They say its a safe place

that is Pakistan
is it?how?

according to my experience ,i love Pakistan but would never even dream of going back to live there.then this brings me on to the question that what patriotism is then?

i say i love my home land but i am scared of it?

Re: they say its a safe place

I was in Pakistan when Bhutto was assassinated and trust me, I was scared - after all I saw and went through. But, I still dont like when people speak about Pakistan like its a permanent war-zone - our families live there - millions of people live there, its not in the most of stable conditions but its our MotherLand and we need to stop being scared of it. Easier said than done, I know. But I just feel like its disrespecting Pakistan by saying Id never even dream of going back to live there`.

Re: they say its a safe place

^ :k:

“biscuit baji” is having an identity crisis lol

Re: they say its a safe place

I think its more that the country has some pretty big issues that need to be addressed. Pak is a wondrous country for sure. But it also has huge issues that put its citizens in peril. No matter where you live, be it there or in the west, you can always find something to do that could help correct the situation. Support funding for education, encourage education and discourage taliban-ism. Give to charities that support these things.

Every country has issues at one time or another. Its all in how the issues are addressed and resolved that make it a good place or a bad place to live. No one wants to go to a market with fear of suicide bombers on the loose. Or facing a beating for being improperly covered or not having a long enough beard yeah? No one wants to live where they cannot get a good education for their children without paying bribes. So the issues need to be faced, addressed and corrected in a forthright manner and then people will be able to live there with pride and peace.

I'm not picking on Pak here...like I said, every country has its issues and every country has gone thru periods of crisis which I think Pak qualifies for at this time. The big thing is to do something about it yeah?

Re: they say its a safe place

If you've spent considerable time there, then yeah its absolutely safe, unless you have a knack for being in the wrong places at the wrong times.

It may not be safe...but its still my country with my people living there..

So I dont mind going back every year and yes I spend the best time of my life over there...

Re: they say its a safe place

Its not safe compared to some countries, but its safe compared to many other countries. Risk in Pakistan is being at the wrong place at the wrong time. People get murdered, raped, robbed in so-called developed countries - which are supposed to be safe. You could be in the safest of the countries and die in an accident.

My opinion - I would prefer to die in my own country and be buried in the same graveyard where my elders are buried. I feel unfortunate to be living out of Pakistan.

A guy comes from abroad to study .Just before eid ,he travels from the city hes staying at to where his family lives. The guy next to him in the bus starts a convo, offers sumthing to eat and the next moment hes unconscious. The bus stops, everyone leaves and hes the only one left alone in the bus.The guy offering stuff to eat leaves the bus taking away just his jacket and 2 dictionaries and a cell phone..worthless stuff:confused:.2 rikshaw drivers somehow leave the guy to his place with the address on his ID card.
this guy cud have died if left a few more hours and still u think theres nuthing to be scared of?

theres alot more

Re: they say its a safe place

^ happens only in Pakistan??? that would be NEWS!

Madame, you have similar lowlives wherever you go. If you think you are safe when you are out of Pakistan - think again.

Re: they say its a safe place

even 3 yr olds these days are taught never to talk to strangers or eat anything given by them :smack: this could have happened anywhere to this gullible soul.

if you seriously fear for your safety then by no means you should go back, as simple as that, you do not need to justify your fears to anybody or feel defensive about them. you are scared, others are not, you have your reasons and they have theirs and never the twain shall meet.

Re: they say its a safe place

Ok this is a silly discussion to think risk is not high in PK. There is more "random" risk. as someone said wrong place at the wrong time. Wrong place can be a perfectly nice hotel, a police station or even a red light. In developed countries risk is calculated. Wrong places are low income neighborhoods, places where drugs and gangs are active, places where excessive alcohol is being used or otherwise isolated places. That's the big difference. The randomness and the inability to protect oneself is what's scary about developing nations like Pakistan.

With that caveat though I really envy people who live in their own coutnry, there is something good to it. I wish that Pakistan was good some day and more people could live there peacefully.

Re: they say its a safe place

^ random risk is one issue, getting in crosshair of connected people is another, large scale attacks is another, blasts here and there, drive by in masjid etc. but thats a whole didd topic.

To your point with political violence your probability of getting caught in crossfire used to be high, one fo our family friends was killed execution style by jamiat goons who thought he was an NSF guy during a shootout at DMC back in the 80s. my dad and brother were caught in a cross fire at his college when dad inquired why he was not going for classes and took him there to get exam schedule..as they were there groups started firing at each other, dad and bro had to crawl over to some lap and hide out there until it stopped. one cousin house had a scary situation where bhabhi left her room to go to the kitchen , with kids playing on her bed, when some firing started outside and bullets came in her room shattered her mirror and all, luckily kids were not hurt.

you can be at the wrong place at the wrong time in any country, based on my experiences and those of people I know, i agree that there is more randomness. so its not just risk, but probability of risk, and lesser ability to limit exposure to risk.

Need one say more?

See that is whole catch .. cause any place at any time could turn into wrong place or wrong time, back in pakiland ...

Re: they say its a safe place

i m in pakistan and i roam around freely, really no fear. . .things are normal

traffic sucks tho . .. :smack:

Re: they say its a safe place

well roaming around with a Beretta 92FS in my jacket and a 9mm Luger under my car seat …

Damn i never had any problem :) no security issues :D

Re: they say its a safe place

roaming around in the city or a large portion of teh city is fine but atleast for karachi folks to go to interior sindh used to be a huge risk. we have some farmland that I wanted to go see and was told no, I talked to my bro in law who has comemrcial orchards and he tol me of one of his ghunda type workers that he goes in a jeep with armed men to get the payment and does not stay.

it was pretty bad with gun totting robbers stopping buses and robbing ppl, not sure if tha has changed since the 90s/

Re: they say its a safe place

okkkkk :bummer:

X2, thats very unfortunate - quite many attacks on your family. Any political or land feuds?

Situation in Pakistan is bad, but definitely not as bad as they show on TV. I have been roaming all over Pakistan, Alhamdulillah never had any problems - but that was before all these suicide bombing and taliban episodes. There certainly are places where you would not want to go, given the current situation.
