The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

In a free society you cannot control action of individuals. What someone puts up on the internet in an individual capacity the US govt is not responsible for it. It is the price of freedom a concept that is alien to most Muslims.

people who want to limit Muslim immigration are typically far right nut jobs, who think Halal meat is a conspiracy to undermine democracy. No sense paying any heed to them. If this becomes the predominant opinion, then sorry, that simply means the bulk of society have become far right nut jobs. And if free speech is such a paramount value, movies like this don't really promote the cause. If anything, it shows how hollow and vapid it's become if this is what it is producing...

I don't support right wing groups, but you cannot deny that they have point. Out of all immigrants in the west Muslims have hard time integrating into western society, and understanding what west stands for.

arab world is hundreds of years away from civilized world where tolerance is a good thing.

At times it feels like they are better off with dictators.

Kashmir Mufti asks US citizens to leave Kashmir
SRINAGAR: The top clergyman in Srinagar, Mufti Azam Bashiruddin, on Thursday asked US citizens to leave the Kashmir valley immediately to avoid public wrath in the wake of video clips on the web that disparage Prophet Mohammed.

Speaking to the TOI, the Mufti, the self-appointed chief justice of the ‘shariat’ (Islamic) court in Kashmir, asked people to observe complete strike on Friday in protest against the film.

“I strongly condemn the act and appeal to Kashmiris to register their protest against the film and even attack US citizens if they are seen anywhere in the Valley from tomorrow,” the Mufti Azam said.

Interestingly, the Mufti only recently nominated his son Nasirul Islam as his successor. Nasirul, too, visited the US in January this year for about a month, a sources told the ToI.

The Jammu & Kashmir government, too, strongly denounced the act of desecration saying such acts are aimed at causing discord among the people of different faiths.

The official spokesman said, “Such a video causes great anguish among the peace loving people. Posting such clips on social media sites is not acceptable. The government is making every effort to ensure that such blasphemous clips are blocked and removed from the cyberspace.”

**Protest in Kashmir against anti-Islam film

SRINAGAR**: Protests against the controversial anti-Islam film, made in the US, rocked several parts of Kashmir on Friday but there was no violence reported from anywhere in the Valley even as authorities placed top separatist leaders under preventive detention to maintain law and order.

Protests were held after Friday congregational prayers outside many mosques and shrines in the Valley against the blasphemous video, uploaded on social networking site Youtube recently, officials said.
Shouting slogans against the filmmaker, hundreds of protesters took to streets in Maisuma, Budshah chowk, Court Road, Lal Chowk and Jamia Masjid areas, police said.
Meanwhile, the Imams (priests) during sermons in the mosques appealed to people not to indulge in vandalism of public property while they protest against the blasphemy.
"It is our right to protest against this heinous act aimed at hurting the sentiments of the Muslims. However, we should not indulge in vandalism as we will causing harm to our own property. We shall remain peaceful," said a priest at a mosque in Lal Chowk area.
Heeding to the advice of the Imams, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
Barring a minor stone-pelting incident at Red Cross Road near Lal Chowk, the situation across the Valley so far was peaceful, police said.
Earlier in the day, police put the entire top brass of the separatist groups including chairmen of both faction of Hurriyat Conference - Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik in preventive detention to maintain law and order.
Cutting across ideological divide, all political parties have condemned the video.
Ruling National Conference said people who indulge in such acts represent a radical mindset hell bent upon vitiating peaceful atmosphere across the world.
CPM state secretary M Y Tarigami condemned the video, saying such incidents push humanity towards the brink of clash between civilisations.
"There has been enough bloodshed around the world and we need efforts to promote peace and amity. Such things will not help in this direction," Tarigami said, adding that peace across the globe can be achieved only through mutual respect between people professing various faiths.

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

I have usually been indifferent w.r.t Hilary Clinton. But I agree with what she said ...

"When Christians are subject to insults to their faith, and that certainly happens, we expect them not to resort to violence. When Hindus or Buddhists are subjected to insults to their faiths, and that also certainly happens, we expect them not to resort to violence," said Clinton. "The same goes for all faiths, including Islam."
"I so strongly believe that the great religions of the world are stronger than any insults. They have withstood offense for centuries," said Clinton."Refraining from violence, then, is not a sign of weakness in one's faith; it is absolutely the opposite, a sign that one's faith is unshakable."

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

According to the news article the producer of the movie wanted to achieve that, anyways let's hope for the best.

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

protest is good thing. kashmiris have managed to register their protest without resorting to violence. its their right and they should use it. this protest will be heard more than the violent protests going on else where.

however asking americans to leave the state is not right. neither it is their right nor it is a good decision. hope more sanity prevails.

**
CHENNAI**: Muslim protesters pelted stones and footwear at the US consulate in Chennai on Friday. A rally protesting the depiction of Prophet Mohammed in a movie turned violent near the consulate. Window panes of the inquiry counter and a police booth near the entrance of the consulate were damaged. Police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the protesters. Twenty-five people suffered minor injuries.

And now Sudan…
Sudan protesters set fire to German embassy - Yahoo! News

Killing Paul to take revenge for Peter’s action. This is certainly not what Islam says. Why do all these nutjobs insist on using Islam as a backdrop for their rubbish? God help us. Looks like Arab spring is turning into an Arab fall.

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

Please ask the same question to many Pakistani members who have been far more critical towards "Muslim community in Pakistan".

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

Please do give such examples..... you are right though, but its not just Americans but politicians from all countries.

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

It's hard to say. He is a war time president, after all. But American behavior in Pakistan is at an all time low under his watch, with the out right lies surrounding Raymond S, the drone strikes, etc.

Time will tell if this administration will either side step the Libyan government, even though they seem very much inclined to help and bring people to Justice, or prop them up.

Having said that, I am surpised to see how easy it is for one moran to kick up a strom like this (remember WW-I started with killing of an Archduke). On the other hand, I hope more and more such nonsense may make Muslims see the ploy behind such acts and not go berserk, every time this happens.
[/QUOTE]

In many ways, this is manufactured protest...but it's useless to not realize how emotive this issue is.

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

Sudan was not an Arab Spring country.

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

This would have been incredibly profound if not for American bombing campaigns and wars the world over. People who engage in violence, if not indulge in it, have no right to criticize others who's violence for the most part has been but vandalism.

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

I'm afraid you're talking pasts me, possibly to the rest of the forum. Responsibility of the US is not an issue, but if the people who made this film had the intent to foster unrest, and if so are they accountable under law? Free speech does not save one from liability for such things. Once can be coy and suggest that "religious extremism" is the cause of the unrest, the movie is mere speech. That runs very thin, and given the stated intent behind the film, is simply a lie.

No one is expecting America to alter it's stance on Free speech. Rather, the point is, couching this episode as a simple case of free speech and whacky people who are merely offended is disingenuous.

Laws. If you want to impose something on citizens, be it a respect for ideals or whatever, then legislate it. Otherwise such complaints fly in the face of the very freedom that these supposed ungrateful immigrants are meant to absorb and understand.

Now, when such people who question Muslim immigration for their limited support for Free Speech, perhaps they can take the time to lecture the grieving family of dead soldiers who were harassed by anti-war protesters on how free speech is much more important than their "feelings".

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

Free speech means free speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and by many state constitutions and state and federal laws.
Criticism of the government and advocacy of unpopular ideas that people may find distasteful or against public policy are almost always permitted.

I have seen countless TV shows/movies in US in which Jesus is mocked as well as other religions...and everyone is mature enough and their faith strong enough not to be offended.

It is a concept that is hard for citizens of 3rd world countries to understand, especially in muslim countries where people never had the opportunity to think critically & rationally for themselves.....they always had others do the thinking for themselves.

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

I don't think all politicians do it. Some never compromise on principles they adhere to. Whether right or wrong. For example, Castro, Khomeini.
But Americans don't know morality, just like most other politicians. Hence they would work with al Qaeda, if it suits them some way. This is important to point out because Americans otherwise love to call themselves the leader of FREE world, and their country a sort of bastion of liberty and morality.

It's all a lie. Americans are no different from others. Mostly worst than others.

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

I do not mean all politicians are like that, but there are politicians from all countries and walks of life who are that way. The US do have their faults but they are highlighted because their media is quite free to report the mistakes. Politicans from other countries like India and Pakistan also have similar traits but through corruption and control manage to hide it.

Re: The US diplomatic missions attacked in Egypt and Libya

There is a very fine line.. I dont think Americans seeing Angry faces on their tv will view them as peaceful regardless of whether or not they burn an embassy, burn a flag, or burn nothing.

In the end, the KASHMIRI part of "Kashmiri Muslim" will be ignored and they will lump them together with every other Muslim everywhere.
