Re: theft?have you experienced?

Its a shocking experience. Especially when you are actually involved in the process. Its one thing when you get home to find your possessions stolen...its traumatic yes, but when they actually threatening you is a horrible experience I can never forget. I just Thank God for taking care of us.

Almost - but Thank God I was saved!

About 8 years ago, I was heading back to my car after class at 9:30PM. This kallu guy just started following me and there was absolutely no one around. I ignored him as much as I could and started to walk faster and faster. He kept up with me and started to tell me that he just came out of jail and has no money and if I can give him some.

I was so scared and my car was about one more block away. I just looked down without saying any word / did not look at him at all - and thankfully as I approached my car he started to walk away screaming and shouting and cursing...

My hands were shaking and I could not even open the car door. I still get scared of this.

Re: theft?have you experienced?

Many a times. But one or two items at a time back in Pakistan. Once even my drivers license and car registration got stolen from gloves compartment of my car.
None of them was shocking as Alhumdulillah the loss was not that big every time it happened.
Since I have been in US , Alhumdulillah nothing got stolen. By mistake we left the garage door open many a times overnight with thousands of dollars worth of lawn care equipment nothing got stolen. Kids would leave their bikes laying in the front yard overnight and they will still be there in the morning.

Re: theft?have you experienced?

Well, I have a story from a long time ago...

This was back in the late 80s when I was quite chota, but I still recall some of it. A thief got into our house in the twin cities in Pakistan somehow. Now this wasn't your average armed modern day robber. All he had was a little flashlight (torch as they call it there), and a screw driver. He was the sort of burglar who'd be quite alright with stealing a 'little' bit and then go away without waking anyone up. Poor guy was also hungry, went down first and decided to help himself with our fridge and ate some 'ballayi' (cream). Unfortunately for him, and fortunately for us, he wasnt very good at what he was doing and came upstairs and to figure out where he was, he would turn the lights on and off repeatedly. We got alerted to his presence, and my dad went after him with a hockey stick. Poor guy jumped from the 1st floor and at first landed on electric wires, and then onto our barbed wire bushes. Right after that, the police came (yes, the thaana was nearby so it took them a minute to get there) and beat the crap out of that poor chor. Even our neighbours joined in and the chor got a thukai of a lifetime. Turns out that the chor was from Karachi and was trying to make enough money to buy a ticket to Dubai. My mom got a little sentimental upon hearing that, and she asked the polciyaz to let him go, who were ok with it as long as they confiscated whatever he had; turns out he had robbed another house before he got into ours. A journalist showed up too, and posted a story in jang, in which he wrote '******town mey chori, chor ney ghar walloon sey khana pakwaya' (referring to the fridge incident).

Re: theft?have you experienced?

We dodged the bullet in 2005 in the vicinity of Newark airport.

We actually had to attend a function at night at a place of friends in NJ (I don’t remember the area but their house was around 20 miles from Newark airport). So thinking that area around Newark airport will be a “safe area”, I booked a room at a hotel at main airport. We (me, wife and 2.5 years old kid) checked in after driving for around 8 hours, took some rest, got freshened up and got ready for the function. Now because this was a desi function, my wife was wearing some “kam waley kaprey” and gold jewelry.

We were getting a bit late (it was around 9pm in the month of Oct) so I decided that we will go there by taking the shortest rout instead of NJTP. I took a wrong turn at a traffic light and ended up being into a dead end street. I passed a gang of 5 or 6 African Americans only to discover that it was a dead and I had to make U turn. I guess they realized instantly that I am new in the area and most probably they got glimpse of my wife’s jewelry too. As soon as I completed the U turn, they came in the middle of the road and wave hands asking me to stop the car at side. In dim street lights I could see an iron chain in hand of one guy and small knife in the hand of another. I don’t know if others have something or they were empty hands. Sensing what’s going on, I stopped the car right there. I wanted them to come to me instead of me driving the car to them, in this way I was able to see all of them approaching me. As soon as they came near to my car, all I said to my wife “duck” (in case anyone of them has a gun) and she wend down in her seat and I pressed the paddle as hard as I can. I hit leg of one of them as he tried to hit the windscreen hard with the chain, rest jumped at the side of the road and I did not look back …ran over 2/3 red traffic lights only to be stopped by a COP. He heard the entire story and escorted me back to NJTP.

are you an alter ego of Dushwari? Same writing style, same kind of questions but lacking any reference to philosophy.

Re: theft?have you experienced?

I had my wallet stolen once. I canceled all my cards right away and I only had about $20 in cash in there somewhere. I didnt lose any money. The funny thing is, the girl returned my cards, phone and IDs at my bank but kept my wallet, makeup and purse!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I lost a brand new wallet, bag and my precious makeup that I spent loads on!!!

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

Hahhahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahhahahahha.

:omg:

Dude, I laughed at this for like 5 whole minutes!

wow. what a story. i felt like i was watching a movie in my head while reading this.

you were so courageous to speed the car out form there like tha. i probably would have frozen when i saw those chains. scary.

I was visiting Karachi during summer vacations in '95 - yes THAT deadliest year! was sitting with family at home one night when suddenly heard some faint thumps on the roof. My brother and I looked at each other and I instantly shouted to closer the doors. He ran to the front while I shut the kitchen door closed and then immediately dialed a friend telling him in broken wrods to get some guys here loaded. Somehow I had the feeling that I have only few seconds to avail and thats exactly what happened, I was still on the phone when line went dead. So that was a sure shot sign of what was to follow. We crammed rest of the family in a bedroom and then my brother had the guns pulled out, gave one to me and had one for himself. Our TV lounge was the most vulnerable & the easiest point to enter since it had one outer side wall almost all built with metal grills . We turned the lights off, drew the curtains and stayed there to see what happens next. In the meantime, my friend realizing the gravity of the situation, rushed straight to my house without wasting time to collect some more help. He fired some aerial shots challenging the guys on the rooftop. He had the presence of mind not to put himself out in the open. All that shouting and firing probably played with the nerves of those guys up there and they started jumping into adjacent houses and disappeared. Was an eventful night with the entire neighborhood out on streets on the lookout for the would be robbers. Later when I checked upstairs, they were able to break into the area which leads to stairs, but due to the double door system that we had, it bought us few precious moments for help to arrive.

Consequences: well for one thing, we yanked out that stupid grill thingie and had built a conceret wall with only couple of windows. Second, pulling the right strings with the phone dept. got the phone line burried into the ground coming to house instead of havinvg it dangling on the roof. Third .... until then mom didn't know there were guns in the house .... she was quite upset about it. Bulk of her gussa fell on my brother since I was merely a visitor!

But in the end, it wasn't the guns or guys, only the power of Allah SWT that saved us from any tragic incident.

Re: theft?have you experienced?

This is turning into a horror thread.

well presence Family make you brave. I guess ager main alone hota tu I would have frozen too

Wow you were pretty well prepared for that. Some people would have just panicked.

Re: theft?have you experienced?

  1. some ladies stole my wallet from my bag while i was shopping in karachi like 4 years back , there was around pkr 2000 cash and credit cards in it .
  2. recently we lost most of our valuables ,as they were in a bank locker which was robbed like a month back in karachi ( it was a big ancident and news were published everywhere) but allhamdulillah the insurance just paid us back all the cash ( which equals the valuables)
