A doctor has been arrested on charges of blasphemy in Hyderabad, police said on Sunday.
Naushad Valiyani was detained on Friday following a complaint by a medical representative who visited the doctor in the city of Hyderabad.
“The arrest was made after the complainant told the police that Valiyani threw his business card, which had his full name, Muhammad Faizan, in a dustbin during a visit to his clinic,” regional police chief Mushtaq Shah told AFP.
“Faizan accused Valiyani of committing blasphemy and asked police to register a case against the doctor.”

KARACHI: A doctor has been arrested on charges of blasphemy in Hyderabad, police said on Sunday.
Shah said the issue had been resolved after Valiyani, a member of the Ismaili community apologised but local religious leaders intervened and pressed for action.
“Valiyani had assured Faizan that he did not mean to insult the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) by throwing the visiting card in the dustbin,” Shah said, adding that the police had registered a case under the Blasphemy Act.
A court last month had sentenced to death Aasia Bibi, a Christian mother-of-five found guilty of blasphemy. The government attempted to pardon Bibi after an international outcry over the case, but the Lahore Hight Court prevented it from granting her a swift pardon.
Most of those convicted of blasphemy in Pakistan have their sentences overturned or commuted on appeal through the courts.
The country has yet to execute anyone for blasphemy, but the case has highlighted a controversial law which rights activists say encourages extremism.
I'm not sure if it is true, but if it is, then this is the height of stupidity. Although the arrest was undoubtedly because of political pressure. Blasphemy Law is commonly used to settle personal grievances against non-Muslims in Pakistan.
^ theres more stupid laws in America too... but laws are laws.
I see nobody making fun of Floridas laws on taking Alligators to malls on sunday or about not sharing a bathtub with a donkey in Texas... but do we hear anyone lampooning anyone over them...
Theres still a law in England that if you see a scotsman climbing the walls of York after dark you can shoot him.... it still stands though nobody has fired any shots with a longbow recently.
Leave Pakistans blasphemy law alone... it's there for a reason just like all the other laws. Respect says it all.
If people learned respect there would be no need for laws to enforce the matter and every stray cow would not lead to a bloodfued would it....

And when was the last time those laws were reinforced?
With people like you, one could consider the statement to be valid to an extent.
This is coming from someone who lives in USA...why don't you move back to Pakistan and then toss a business card with someone named Muhammed and when you get charged with blasphemy......maybe then you might change your mind

Let me ask u something..dont some of the wedding invitation have verses from Quran? What happens to those invitation cards, they get tossed in garbage , dont they? Is that blasphemy? Should not all of them invitees be arrested?
And when was the last time those laws were reinforced?
Lol. By "Reinforced" you must mean that the said laws had been enforced, and then reinforced as a follow up?!? So they actually 1 up'ed the Pakistanis in this!
But seriously, your right. This is rather stupid all in all.
This is coming from someone who lives in USA...why don't you move back to Pakistan and then toss a business card with someone named Muhammed and when you get charged with blasphemy......maybe then you might change your mind
What does it have to do with me living in US? Here in US if someone gets burnt by 'coffee' they suit the sellers for not telling that its hot, I mean come on, how stupid do you have to be? There are tons of other cases, does it make US as stupidest country ever? NO. Similarly if some idiot decides to abuse law to his favor doesn't mean we throw away our brain.

Because if Pakistan were so great, you would be living there and not praising Pakistan's greatness by living half way around the world.
As for Hot Coffee, they can sue because its a free country and almost all those cases get tossed out of court and person gets counter-sued.
But in Pakistan, this poor person will be executed under the terrorist blasphemy laws. The fact that makes Pakistan so stupid is no one willing to stand up to this thuggish law and infact there are rallies to support this stupidity.
Sorry but when someone tosses a business card with someone who has a religious name and gets charged with blasphemy and people come out and support those charges, then the country and its people are just plain stupid.
Only in the most stupidest country on the Planet, Pakistan
With due respect, you are being an IDIOT.
Some moron is misusing a law to take revenge from the doctor. There is a reason why everyone is criticising the arrest and law in general.
Average Pakistanis do find this law a ridiclous and hence all the criticism.
