’t so Ramazan gives us an opportunity to start watching and continue the trend for the rest of the year. Getting a start at anything is the hardest thing to do, especially when it comes to healthy eating.
Sadzz, four dates and daal roti roti sounds quite bechara and depressing menu. You have to keep your meals interesting. Catty has a good variety of food which sound healthy. Thanks Mem saab..we need ideas people! More ideas the better!
The idea is not to starve yourself to death but to eat healthy and avoid junk like pakoray and parathay.
So far the roza is going alright…It’s the lunch hour and I am starving but I’m trying to concentrate on other things like replying to this thread and avoiding the chick in HR. That girl doesn’t realize that the weather is getting chilly and I’m fasting…I’m hoping the bimbo wears something decent tomorrow…that isn’t helping much either. Oh well…guzar hi jay ga din. :-( Looking forward to the abs workout tonight!
Fayz, well of course I dont watch what I eat for eleven months, but then my question is why do we have to start on ramazan, why not any other month of the year. Ramazan is such a blessed months, why starve yourself just for looking good, but I understand your point, that the key is to eat healthy food and not to stuff ourself with pakoray and samosay.
Yesterday at Iftrai, I had 2-3 dates and a plate of dahi barey, thats all.
For sehri a roti, with a bit of desi ghee and salan from yesterday.
So tell me, oh fitness Guru, how many dates are recommended for Iftari?
Unlike guys gals take dieting too seriously and instead of substituting food they tend to skip food.
here are few substitutes…
drinks ----> Soups, make soup every other day(or twice a week) and fill you tummy with it so you that you dont have the desire to eat much. Soup is very good for health and provide you the required nutritions :k:
Few soups, vegi ,mushroom, chicken cream add your favorites
fill you stomach with good food like fruits(chaat) ,yougurt, salad, sandwich. and eat lesser number of fried stuff, like 1,2 pakora or egg rolls etc( don’t just give up anything you like, it is no fun)
^ soup is an excellent idea. Pakistanis dont drink enough soup. We should follow the example of Arabs, Turks and other middle easterns. Daal soup is also great. :k:
Ok America, here is what we ARE going to do. We will incorporate all five food groups i.e. grains, vegetables, fruits, meet & dairy, sugar & fats. It should provide enough calories to ensure a desirable weight and should include all the necessary daily nutrients.
Sehari:
1 cup of yogurt or cereal
1 slice of bread
1 Banana (for energy)
¼ liter of water
Iftar:
Fruit chat or Soup or dahi bhalay
A couple of dates
Bagel or (samosa/ pakoRa for the spoiled ones)
Milk
¼ liter of water
Dinner
1 roti and desi food ( I need more ideas here)
Salad
½ liter of water
I will stick with this plan for a week for sure. There is no fastfood, fried food, meetha or coke type drinks in the above mentioned diet.
I am already feeling good..I noticed I have got control over the road rage..I only cursed three times yesterday (reasons: wrong overtake, other guy driving too slow, traffic light taking forever), I have developed patience for the printer and fax machine at work. I think twice before farting and breaking wuzu. Masjid experience has been very spiritual and abs are looking great already!!
So are you guys watching the six golden rules..? Do you need a kick in the butt?..let me know
p.s. Cat-woman, I saw your thread in cafe :thunder thighs:
Saadia, desi ghee
Code_Red, Guys need to take it serious too…look at your tond
Fayz, many people skip the iftari traditional foods and just eat salan roti after having a kajoor with some milk/rooafza/water to open their roza. Would you give this practice a thumbs up? It’s a good way to skip all the fried, yet yummy, foods. I’ve been doing this … well, I didn’t on the weekend but started yesterday. I also try not to eat anything after 8:00 p.m.
I tried eating heavy breakfasts on the weekend but I knew that if I carried on like that, I would pack on 50 pounds. So now, my sehri consists of a cup of chai, bowl of weetabix cereal and a banana. I had fishsticks for iftar yesterday and then salan roti.
FG, you can have fruit chat instead of dahi bhalay. Kicks Mystical Miss out of the thread...All I am asking is motivation on GS.
Mehnaz, that's one way of doing it i.e iftar/dinner but I have kind of started enjoying iftar at the local mosques...I have so many stories already :-D
Mehnaz, excellent point and I have been doing this on weekdays. I break fast with dates, dinner and chai. After that, there is no craving for the fried stuff.
But on weekends, i go for the fried stuff. Waisay iftaar without fried stuff is not the same :(

Ouch... that hurt...
I am motivated! i have cereals for sahoor, and lots of water.. n chai..
n then fresh orange juice at iftar, a bit of roohafza coz u do need that sugar intake, natural ones dont do it enough.. I need some artificial stuff too..n then couple of pakoris,,
n then dinner.. phew!
Haven’t been to the Torbram mosque yet…went to some Ahmedi mosque on the first iftar ran back to find my kind of muslims (if there are any)
The mosque is just a couple of blocks away..on Cooper/Kennedy. Yesterday I was sitting with this Nigerian guy..we were starving so bad that we literally counted down the last ten minutes..looked at the clock, khajoor and eachother after every tick…it was hilarious.
Mystical, try multi-vitamin instead of concentrated sugars like roohafza :-p
Don't you feel drowsy without Sehri...Iftar sounds pretty nice…oh so it is summer there already…what time are you guys breaking fast in the evening?
Here are some of the ab exercises that I am doing these days…Number 3 is the best abs machine I have exercised on so far. It concentrates on your abs directly and its not too bad on the neck and the back.
