The Road To Damascus...

Pics I took of Seyeda Zainab - in Syria. This is where Bibi Zainab (Imam Hussain (as) sister) is said to be buried.

Inside seyda zainab - The Ladies section.

pretty calm and peaceful this timeof the day.

the view when u decide to look up…and feel mesmerized…

one of the pretty chandeliers.

The design above the entrance.

The Zari of Bibi Zainab. (Not really sure why there are clothes on top)

The male/female partition, although that man is on the wrong side.

Close up of the chandelier

Another view of the zari.

More to come…

Re: The Road To Damascus…

Wow! It is really breathtakingly beautiful. I hope I can go there one day.

Re: The Road To Damascus...

Damascus is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world and their chroniclers don't know for certain who's buried there?

Great pic though. I bet US Customs had a conniption when they saw a Syrian stamp on your passport.

Re: The Road To Damascus…

Thanks guys.

Janwar; are you going this year sometime? I hope you do get the chance, syria is a great place to visit. Havent been to Iran, but there are plans in the pipelines.

Dua Zahra: I can assure you I am on the right side of the partition.

Mehanz; I hope you will one day inshallah. an if you do, plz make it longer than a week. :bummer:

LuxuryItem: Sorry i didnt mean it like that. Although Shaam/Syria is belived as the authentic place of Bibi’s burial by most, they also have a seyda Zainab in Cairo and alexandria, as some believe that is the actual place of the grave. Hence the ‘is said to be’. However this is the most credible place out of all of them.

lucky for me, I didnt have to go thru US customs. They’d most likely would have pulled me in for grilling. UK one though, had no problem with it thankfully.

Re: The Road To Damascus…

These pics are of outside haram but in the inner courtyard. (Theres also an outer courtyard).

The huge doors to the inner courtyard.

The view when you enter the huge door;

The outside view of the mosque:

One of the doors to the entrance to the Zari/mosque.

Just before you enter the mosque, this is the porch going all the way around, with its intricate design. Its a cool place to sit when its packed in doors and too hot to sit in the courtyard.

(thats an iranian group)

We caught a baby pigeon waiting for its mam to feed it.

here she comes. The mam flew upto the baby several times, gave it food and flew off again to find more. We stood there and watched.

A lil girl oblivious to everything, playing in the courtyard.

Re: The Road To Damascus...

How Was the Food I love Arabic Food MMMMMMM?????

Re: The Road To Damascus…

Food is generally nice in Syria. The first night, we had a huge shwarma and salad, and it was decorated really nicely too. i dont remember much else, apart from chilloo kebab, iranian rice with fries (thats their style), huge naan that never dried up, and the ususal junk food like pizza and chips and bebsi etc. we also had a caterer who sometimes brought the food over if we were too knackered to eat out.

Oh yeah, we drank tea in tiny shot glasses, and with my father being used to drinking atleast 2 cup a day, those shot glassess were right teasers. one sip and its all gone. :hehe:

An apparently foreigners should stay away from eating salad as its most likely to cause a stomach upset. However, get this, daal as in lentils is a rare speciality in Syria, hence they’re very expensive too. So whenever we had a dawat, there was daal in all its glory. and it was bloomin delicious too :yummy: :k:

but yeah, over all the food was pretty good.

Re: The Road To Damascus...

Wow. Very beautiful.

Pics of Seyeda Zainab at night:

Minar

Thursday evening Dua Kumail time. Its pretty much packed and the atmosphere in the courtyard is great. People relaxing in the cool evening, meeting people from different parts of the world, kids playing about, and young girls selling stuff to the customers.

Re: The Road To Damascus...

Masha Allah nice pictures. Some of the pictures are really sharp but some are blurry try to keep your hands still for a second after taking picture. One question how you entered into Ladies section in very first picture (ignore my question if you are a female)
