Themed Parties

Re: Themed Parties

Muzna, oh so I am invited?
but then if it is really a mughal theme then we may be talking choori daars, achkan and angarkha etc.

Re: Themed Parties

okay...so I wasn't going to announce it yet, but might as well cuz I need all the help I can get.....

Noor's Bismillah
Tentative Date: June 30th...but we could end up a week or two before that depending on the availability of the right venue.

I know we can't pull off a mughal theme so we're probably going to simply have a colour theme.... unless someone can give me ideas on how to get our community to comply.....

Re: Themed Parties

an I happen to have an angharka/pishwaaz from my jahez :D

Re: Themed Parties

What's Bimillah for a child? I may have heard of it but I dun remember it.. is it the aqeeqa?

Re: Themed Parties

^ its a celebration of sorts for when the child finishes reading the Qura'an.

Re: Themed Parties

It's a ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the reading of the Quran......the Ameen is the finish.

Re: Themed Parties

June 30th eh, kewl.
I will have to stay outside during the ceremony then. listening to tilawat starts burning me :(

j/k, I am not much of a bismillah and ameen type of person. but for y'all, i will be there.

=)

Re: Themed Parties

abay…tilawat starts burning you huh…let me tell you ammi and abbu about it.

I can’t say that there’s to be much tilawat anyway…how long will it take for Noor to read “Bismillah-hir-rehman-nir-raheem”? That’s as much as I anticipate… :cb:

Re: Themed Parties

hoon na shaitaan ka chela :(

The reason I am not a big bismillah or ameen type of person is well..basically u know me, I am like a big goofy dog let loose at an event, breaking things, causing all kinds of problems. Ppl like me should be kept away from all serious and somber events.

I will take some sleepig pills and show up so I am too chilld out to really mess anything up. howz that for a compromise.

and hey let me know if I can do anything for ya.

Re: Themed Parties

yeah...you can do one thing for me......get the folks that believe this should be a sombre event with no music, no dj, no dancing, basically no "fun" to loosen up.

yikes....

why can't they understand that this event has no basis in Islam? It's a tradition, not part of our religion.

we are using it as an excuse to have a big party.......mainly because we've never had a valima here, we've never had an aqeeqa for her here, we've never even had a birthday party for her.

this is something that Ibrahim's family traditionally do and we're simply carrying on the tradition.

:mad-at-party-poopers-wala-smiley:

Re: Themed Parties

o yaar so why have an excuse of bismillah to have a party. just have a party and then u would not have to manage people's expectations or bruised feelings.

cuz like if I did not know and I went to a bismillah, and right after the kid says bismillah, the disco ball starts rotating and paul oakenfold stars spinning the vinyl, I would be a little confused meself :)

Re: Themed Parties

uffo.

let's understand this much....the bismillah has to happen. It's a tradition that will not be neglected. Like it or not. And it has to happen on a large scale.

But traditionally it's been, have the bismillah ceremony thingy, eat dinner, eat dessert and then say good-bye. That's just too boring. I can't put on an event like that.

There has to be more to it. Something for people to watch, listen to, participate in, etc., etc.

Re: Themed Parties

We have never had bismillahs or mashallahs so i dont know but I guess because its kinda like a spirtual event? Like your childs starting probably the most important knowledge in her life? Like you know and i guess it would be kinda insulting to start the Quran by doing soemthing haram in Islam? (Music is not haram but dancing and stuff with na-mahrams around is)

Re: Themed Parties

a nice idea muzna....i remember my sister had some sort of bismillah party on her fourth bday....

and now that i think of it....i dont recall me having a bismillah party...uff! the drag of being a second child....grrrr....

as for ideas..u can always have naat competitions with the kids after the bismillah ceremony...and gradually have the "real party" after that..hehe....

Re: Themed Parties

you can have Islamic trivia :cb:

Re: Themed Parties

Muz

I know what u are trying to do. am just giving you advise from my perspective. maybe you dnt hae to deal with similar stuff.

maybe you do bismillah earlier in the day with a closer group of family and friends, and then have a hulla gulla in the evening. that would create enough of a buffer to avoid coming up as disrespectful to anyone.

just my 2 paisa.

otherwise I am all set with my club outfit under sherwani to take the sherwani off and burn up the dance floor at the drop of a hat... or kullah

Re: Themed Parties

Afshi,

Noor will be the only kid in my social circle that will have a bismillah. We have Ameens more commonly, but not bismillahs. So to find kids that can recite naats etc, will be a bigger challenge than to get my vietnamese neighbour to bhangra.

Re: Themed Parties

lol muz

lemme know if u need any help..would love too!

Re: Themed Parties

btw is this a karachi wala thing?

Re: Themed Parties
