Mamaof3---Oh come now you're also generalizing. Desis are not reluctant to venture into other cultures or viewpoints. Ive lived in canada all my life, and trust me I have not exactly grown up in a glass shell. Ive met people from all over the world, the people I socialize with are as different as they can be , different races, difference backgrounds, different relgions.
And attacking is not a typical desi viewpoint. Lets just say that a lot of the times theres a stigma attached to desis or Eastern cultures. We're thought of as 'different' , sometimes 'backwards' and not open minded as you seem to be saying. That is wrong. And perhaps that gets some people defensive. But rarely have I seen desis attacking just because somebody thinks on a different level than themselves.
It goes both ways. In order to earn trust and respect from the other side, you have to be willing to do the same yourself. But come on generalizations are not very mature if you ask me. :)
Matty, I dont think he was an idiot. I am just trying to show the hypocrisy in his statement. You know me well enough to know that I dont believe in crap like that, however, when the situation calls I have to respond. :)

Sadly, there are a declining number of people like Irem on this board these days. She is a genuine and honest person, who speaks from the heart, is a very patriotic and religious person, and does not speak ill of others ALL the time such as people like you.

Sadly, there are are too many people like Irem on this board these days. They are genuinely confused, shelted and naive, jingoistic and steeped in religious hatred, and hide behind smilies while castting aspersions on others and their religion.
