The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

This is absolute deception. He is a bonafide resident of Punjab with constituency and power-base in Punjab. No amount of excuses can hide this fact.

True , when the forces that be ordered him to dismiss…

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

Do a google on LEGHARI, and you will find that they are an ethnic Balochi tribe, and you will also be surprised to learn that most of Farooq Legahri's family lands lie within Balochistan, not Punjab.

Go to some military site, and you will discover that most of the Corps Commanders of the Pakistan Army are not even Punjabi, because especially since 1999 a majority are actually Mohajirs.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

They are a powerful Punjab based Punjabi media tycons. At occasions, they were pitched against other news group like Dawn. They even tried to ouroot Frontier Post which had limited circulation in NWFP.

They would have out-weighed Dawn but this Harun family is very well-entrenched.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman and his later father Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman are Mohajirs from Hyderabad-Deccan, and the Jang/News and Geo are based in Karachi.

****My father Syed Abdul Hafiz, who founded the United Press of Pakistan News Service in Karachi late in 1949, and enjoyed the Jang’s support as a subscriber, had met Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman Sahib a few times in New Delhi between 1945 and early 1947 during his visits there from Hyderabad Deccan with the Hyderabad State Delegation that went to negotiate the Muslim-ruled State’s future with the British Indian Government. Himself a veteran journalist, Hafiz considered Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman a high calibre journalist, an excellent reporter and a dynamic newspaper publisher and editor.](http://www.jang.com.pk/thenews/spedition/mkr/mir2001.htm#6)

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

Where does this statement state that Mir Jamilu Rahman was a Muhajir?

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

Jamil-ur-Rehman is the son of the late Khalil-ur-Rehman, and if you had read the link I had attached, then you would have noted this part.

Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman, one of the leading pioneers of Pakistani journalism, had almost similar objectives when he transplanted his young newspaper creation, the Daily Jang, from New Delhi in India to Karachi in Pakistan to greet the new Muslim State on its birth on August 14, 1947.

Bhai, you can continue to claim as much as you want that they and their papers are Punjabi, but everyone with the correct historical knowledge knows the truth.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

No where in the the descriptions you give is it said he was a Muhajir. OK, this can be established.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

While I agree Bengalis suffered after the mid 50's in Pakistan..they were extremely influential in the late 40's and early 50's. In fact Pakistan was effectively a Mohajir-Bengali-Pathan (not neccessarily pashtun ) alliance for a space of 10 years..with the rise of the military with foreign aid ..in the mid 50's and the strength of religo-political groups in Punjab ..Punjab became ascendant. Several factors reflect that..the trigger for Khawaja Nazimuddins dismissal was the declaration of martial law in Punjab ..similarly tyhe use of military force in Lahore during the PNA agitation effectively ended Bhuttos government..Army officers refused to fire on civilians..(ironic since the Army had not shown similar restraint against the Baloch) ..even in the 90's the PPP lost out twice because of problems in Punjab..firstly because of Nawaz Sharif, secondly because of Mian Manzoor Watoo.

Just a case in point, using Junejo, Jamali, Jatoi, Mazari as examples of representing smaller provinces is a bit of a joke..they were tokens..with effectively no power. I think nobody doubts that Punjab by virtue of population is a decisive factor in Pakistan (a plurality if not a majority if you take in account Seriaki speakers), however when its representation is disproportionate and its power is unchecked through Democratic process is what causes all the problems.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

Someone who was born in the Princely State of Hyderbad-Deccan is hardly a Punjabi as you claimed. Plus he started the Jang in New Delhi, India, and then moved it to Karachi in 1947, and not Punjab as you falsely stated.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

Musharaf is a lame duck? And if the ruler of the state is a lame duck controlled by Punjabis… Then who prey tell, are these all powerful Punjabis specificaly who rule the roost?

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

The point is, that regardless of where Legharis power base is, he is a Balochi in the halls of power. If Punjabis were so prejudice towards others, then Leghari wouldnt have had a power base in Pubnjab as you claim.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

^^^ fully agreed!

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

^ he is ethnically Baloch..personally mutli lingual..and very much an establishment person..he was a csp officer in the 1970's..Pakistans establishment is not solely Punjab..but it is Punjab dominated disproportionately. Mnay of the big Sardars in Balochistan, Waderas in Sindh and the Seraiki belt and robber barons of NWFP are very supportive of the system..because they benefit from the few crumbs.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

As I stated earlier the Leghari tribal lands are mainly in Balochistan, even if the base of the ethnically Baloch/Pasthun Farooq Leghari is in far southwestern Punjab (bordering Balochistan again). You will find the Leghari’s in all four provinces, because as with many other cases, provincial boundaries do not necessarily correspond with ethnic correlations on the ground.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

Well politically the Legharis influence is restricted to Punjab..Dera Ghazi Khan in particular..the usage of ethnic origins as the basis for defining a group is flawed...there are many pople of pathan descent who are die hard supporters of the MQM..similarly the present Governor of Balouchistan claims to be of Baloch origin..despite the fact that his only claim to the area is that his family migrated from there in the time of his grandfather. By strict technical definition Zia was a Mohajir..ZAB was a Mohajir as well..the reality is Zia was an Arian Punjabi who invested eavily in building a base in Punjab..and succeeded.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

^

I am familiar with provincial politics, especially Sindh, and the Leghari's have quite a lot of sway there, as well as Balochistan where the bulk of their lands are. Punjab is big by size and population, but it has not stopped ethnic Balochi's, Kashmiri's, Mohajir and Pathan residents from exercising quite disproportionate influence in state affairs.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

^ a similar statement could be said about NWFP, Baluchistan and Sind..consider in NWFP the hindko speakers have had disproportionate influence..in Baluchistan the migrants increasingly have influenced electoral results..Sindh..well thats quite self evident..I am not aware of the Legharis having electoral influence in Sind..I am aware of Baloch/Influence in the North and West of Sind tho..

There is a distinctive argument between the domination of Punjab and the domination of Punjabis..and I have been very careful with how I have worded that...Pakistans ruling establishment is Punjab dominated..the bulk of it's recuitment is from the Punjab ..and they are equally capable of attacking Punjabis who oppose them (Nawaz Sharif is an excellent example) ..however that doesn't change the fact that presently they also benefit ..which is in contrast to other ethnic groups.

Re: The Ultimate Losers in Pakistan!

In the last 17 years we have had ethnic Balochi, Pashtun and now Mohajir executive Presidents, and Balochi, Kashmiri, Mohajir and Sindhi Prime ministers. During that period we have also had more than one Mohajir Chief of the Army Staff, and today we have a prepondarance of Mohajir Corp Commanders, plus quite a few ethnic Pashtun Naval Chiefs since '88. We have had Sindhi and Mohajir Chief Justices of the Supreme Court as well, and our Diplonmatic corps of Pakistan is still dominated by Mohajirs. To me hardly represents the dominance of Punjab/Punjabi's but the great success of other groups as well in Pakistan, which we must emphasise as well, which we do too often.

As for the Pakistani economy that is dominated less by Punjab, and more by the Urdu-speaking metropolis of Karachi. Here is a sample of some of the mega-rich companies in Pakistan.

The Jang Group
The House of Habib
The Monnoo Group
The Dewan Group
The Lakson Group
The Dawood Group
The Haroon Family
The Yunus Brothers
Al-Karam Group
The Bawany Group
The Tata Family
The Tabani Family
The Tapal Group
The Dadabhoy Group
Adamjee Group
Kassim Dada

Do those sound Punjabi to anyone?
