The secret society of...

… girls who know how to apply liquid eyeliners. (sigh It’s Friday, and i don’t have any more classes, i’ve started a killer spring course, time for me to chill back). i reckon this is an art, only one of my friends knows how to apply liquid eyeliner. The rest of us can only watch her and beg her for tips and tricks. She claims she can do it with her eyes closed now… scary part is, i believe her. :frowning:

Okay so what’s the deal - anyone willing to share some secrets? i am serious now - how do you apply liquid eyeliner without ending up looking like a freaking raccoon?

Muchas gracias. :flower1: i have googled this, by the way, and i am glad to find i am not the only female who has struggled with this issue. Any female guppies who would be willing to let others into this secret society or is it some elite group restricting public membership? :halo:

i am absolutely, one hundred percent serious now - what’s the deal with liquid eyeliners? Why are they so difficult to apply (for me at least)?

A lot of it depends on the type of brush you're using i.e. is it a good quality brush or not. Also, you need to keep your hand very steady.
It's not all that difficult :) Keep the stroke long, steady and minimal. You can thicken it later if you think the line is too thin.

What's considered a good brush? Maybelline?

Steady hands - drat :(

A good brush? I guess fine bristles would make up a good brush.

Yeahhh steady hands :p

Practise! I can do it in a moving car. :p Wait, no actually I wait for the car to stop at red first. hehe

You have to have a steady hand or else it will come on wobbly .... which is very noticeable.

I just close my eye and start from the outer edge to the tip of my inner eye. Then, I go over it once more, usually starting from the middle working my way to the outer edge once more and even the inner tip depending on how it came on the first time. From the middle, it can go a bit higher here ... gives it a nice look. On the edges of the outer eye, I just extend it a bit .... sometimes make a slight, upward curve ... depends on how dramatic you want to make it look ... you can make a slight curve from the actual outer tip of the eye meeting the line drawn above. Looks good.

I hope that made sense.

I only use L'Oreal liquid liner.

Yea take up painting or something. Jaldi seekh jao gi :P

^ LOL @ painting. :frowning: hmmm i suck at painting. i draw, is that any good ? But yaar i can only draw stick figures :o

Mehnaz, Thanks yaar :flower1: Perfect. i might even have to keep a copy of your instructions and refer to them when i go home today and try it again. i’ll buy Loreal next time. That sounds really really complex though.

Cat-woman, That’s what my friend says - just keep practicing. Easy for her to say :frowning: i bet she could put it on in her sleep with one hand behind her back.

The brush i use (Maybelline) is very, very fine. But my problem is - either too much comes out, or too little… it never looks uniform. Wobbly is what it looks like. Either i look like a raccoon, or i look like i haven’t applied any.

Practice is the key i suppose.

It works.

Note, if the line applied is initially too thick, take a cotton bud, dip it in water and carefully and remove the excess

:flower1: :flower1: Okay, cool, thanks everyone :flower1: i feel a bit more courageous to keep trying. i was going to chuck the stupid thing in the bin. i’ll give it a few more tries Insha’Allah.

What I do when the eyeliner comes on too thick is take a Q-tip and dip the end in lotion (that's just cause it's much easier to remove the eyeliner without it leaving any dark marks) .... and just wipe it off with the tip of the Q-tip. It works!

It's not complex. It takes me less than 2 minutes. :p I just put down a lot of details for you.

Nadzzz you don’t need eyeliner yaar  :flower1:

Khayr, looks like the experts already hav egiven advice, and i’m no expert anyway

one thing i’d point out though: HICCUP said, dab excess away with water. that’s a disaster. never use water. use eye make up remover liquid.

wow! Masha’Allah. Seriously, Mehnaz, i think it’s an art. i really believe that - i have tried and tried, i have tried to keep my elbow on something firm while applying it, tried every single trick i read on google… nothing seems to work. So those gals who are able to do it - i salute them :k: It’s an art. Seriously. Until an individual tries it for her/himself, no one can appreciate how difficult it is. i was seriously thinking of just chucking the stupid thing even though i’ve used less than 1/4 of it… too bad i don’t have any female cousins around me, i would have given the eyeliner to them. i’m sure they would have been able to apply it.

Anywhoz - thanks a million to you, Hum Sa, Catwoman and Hiccup for your help :flower1: i REALLYYYY appreciate it. Will let you guys know how it turns out

works perfectly for me :hoonh:

not that i ever need to remove any excess :snooty: I apply perfectly :snooty:

note i repeated perfect :snooty:

Irem, i just wanna see how people do it - when my friend puts it on, she makes it look so natural you know, as though she was born with that eyeliner. i mean it’s weird to describe it, but she really has the ability to put it on without even thinking twice about it. And she told me she does it now without even thinking about it, whereas for me - it’s like a painful frustrating ordeal.

:flower1: Thanks yaar. i’m going to practice in the comfort of my home later today… will supply a progress update when i’m done

hmm acha i always use waterproof eyeliner, maybe urs is water soluble

anyways, i suck at applying liner, i dont think it suits my eyes anyway, i prefer using kaajal and mascara or eye pencil

Irem,

Can you use mascara to apply eyeliner? hmmmmm.

Is pencil easier? Never tried that either.

Nadia nai nai yaar i meant k mascara is the eye makeup i really like even though my younger brother reckons it makes me look evil :hoonh:

YESSS pencil is easier…try different colors of pencils with different eye shades…

btw yaar i dont wear that much makeup, only at shaaadis and stuff lagana parta hae museebat :smack:

Remember, use a Q-tip for excess liner.

Pencil fades ... at least on me ... and it smudges.

Mehnaz totally Q-tip :k:

AND if your line is kinda uneven, take a powder puff and dab some powder there gently, it really makes the line look smoother
