the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

OK I am just as confused now as I was when I started looking for these things..

so this weekend I tried quite a few car seats, travel systems, and i Hav figured that as much as I love the chicco keyfit 30 car seat (based on safety, appearance etc), I hate the stroller that comes with it in a travel system! It’s just too bulky for me!

We kind of liked Graco’s strollers but didnt like their car seats- probably because I was comparing them with chicco!

We thought safety 1st was a good deal but it has its own design faults especially with the mechanis for reclining and upright position.. you have to bend, pull a string and what not.. didn’t like it!

Now, I believe my choice is pretty much limited as in buy car seat and stroller separately.. yes it may not be cost effective but at least I will have two items that I will like!

car seat is chicco keyfit30.. now I need ideas for a light weight stroller.. I checked UPPAbaby G-lite but it doesnt recline.. thats a big con in my opinion.. parents with babies will probably know better so please share your opinion!

Besides that I will probably not use stroller until the baby is almost six months old!

Anyway, please share your opinion and pros n cons for not having a travel system (other than the fact that it’s easier to transfer baby while they are asleep) and also any recommendations for light weight yet not super expensive strollers in the market!

Thanks

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

I bought Graco car seat with Graco frame... snap n go kinda thing. I didn't buy a stroller. I didn't see the need to buy a travel system. I plan to purchase a light weight stroller when my kiddo is able to sit.

You can purchase the car seat and get a frame too. Its smaller and much easier to close/open, no bulkiness. I didn't get a travel system stroller at all. I have no stroller at this point. Oh and I know that I want Mclaren for light weight stroller. I would want to get the one that reclines all the way. There are few Mclaren stores in NYC that i'll go see. I still have more than 2 months before my baby is 6 months.

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

looks like we are both in pretty much the same boat.. too bad they don;t have car seat frames for chicco keyfit 30 but honestly I dont see that as a problem.. probably I just dont have experience or the fact that I hardly ever go out without my husband and am hoping that he will be carrying the car seat everywhere :-D

I was also checking the reviews for Maclaren and I cant decide which one is the best.. have you started doing your research? my baby isn't here yet so probably I will just be following you around and waiting for your review.. for now I dont plan to buy a stroller!!

Did you buy a baby bjorn or something similar?

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

I have the chicco travel system and really like it. I thought the stroller would be bulky but in everyday use now I don't find it bothers me.....I think maybe because the whole travel system is so easy to use. In my experience I needed a stroller right from the beg......we would take our son out for walks and he was too young for a snuggly.

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

Oh and I 've also heard good things about the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP...

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

Ramsha.. was your baby born in Summer? ours is going to be a winter baby so I dun think we will be taking our lil one out so that gives us enough time to shop for stroller that is not necessarily for new borns!

Peg Perego is kin dof out of out of our budget.. I dun think I want to spend more than $200 on a stroller unless and until I am total out of luck and may end up spending more!

the more I read the reviews, the more confused I get.. I shoud be at work today!!!

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

Our son was born in the winter and we took him out starting the 3rd week.

chicco makes a light weight stroller as well…reviwes are fine but its best to go to a place that has the strollers / car seats on display and play around with a few…you want to find something thats really easy to use as wellas durable.

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

quinny stroller n maxi cose car seat u can fix maxi cosi in quinny frame best part is they r v handy n occupy v less space :)

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

oh ok... we went to three Babies R us this weekend and tried the travel systems.. like I said, chicco was too bukly for me so I am staying away from it (though I am definitely going for the car seat) I didnt try many strollers though so probably that's next..Since we travel around a lot, I want a lightweight stroller that's a lil more than just the umberella stroller.. I also dont want to buy that additional umberella stroller for planes and such later.. gosh who knew shopping for s stroller will take up so many days amd we may not even have it when the baby arrives. :D

devilish.. let me check it out.. I know the car seat that I want.. its the stroller that I am looking for :-)

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

we just started using our stroller with the Bean and its car seat adaptor this week, and i gotta say, i do love it. the convenience of transferring baby from car to stroller without waking him up is worth the money we spent on the stroller. don't underestimate that aspect, i would advise. you'll have dr's appts with him, and you'll also for sure want to go out sooner than 6 months, even if its a stroll around the block or inside a mall to get a change of pace. is there a reason why you think the stroller won't be in use before then? also remember, car seats are heavy as it is plus the weight of the baby and it can be difficult even for husbands to carry around. and then i feel bad for baby too cos a stroller is a smooth push; carrying a car seat and walking rocks the baby around- i've seen some people get so vigorous with it lol they knock it against their legs as they walk.

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

I have the key fit 30 as well. We toyed with getting the maclaren snap-n-go ( only one that works with the chicco, I think), but ended up just getting the car seat attachment or our citi mini stroller by baby jogger. Worked fine, but not as light weight as the snap-n-go.

i think the graco snugride gives you the most options for stroller compatibility, or the peg perego primo viaggio.

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

Hey i was talking to a friend she mentioned she used her keyfit carseat with Kolcraft Universal Carseat Carrier… it won’t snap in place but theres a strap that will hold the carseat in place

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

oh thank you soo much girls.. I think I am going with the carrier for the car seat.. sounds like that’s a MUST!! what woudl I do without you GS ladies?!?!!? :flower1:

and my stroller budget is going up as well (thats what happens after 3 hours of reserach and reading reviews) I am leaning towards the Peg Perego Si or Pliko P3..it’s a lot more than I thouhgt I will spend on car seat n stroller together but since I ended up spending less on a crib than planned budget so there is a lot of flexibility.. I hope by the end of the day I would have figured something out.. hubby isn’t home otherwise it would be quicker than that.. I am supposed to have a list and reviews ready for him!!

Sahar.. did you end up buying a lot of accessories with the stroller or not?

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

^Only recently got a tray for her. Otherwise I haven’t, though I have been tempted by this: Amazon.com: Universal Parent Console : Baby

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

Also check out the Peg Perego Pliko Switch Compact. its a good stroller too- full features as a big stroller but very lightweight. the seat reclines all the way too.
the Si is extremely cute though! i remember thinking if i ever need an umbrella stroller, thats the one i’m going to get. it comes in this gorgeous green colour.

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

I go out alone a lot. My husband's job is just tough. He'll also be taking our only car to another state now when he starts a new job. So I kept in mind a lot of factors. I didn't want anything too heavy.. I researched and researched. I loved Graco b for bear car seat. Its neutral color and light weight compared to other car seats I tried. I lifted each one to check their weight, if I could carry it easily. You'll need a stroller.. you can't not not buy one. I suggest that you get a frame to fit your car seat in rather than the bulky stroller. My baby was born in March which is winterish in NY. Now at 3 months, he goes out almost everyday for walks with me. Although your baby will be born in winters, you'll see how fast spring/summer will come where you'll always want to take your baby out. Don't think "JUST NOW", think long term.

I'll be getting Maclaren Quest I think. I go out to central park, museums, etc and Maclaren is the only brand I see people have here. So there must be something good about it. And I didn't get baby bjorn ... don't see myself carrying my baby. Who needs the extra weight on them!

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

LOL sgc.. I saw that but it was $400+.. I am loving the Kiwi color for Peg Perego Pliko P3.. so if we bought one, that color will be it!!
I saw Zippy this morning and was totally in love but the color choices were kind of dull.

Spiral.. I was about to send you a PM.. do you know if the Babies R us in NYC carries Peg Perego so I can try them out.. we dont have any plans to go to NY yet but I remember you mentioned that Babies R us there has a full floor of strollers and such so we may just drop by, test out the strollers, eat some desi food and head home :-D

I think you guys are right in terms of using the stroller a lot more than I am thinking.. I dunno why but I never liked strollers, something there doesnt attract me but I am hoping a light weight, cool color stroller will probably help me like strollers!! (talk about being superficial but thats the only thing where I am counting the looks as well).

Sahar.. go for it.. you deserve that much and more ;-)

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

gtg, it comes with the car seat for that price too, no? i could be remembering that wrong though...

Re: the stroller, the travel system, the car seat..

nopse just the stroller.. with car seat it's around $650!!
