The US Foriegn Service

Re: The US Foriegn Service

Ok, all, wish him luck on the test then :) If it is like any other civil service exam, isn't there a fee? Consider that his donation to the US govt.

I think we all know how the background check on himself, friends and family will go, so why all the brouhaha about his being hired? I wouldn't worry about that.

Re: The US Foriegn Service

CM,

I know 3 people who were in a similar position like yours. Two of them were Muslims, one of Indian origin. All of them are second-generation American.

One guy joined USFS with idealistic expectations. He worked for 4 years, quit and now works for a financial concern.

Another guy, who is a Muslim, joined just to get work-ex in diplomacy. He is now in the Middle East, working for a inter-Islamic govt agency.

The third guy, an Indian origin Muslim ended up hating the whole experience.

I'm told its a massive bureacucracy and there are many niches you can enter and do your own thing, if you are not career minded. But if you want to move up fast, you need Kissingerian morals.

Take that FWIW.

Re: The US Foriegn Service

I've just found out that I have the unique opportunity to be the only Christian-American vendor allowed to apply for a concessions licence in Mecca during next year's Hajj.

My booth will be staffed by girls dressed like Daisy Duke and I'm thinking baby-back ribs, hot dogs and cold beer-it's hotter than a mo-fo there, boy! Bibles will be offered free of charge. Yee-f-ing-hah! The Mecca city-council who are encouraging me to apply, say that if it goes well, we can expand in the coming years. I think they are in bed with some Iowa pork producers as well as Anheuser-Busch.

You guys think I should go for it? I'm a little concerned about profiting from such a repressive regime that fosters a lot of anti-American and terrorist sentiment, but I'm thinkin' this could be one helluv an opportunity-ya know for me.

Re: The US Foriegn Service

Storch,

I have looked back at more than a few posts. Here are some ripe ones from less than two months ago:

"Now that is rich. Do to US subsidies on Agriculture on average 30 people die in the cotton producing countries in Africa. The US subsidies on Sugar constitute a good 20 people. Not to mention that the US is in a bigger agriculture war with the EU where it has forced countries in Africa struck by famine to return food sent by the EU and instead take american grown food otherwise Aid will be cut off.

It amazing how opinions are ignorant of the true facts and realities of the world. “Americans” live in a bubble."

So we folk who live in a bubble and regularly kill people with our trade policies should now give him a job.

"A quick question about Iraq and Afghanistan since when did it become right to violate international law? Secondly did the People of these countries request the US to attack? If so show it to me. These actions were inviolation of the UN, International Law and any moral code set out by man kind since the dawn of time. Heck even Westphilia said what the US did was wrong.

Generous nature? Shall we discuss subsidies? Or the fact that the US dumps enough food in to the ocean to feed half of starving africa?"

We act outside of International Law and starve Africa!

“And people support the US devoid of any logical reasons. But its good to see 50% of the US population is not a bunch of red neck hicks or immigrants selling their soul for a visa.”

Or a job apparently. And he has such respect for the American people!

“AIDS is an excellent example. It is called the Essential medicines issue at the WTO. In December 2002 the WTO and all its members had finally come up with a document which would allow generic durgs to be manufactured to save human lives. The US did not sign. Rather it said it would not even look at it. As the WTO works on reverse consensus, the document was never adopted. The US helps Africa a great deal by making sure cheap drugs for HIV/AIDS are not available. But instead allow US companies to charge inflated prices to dying africans.”

We also are withholding medicines from dying Africans! Why would one want a job with such devils?

"Nah OG i am incharge of NAMA and Textiles. OG personal insults aside which your post is full of please counter the facts. You can comment on my life all you want. Question is can you disprove what i have said?

My point? To make it very simple, the US is not the moralistic entity the american population believes it to be. Rather the US govt follows national interest which is not at all moralistic. That of course is a gripe."

And apparently he is not really “Incharge” of NAMA and textiles, but somewhat unemployed, with gripes.

Sorry folks, people with these views should not take the money of American citizens to represent them, no matter how desperate they are for employment.

Read on, and check my facts.

Re: The US Foriegn Service

Disagreeing with policies and having strong opinions about them doesn't disqualify CM. The fact is opposition leads to the creation of better policies. The 'you are either with us or agaist us' does not work on a global scale.

Re: The US Foriegn Service

I believe that Pakistan should give back Kashmir to India. That all references to Islam should be dropped from all laws in Pakistan. AQ Khan should be condemned to death for being the worst proliferator in the last 30 years, and that the Pakistani government is a major cause for terrorism in the world by tacitly allowing radical Islamic types to spread hate. And that Paksitan should pay billions in reparations to "East Pakisitan" for the atrocities committed in 1971.

I apply for the Pakistani Foreign Service next week, and will make ambassador soon because I am 22 years old and smarter than everybody in Pakistan.

OK?

Foreign Service represents the people of the country. Don't you think the Paksitani people should be tolerant of me and hire me immediately?

Re: The US Foriegn Service

I don't know about hiring you immediately bit, but there are tons of ppl in Pakistan who have these views, and I am pretty sure many of them are already in foreign service. More over, I suspect that we actually had some Prime Ministers with very similar views. Beat that!

Anyway, the point of the thread was how will a muslim-Pakistani employed by USFS will be perceived by other people. You guys have made it way too personal in your rage to point fingers at a particular person. Can't you step back and give a more rational and general opinion about the topic, and forget CM for a minute?

Re: The US Foriegn Service

^ there are tons of muslims that work for gov't. What is the big whup...after the screening they have to endure, like everyone else..anyone that is not weapons grade will get sifted out.

if muslims have a problem..fk'em CM, you go for it boy!!!!

Re: The US Foriegn Service

Heck OhioGuy. I’m having a hard time being tolerant of you and I like you !!! Why should you expect miracles from the Pakistani people?

Given your stated beliefs, if you give a big :k: every time some young Pakistani soldier gets killed at the LOC, you will match CM for chutzpah if you apply for the Pakistani Foreign Service. Of course, the trough from which you will be feeding is pretty small compared to the one CM aspires to. If the trough was big and deep enough in Pakistan, CM surely would have sought his entry level position there don’t you think?

I tried that Faisal and you accused me of hoping for CM’s death.

Re: The US Foriegn Service

Its not about a visa nor is it about me staying at OG's place.....its about justice, IMHO CM is out of line....If we turn the tables and someone who is not originally a pakistani would go and piss about on pakistans policies and furthermore come on a BB and say I want to join Pakistan's foreign service I would be MUCH RUDE AND HARSH then what OG & MV put together.......

CM always put yourself in others shoes before you start pontificating .....

Re: The US Foriegn Service

Plus you’re Indian…

Re: The US Foriegn Service

Hold on right there. So your main gripe is that if someone is not a US citizen, he/she should not be in US Foreign Service. Well, what if that someone is actually a US citizen (by birth). Your point is then moot.

And actually I got a chuckle after reading your post. Have you forgotten Moin Qureshi and Shaukat Aziz. Foreign service is chicken feed, sir ji.. we have folks become Pakistan’s prime ministers who had spent their entire lives serving in the US, and probably not even Pakistani citizens, who came back and start pontificating to the Pakistanis on how we should be living our lives. I am sure you were/are suitably outraged at their audacity.

Re: The US Foriegn Service

Back to UTDs question though. There is a time and a place for dissent. That time and place in the US is in the elected bodies. The president and the congress represent the American people. The State department EXECUTES the policy. Now, you can hold contrary views as an employee of the state department, but you cannot let your personal views interfer with the execution of your job. If your personal beliefs interfere with your ability to perform a job, then you ask to be removed from the job. CM could not hold a job, as he disagrees with every frikkin thing the US does!

Every employer has the right to some basic loyalty. At the State Department such sensitive matters are considered that security is also a consideration. An employee who does not have at least some affinity with the American system and the American people represents a much higher than accepable security risk. This would be the same for any country on earth.

I have never heard the guy utter a decent word about the United States Government. Why does he think that he would be so irreplacable that he would be hired? He would be a security risk of the highest order.

And Stu, I am a jew, so I also hate Pakistan for not recognizing Israel. I should be the Foreign Minister eh? I have a lot in common with the Pakistani people and can show them all of their errors. I also demand double the normal pay because my dad was important.......

Re: The US Foriegn Service

Faisal, shaukat aziz doesn't jump up and down with joy when two Paki soldiers get it in balochistan.

Re: The US Foriegn Service

He is 56. Give him some credit.

Re: The US Foriegn Service

Plus, you don’t know his nick, either :dixsi:

Re: The US Foriegn Service

^ that is the point Faisal. The whole initial thread is stupid. 22 yr olds are only good for two things...making copies and making coffee..

Re: The US Foriegn Service

The perfect job for CM would be to run focus groups around the world for the State Department. He could discover and categorize all of the reasons Americans are hated around the world. He would be excellent at this because he would agree with every word. Then he could write a big report.

Or, we could save his salary and watch Al-Jazeera, and read Fisk…

Whip me mistress, I am an American, and I am baaaaddddd…

Oh, and one final thing about dissent. Here is what the US State department says about Foreign Service Officers and dissent:

"Q. Does the system tolerate dissent?

A. As public servants, Foreign Service Officers must publicly defend U.S. government policy, despite personal reservations. There is an internal channel through which an employee may present dissenting views on specific foreign policy issues. If an officer cannot publicly defend official U.S. policy, he or she has the option to resign."
http://careers.state.gov/officer/faqs/index.html

Think CM could do this with a straight face?

Re: The US Foriegn Service

I knew there must have been a reason that I liked you. If you get tired of watching OhioGuy pick at his toenails, come to Las Vegas for a few days. I’ll make sure they have the nicest bed reserved for you at the shelter. I’ll even spring for a buffet lunch. (Dinner is an extra buck or two and is out of the question).

OG: Did you say your father was “impotent” and that’s why your pay should be doubled? Did your father get a new suit of clothes too so that he could dress impotent?
