The wrong Cross-section

When I was in the US 11 months ago, I met allot of Pakistanis, To my horror I found them to be more hypocritical then the ones I find in Pakistan. They were like we don’t follow the American way of Life although we choose this country for our living and financial gains

We want our children to be brought up in a Muslim environment, although they follow allot of wrong things at school and the society, but we can isolate them from all this, because we want to live in America and enjoy its freedom, and impose our ideas on them” How hypocritical can that sound to you ???

The other thing was how morally crass the Pakistani people living in the US were, as they lived in USA they had that idea of living life to the fullest, fulfilling your utmost dreams, but simultaneously they kept up with the Pakistani rhetoric, just to be accepted on both fronts.

I found it really sad….

Re: The wrong Cross-section

Pakoray yar when you will have children of your own, come back and comment on this.

Re: The wrong Cross-section

I am excludng people that I met in San Francisco, cause I dint make this call observing them. :)

Re: The wrong Cross-section

who the hell are you, MMh , your real nick? cause u sound like CMH.

Re: The wrong Cross-section

how long did u stay and how many people did u meet?

Re: The wrong Cross-section

I don't understand your complaint. Maybe they aren't being hypocrites...perhaps you just don't know what you're talking about...

Re: The wrong Cross-section

I think pakora raises a very poignant point.

If we believe that USA is good enough for us to live and enjoy the successful society then why are we so afraid of raising our next generation with like moral values. I would rather have a child raised up as a good American kid than some scrupulous Pakistani ghetto ghunda.

Re: The wrong Cross-section

That’s not necessary for a person who has a wild and an open imagination, Who can turn this into a good perception of people he meets.

Re: The wrong Cross-section

pakoray yeah i recall the type of people u were staying with cheapskates who could nto even take u to a proper restaurant. My advise when u move to US, try to move about in a different social circle :)

Re: The wrong Cross-section

Thanks FG, Personally I said the same thing to a person very close to me( but he was like, " No!! I can be an atheist" But I want my children to be Muslims...?)

Re: The wrong Cross-section

good point, but even then, I doubt even sensible americans want to raise their kids like ghetto gang types..
so its not just a diff between a pakistani ghetto ghunda or a good american kid, you have american ghetto ghundas as well, and druggies and all.

I think all parents, well most parents want their kids to be proper, civilized, law abiding, respectful, etc etc. and when morals and values come into play, I dont think thre are many parents comfortable with their kids drinking, sleeping around or doing drugs, so when pakistani-american parents want to instill the same in their kids I see no problem. the issue occurs when they go overboard, which is ridiculous but it happens although it is not as widespread as our resident expert on the contemporary pakistani-american experience phenomenon, i.e. pakora, thinks that it is.

Re: The wrong Cross-section

Hhahahahah

Sorry this time to say that the cheapskates were the people who knew I was in the US and still dint meet me, although I was paying my way to meet Them, An American, who knows nothing about the Muslims/Pakistanis meets me,feeds me, and keeps me in his house ?What do I gather from that???

Re: The wrong Cross-section

Mr. F, I agree with what you are saying. What pisses me off are those parents who would discourage their children to befriend Americans but would be quite happy at the prospect of them mingling with idiot desi friends. Just because someone has a white skin and blonde hair doesn't make him or her a beer binge drinking pot smoking cocaine snorting wild sex beast.

Re: The wrong Cross-section

No one is talking about the ghettos' whether Pakistan’s or America, or no one is talking about alcohol its your mind that is playing with you fraudz.

Re: The wrong Cross-section

dunno wo you are referring to, You did not tell anyone you will be in US or whether they would be around, or occupied with a family thing or anything. I recall you just announcing that you are in US.

so who were you paying your way to meet and did not meet you?

PS: maybe those people did not meet you not because they are cheap, but mayeb they just dont like you.

Re: The wrong Cross-section

yeah that is just idiotic.

Re: The wrong Cross-section

There are pros and cons of living in any country. There are good and bad things about living in the States. There is nothing wrong with keeping the goods and avoiding the bads. There is nothing wrong about exercising the right of being who you are. You don't need to blend in. You don't have to raise your kid like another white christian american. You can still enjoy the goodies while keeping your individuality. There are minorities in any society. They are not all hypocrites.

Re: The wrong Cross-section

yeah but your wishy washy al enveloping generalization was not really accomplishing anything except just maybe allowing you to vent. put some parameters around it, qualify your own sentences, nothing can be gained from reading your gems which are not saying anything. Its as if there is one pakistani culture and one american culture and two completely mutually exclusive value sets?

Re: The wrong Cross-section

just read what you have written, and a bell MIGHT ring?

Re: The wrong Cross-section

just wrong perception my friend. Thats all it is.
