The Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Sindh, have busted a network of local Taliban belonging to the Baituallh Mehsud group, who were involved in Sohrab Goth encounter in which two police personnel were killed, while nine others, including an intelligence officer, were injured.
The suspects had taken active part in the post-9/11 Afghan war, besides killing Army and Frontier Constabulary personnel in the tribal areas and stealing NATO supplies.
At a press conference on Saturday at the Central Police Office, Capital City Police Officer (Karachi) Waseem Ahmed said that the Karachi police with the help of intelligence agencies busted the Mehsud’s network and arrested six activists involved in kidnapping for ransom and major robberies in the city.
He said that the arrested militants were involved in the January 15 Sohrab Goth encounter in which the militants had killed two police personnel and injured nine others, including Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) chief Mohammed Farooq Awan.
On a tip-off, the IB and CID teams, in coordination with Karachi police, conducted a raid in Kunwari Colony in Manghopir and after a brief encounter arrested Naek Salam Mehsud, Rehman Mehsud, Farooq Mehsud, Ataullah Mehsud, Javed Punjabi and Habibullah Mehsud. One rocket launcher, three rockets, four Kalashnikovs, two TT pistols and three kilogrammes of hashish were recovered from their possession.
During interrogation, the militants disclosed that they work under Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud and they were sent by him to Karachi to generate funds for the organization. They used to committed major robberies at banks and money changers’ offices, besides kidnapping dignitaries and wealthy people.
Javed Punjabi had been their main player who used to gather information and formulate plans for committing such offences. Rehman Mehsud is the Ameer of Mehsud’s group in Pipri (Balochistan) and he had been operating in Karachi for the past few months.
They further revealed that they were involved in the January 15 Sohrab Goth encounter along with their Ameer Faizullah alias Faiz Mohammed Mehsud, Abdul Wahab Mehsud, Misbah, Azam and Safeer.
They disclosed that Maulvi Misbahullah and Gul Khan were their main commanders who had been committing criminal activities in Karachi along with their accomplices Rehman Khan, Faizullah, Abdul Wahab, Shaheen, Saddam, Azam Mehsud, Inaam Mehsud, Naimat and others. The money generated from such activities, including snatching of oil tankers, was being transferred to their commander Baitullah Mehsud through bank accounts.
They further revealed that they took an active part in the war against the US army in Afghanistan, and later during their stay in Waziristan they had kidnapped and killed a number of Frontier Constabulary and Army personnel. All the arrested militants belong to Azam Warsick and had come to Karachi to generate funds.
Besides, they had been snatching dumpers and oil tankers as well as NATO supplies and shifting the looted material to Baitullah Mehsud through Maulvi Faizullah and Misbahullah. They also used to snatch oil containers supplying oil to NATO forces from Northern Bypass and Super Highway.
The militants disclosed that their men who were injured in the gun-battle with security forces in Waziristan were being brought to Karachi and interior Sindh by a man called Nooran Gul, the medical supervisor of their group. The injured were taken to various hospitals by showing them as the victims of robberies or accidents. They named Maulvi Faizullah who used to supply arms. Further investigation is under way.
I dont understand why its only MQM whining about this and why MQM is going through this TALIBAN-FOBIA or HYSTERIA whatever you want to call it.
Karachi is a lovely city of beautiful people from every nation, language and culture. Yes Mohajirs are in majority, I myself belong to a mohajir family some of whom still support MQM but that doesnt mean we start believing on this crying about the wolf which is no way near a reality. This whining will only extend the gulf between Mohajirs and Pakhtoons and nothing else.
Re: The ‘Talibanization’ of Pakistan's biggest city...
Stop looking at it from the perspective of ethnic dividing lines - that's not going to help anyone.
Instead look at it from the terrorists' point of view - is there an advantage in having active cells running in Karachi?
Of course. They've probably been there for a long time, and I would not be surprised if part of their funding is indeed coming from the robberies that are rampant in Karachi.

Please don't accuse Holy Alliance of MQM/PPP/ANP of any such thing. No way no how! :D
Re: The ‘Talibanization’ of Pakistan's biggest city...
Non-religious political parties have used the same tactics in getting their funding, I agree. However, how does have anything to do with the issue of Taliban and Al Qaeda and other extremist forces infiltrating Karachi?
I don't know if you realize this, but its one thing to get robbed by a bunch of thugs who take the loot and hand it off to Altaf Hussain's fund.
Its another to get robbed by a bunch of bearded thugs who teach your future generation about "Islam", and then furthermore do not let you go to school, do not let you work, do not let you live your own independent life just because you are female, essentially threaten to kill you and your relatives if you speak out against their interpretation of Islam and if you do not cover your face and erase your identity from mankind's history, and threaten to behead you in the middle of a village square and then parade around with your head on a stick chanting Allah-hu-akbar.
I don't know about you, but if I had to pick, I'd take the MQM robbery any day.

Its probably because you haven't suffered at MQM's hands. This "Talibanization" cry only means that innocent Pashtun/Pakhtun are fleeing from Swat/Bajaur/Waziristan and are seeking refuge in Karachi which threatens MQM terrorists' stronghold. To me it doesn't matter whether I get robbed and killed by Taliban or MQM, they are both equally criminal and terrorists. This cry is more of a dakoo crying because he feels his territory might be taken over by another dakoo hence deprived of money/power.
Re: The ‘Talibanization’ of Pakistan's biggest city...
^ And I would not be surprised if that is true, because the MQM party, just like the PPP and PML are no more than major gangs parading around as civilized political parties operating in a "democracy". Their ways of raising funds, their ways of making their political message heard, their way of getting man support, etc is all very gang-based. Get your way by forcing your way on people.
But the fact of the matter is, these parties will not enter your home and kill you because you believe in a certain religion. They will not burn down your school, because they think girls should not be educated and believe that somehow in their dream world of an existence that Muhammed (SAW) actually advocated the jaahilyat of women. They do not see mathematics, and history, and geography, and other beautiful disciplines as haraam, and they don't fear the polio vaccine as being part of some international scheme to infertilize Pakistani people thereby blocking vaccines and allowing children to die of crippling illnesses.
There is a deeper worry here. The secular political parties just want your money. The extremists want your very existence, your mind, and soul all in the entirety.
May Allah save Karachi from these unIslamic criminals.

Police also arrested eight men who were said to be pro-Taliban militants. On the directives of the Sindh government, a survey has been conducted of guesthouses across Karachi and senior police officials have asked for surveillance of these facilities.
to be very frank very are giving these crooks and thugs(taliban) too much of weightage they cant occupy a tiny piece and what they can only do is to kill create a nasty scene and melt away...
taliban controlling karachi no way, they can create a scene but cant control the city for long..
Today there is a blast in Baldia Town kachhi abadi. Police is saying that they found other explosives and arms in the same house. So it looks like people in that house were planning attacks in the city.
Most probably Taliban affiliates.
We saw some episodes of these anti-Islam criminal work in the form of Ashura blast and Paposhnagar blast.
KARACHI: At least four people were killed in an explosion in a house near Babri mosque in Baldia town here on Friday, DIG west Sardar Majeed said.
Majeed also that hand grenades and other weapons were also recovered from the house, DawnNews reported.
Re: The ‘Talibanization’ of Pakistan's biggest city...
MQM affiliates also carry weapons and bombs in their houses, infact their terrorist mafia leader altaf hussain openly urges them to keep arms in their houses... These blasts are totally different from the blasts that the TTP has carried out in other parts of Pakistan.
People who are caught were from Sawat.

According to police the house was occupied by one Riaz Khan who had come to Karachi from Swat about two years back and rented the house in the locality.
Police said that 19 hand grenades, 2 KKs, 2 suicide jackets and KK magazines were recovered from the house while two hand grenades were recovered from the pocket of one of the deceased.
You are being an apologizer of the terrorist and trying to hide their evil acts against Pakistani Muslims.
Please consider the good of Pakistan in front of everything else. And the good of Pakistan is getting rid of the enemies who are threatening the security and economy of Pakistan.
It is now clear that Taliban are committing crimes in Karachi to fund their anti-Islam activities in NWFP. After the capture of 6 terrorists belonging to Baitullah Mehsud's group from Orangi Town, MQM had this to say:
ww.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2009\02\15\story_15-2-2009_pg12_9
Oh don't tell me what MQM said. Karachi's real enemy is not Talian but MQM. These Laloo Khenti Ghundas have been in Karachi as cancer, if Taliban collected funds in Karachi then it concerns MQM as that's their right to collect this fund?
People who are caught were from Sawat. You are being an apologizer of the terrorist and trying to hide their evil acts against Pakistani Muslims.

I bet you fancy Taliban too much, even see them in your dreams?
Well, I don't think Taliban are the actual enemies of Pakistan. They are reaction forces turned to be evil. The actual enemy of Pakistan is the political parties that come to power through conspiracies with Americans and Indians against Pakistan e.g Pakistan People's Party, army generals that get bribes from Americans and work against the interest of Pakistan as Gen. Musharraf.
Pakistani government and army have been involved in state terrorism against the innocent people of Afghanistan and Pakistan. They kill less Taliban but more civilians and that's the root cause of reaction forces like Taliban.
What you do is close your eyes from the truth because you hate Taliban as they are against your faith? I'm also against Taliban because of what they do in Pakistan but I try my best to be truthful. I support all people who are tyrannised regardless of their religious and political adherence.
Re: The ‘Talibanization’ of Pakistan's biggest city...
In short, people who were killed and others who were captured with weapons and explosives were from Sawat. They were not MQM members.
Anyone who does not consider Taliban an enemy of Pakistan, even after their massacre of thousands of innocent people, is an enemy of Pakistan himself.
Re: The ‘Talibanization’ of Pakistan's biggest city...
Many people in Pakistan have ammunition even the members of the so-called liberal leaning MQM, ANP, PPP. In Pakistan its almost a fashion accessory having all these weapons.
As for whose worse Taliban or MQM? They have both murdered thousands of Pakistani civlilians.

Exactly!
Such murderous people are part of religious extremists including Sipah-e-Sahaba and Jafria Alliance/Sipah-e-Mohammad.
