Re: The Road To Damascus…
thanks shweets. Here some more:
A poster we often saw in syria, on the back of vehicles, showing the close relationship between lebanon/hezbullah, palestine and syria. actually whilst we were in Seyeda Zainab, Seyed Hassan Nasrullah (hezbullah leader) and Iranian former president Hashami Rafsanjani were also there for ziyarat. ![]()
On the way to Halab (City of Aleppo) we stopped at the river Euphrates (Furaat) coming from Iraq. It was th same river they say that yazid blocked off from Imam hussain (as) and his kaafila in kerbala.
Its was beautiful scene, we were facing an oncoming sand storm, hence the sandy/hazy background. It was quite bad when it hit. We asked our driver to stop on the road side whilst we get out and climb down the steep bank to the beach, but there was obviously some communication problem as the driver drove straight down the bank himself, with us screaming for our lives in the back. we told him we werent planning to drown ourselves here. He just laughed heartily.
evil kenievil.
here he is. he’s a teddy bear really.
Re: The Road To Damascus…
these rest of the pics from syria. Its been a while since i went, but what the heck…its worth it.
Remnants of fort in old damascus.
Decorations for Milaad un NAbi.
Mosque of Ommayad.
This is also known as Yazids court palace however, it was built in the 8th century and constantly under invading armies, including slahauddin’s. This where Hazrat Yaha’s (John the baptists) head was cut off by the king of the time, over a well. That well is still there and the story goes that the blood gushed out of it for years after. However at present the well mouth is is covered..
This is also the place where Imam Hussains Head was brought in, and and placed on a sliver platter and put on show. Its the place where the killers of kerbala brought Bibi Zainab, Imam sajjad, bibi sakina and women and children of the Imam. They waited in the palace for several days, while the bazaars were decorated and ppl gather inorder to view and jeer at the captives.
The pulpit from where imam sajjad gave his famous speech to yazid is till there as is the platform of yazids throne. Not only that, the narrow and suffocating bazaars that the captives were paraded through, are pretty much still in thier original form. The syrian gov. have done their best to preseve the historical sites.
Entrance from the inside of the palace.
The hall in which the well, yazids throne and the pulpit are.
This also called the minaret of Jesus as it is believed this where he (as) will return.

Absolutely gorgeous pictures. Thank you soooo very much for sharing. I really enjoyed looking at them.
Re: The Road To Damascus...
Dude, AWESOME pictures. Can you give more of a historical background about each place?
Re: The Road To Damascus...
Thanx guys. aahmed, i can try but can you tell me any in particular?
Although i went for a week and a half, which was actually good enough for the reason we went, i.e. ziyarat, however we couldnt get to all the historical places. For this reason id love to go to again. Syria is so rich historically and culturally, it actually seems as if all those ancient biblical events were centerd just in syria, and all those stories sort of come to life. :-)
Re: The Road To Damascus…
This next place is the grave of hazrat Habeel. Its on the border with lebanon.
The shajarah (family tree) from Hazrat Adam to Prophet Muhammad (as).
View from the carpark, and the public loos.

Towards the right of the alley is a small bazaar.
