THE STATUS OF THE SUNNAH IN ISLAM

If we follow Faceup's logic then I guess everything we do is wrong and fabricated. For intance where in Quran does it describe in detail on how muslims should pray, do ablution, follow timings of salat, distribute the Fard, Sunnat and Nafl while praying etc. This was all taught to us by the Prophet (PBUH) or was it? If Hadith is fabricated then how can we be certain that all the rest is authentic. Now the Sunnas are documented but all these other procedures that we follow are not even documented and have been carried over for 14 centuries or maybe longer. For all we know they might be a part of Arabic culture confused with religion.

We should abandon that as well right? I am just confused since I am not as smart as Faceup to come up with an explanation for this. So please enlighten us on your stand on this and reply with an answer and not a question which you do more often than necessary.

Also, I will repeat Salafi's question of what religious authority/religion do you follow? I am sure you cannot be embarrased or ashamned of your believes as you do a very vocal job of ridiculing our faith, which means you feel your belief is superior. Please tell us and we might all start believing in your convictions and become better muslims or whatever religion you are.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Some amazing points raised herein and on other threads about validity of following the Sunnah.

The irony of these discussions can be described in a single ahadith of Sahee Muslim which clearly states:

The messenger of Allah said," Don't write from me anything other then Quran. If somebody have written something, delete it"!!

The message of this hadith is NOT to write the prophet's hadith. So, what do we do? We go out and compile thousands of his hadiths a few hundred years after his passing.

It did not end there either. These hadiths or sunnahs then became the cornerstone of our Sunni madhab. I agree with faceup's assumptions that:

i) the Sunnahs are de-facto the meanings of the Quran and have been superimposed over the Quran.

ii) the sunni madhab is based upon the Sunnah. The salat is not from the quran, it is from the sunnah. The roza(fasting), zakat, jehad, shahada, in its present form, is all from the sunnah.

iii) there are quite a few hadiths that are insulting to the prophet & Islam and are in no way related to spirituality. Why do we need hadiths re: prophet's sperm-stained clothes and going to mosque with sperm-stain visible or the sexual prowess of the prophet or 101 plus ways to piss or that the majority of hell-dwellers will be women; etc, etc.

Faceup draws a very striking conclusion and that is: To follow the sunnah that are historical acts & sayings of a certain era or the 7the century Arabia is to follow that era or 7th century for all times.

I don't think that Islam can claim to have all the answers and then shut up its followers in the 7th century. Somewhere, along the line, we - the ummah have erred/deviated in a major way.

Instead of correcting ourselves, it seems we are being asked to go even "more rigidly" to the 7th century traditions of the prophet. And, the irony & blasphemy in all this is that the Prophet(s) commanded against this.

Talibans are wahabis. Their origin starts from Ibn-saud and Abdul-wahab. Both these guys were destroyers of Islam and Islamic heritage in Makkah and Madinah. They massacared muslims in Makkah and Madinah during 1800 and again in 1924. Now their heirs are trying to destroy Islam and trying to give it a bad name by encouraging Talibans.

Salam-a-lekum brothers and sisters,
It is very unfortunate that we muslims are divided. I am a follower of Sunnah and believe that the "Wahabi" sect has distorted the image of Islam all over the world. I am a Hanafi sunni but I have a bunch of friends from other sects. We all eat and talk together. Those people ( maliki, shafae, shias, sufis) are all nice people. "Wahabis" are the extremist of all and their problem is that they dont listen. They do not have a good tolerant behaviour. The Talibans in Afghanistan are a brutal example of this behaviour. The Talibans (Wahabis) do not allow women to get education, they kill people without giving them a chance to prove innocence.
One thing I do not understand is that "The talibanis (wahabis) who cannot control their own temper, how would they control (govern) a government. The taliban (wahabis) are brutal like animals.
We (hanafis, shafae, hanbali, shias, and sufis) had been living together for a long period of time with full harmony. Though we had some differences but we all believe in One Allah, His messenger (Prophet Mohammed s.a.w) and quran. It is the terrible fitna of Wahabiism that has destroyed the unity of Muslims, therefore Wahabis are the enmies of Islam and Muslims.
Allah-o-akbar!
Labbaik Ya-Rasoolallah (s.a.w).

I am a follower of Sunnah (hanafi muslim) and whenever i go to medina i say assalam-o-alekum ya rasoolallah because it is in accordance with the verse of quran about "saying salam to Prophet Mohammed (s.a.w) and his family".
It is not worshipping him or anything.
Here is a very clear logic:
"A scholar from Egypt came to Saudi Arabia and presented King Fahad the Holy Quran wrapped in a LEATHER CASE. King Fahad kissed the leather case in which the Quran was wrapped. The Egyptian scholar from Jama-Al-Azhar then asked Fahad : Why did u kiss the leather caes, its made up of animal skin which is najis (dirty). The King replied: Well I intended to kiss the QURAN INSIDE the leather caes. The Egyptian scholar replied: I feel sorry for you Oh King Fahad because you Wahabis have double-standards. If you can KISS the leather case while focussing on the Holy Quran inside, Why do u object us when we try to KISS the grave of QURAN'S SAVIOUR( Prophet Mohammed s.a.w.). The weirdo King Fahad had no answer."

Salam brothers and sisters,
We are muslims and thats all we should care about. *It is the fitna of Wahabis (talibans, sipah sahaba and so on) that has divided Muslims among sects. These fanatics are brutal and they dont listen. Jawan is an example of those people. These wahabis get paid to divide Muslims and to divide ahle-sunnah wal-jamaat. The true aqeeda (concept) of ahle-sunnah wal jamaat is to be polite and courteous to every muslim (no matter what sect that muslim belong to , be him be maliki, shia, sufi, hanbali, hanafi, shafaee) *.
The wahabis believe that anybody who disagree with them , they should kill him/her. They do not listen. The wahabis belonging to Sipah Sahaba and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi even said that if u kill a shia or hanafi ahle-sunnah wal jamaat( from tableeghee jamaat or sunni tehreek), then these wahabis say that u can go to heaven. As if they are the owners of heaven. The wahabis and Saudi Govt pay millions of Saudi Riyals to these agents to kill innocent Muslims (Killing of 70 shai doctors and 23 Ahle-sunnah sunni ulema by Sipah Sahaba is a clear witness).
The wahabis whole purpose is to create misunderstanding and hate among Muslims.
May Allah have mercy on us and may Allah protect our new generation from the fitna of Wahabis.
Labbaik Ya-rasool-allah (s.a.w).

Faceup: Your knowledge on Islam is very shallow. If you don't know that Allah has asked us to pray 5 times in the Quran, you should not be here arguing over religion with the rest of us here.
Allah Hafiz

To faceup:

You are an ignorant Wahabi! If you don't know what is in the Quran you ahve no right to argue about it. My advice to you is to read the Quran and understand what's in it. Don't fabricate the truth by saying "nowhere in the Quran Allah tells us to pray 5 times a day". The order to face Makkah or Kabaa for prayers is not something derived from Sunnah or Hadis. It is clearly written in the Quran. You will find it too if only you read it. Dont' come here making stories or saying things you have heard from your Wahabi friends. Verify the truth before you say anything.

Brother Shakir Salam,
I dont want to start another argument here but for your knowledge its not mentioned in quran to pray 5 times. But ** it does NOT mean that we pray less than 5 time (astaghfirallah). Our dear Prophet (s.a.w) always prayed five Fard salat a day and we follow the sunnah.**.
I am a hafiz and 50 years old and a graduate of Jama-Al-Azhar. The hukm (order) for salat is mentioned in Quran at several places therefore there is no argument about it.

Face up is also a nice guy. He is NOT a Wahabi. He is against Wahabi.

Wishing u the best.

Shakir brother,
Also check AbdulMalick's post up here. Its very true.

Salam brothers and sisters,
*note * Readers should check my conversation with Jawan in the section "Are wahabis enemies of Islam". Jawan is a liar . the last few posts in that section are a witness to his tuhmat (wrong blames ) on me. Astaghfirallah **
