Re: The rationale of modern marriage
Come on people. The guy put a lot of effort into that but no likes and no intellectual intercourse (remember that). If someone had posted some BS and asked advice on how to fry their MIL, there would be long paragraphs and a variation of opinion with a lot of follow ups.
Re: The rationale of modern marriage
^ LMFAO!!!
Re: The rationale of modern marriage
Some MIL's are total sluts you know. Don't go making fun of a real issue.
OMG are you trying to get banned so I can win that bet? SO SWEET!

I am not the least bit surprised. Considering their love for bollywood and saas bahu soaps, expecting them to think is a bit too much to ask I am afraid. They can't talk about the topic because Opera hasn't done a show about it.
Re: The rationale of modern marriage
The modern marriage is all about I, me and myself.
I have nothing more to say.

And This.
Re: The rationale of modern marriage
For every marriage that has failed I know of a marriage that is lasted decades. Its all about choices made, compromises achieved and how committed people are to each other. Its like a job, team sports etc. You gotta decide at the end of the day if its worth it to you.
Some people don't deserve to get married because they are selfish, egotistical and focused on themselves. The basic most simple premise of a marriage is that you are no longer responsible for yourself only. Very very few desi guys and gals get that in this day and age.
Re: The rationale of modern marriage
You know when i make the offer to any lady about marrying me in return for my promise for dirty laundry, I think to myself how stupid would any woman be accept my offer. Then i look at other stupid women and then I end up making my mind that we are all stupid.
Re: The rationale of modern marriage
I fail to find one.
There has to be more to it than sex. With women pushing for equal rights, the rationality of marriage itself is vanishing. Where it once used to transcend feelings, egos and passions, where husbands once had the sole juridical responsibility, now it's nothing more than a power struggle with a fragile plot. If something so moot and pointless as hurt feelings, bruised egos or incompatibility can bring upon the downfall of a marriage, what's the point of putting up the charade anyway? It's not the lack of love. It's the lack of mutual f***** respect. It's the abandoning of traditional gender roles. It is the ridiculous idea of wives thinking of themselves as equals.
"I chop the wood, you cook the food". How hard is it to grasp?
Readings books, watching TV, we have all been raised to believe that someday we will all find the love of our life, the soul mate, with whom we'll live happily ever after. So it's not suprising that as soon as our married lives start veering away from our pre-conceived notions of "love", divorce starts looking like a tempting prospect. And how convenient if divorce is no longer looked down upon in the modern society. You know what else is perfectly acceptable in the modern society? Homosexuality.
I was sickened beyond belief when someone on here mentioned a husband raising kids at home while his wife was out there making a living, putting food on the table. Orgasm inducing for most, vomit inducing for me. Is that what a modern marriage is supposed to be like? A p**** whipped husband changing diapers on his kids. He might as well have himself castrated.
Holy king Tut's long lost illegitimate kid! Look at the size of this troll post.
A for effort, B- for same ol same ol shizz.

Uh, didn't you get the memo? Us desis are obsessed with Opera, not only cuz their singing reminds us of punjabi curses, only difference their's are in baritone taking away the sting of the gaali, but also cuz their fat ladies rival our punjabi heeroweeens.

Re: The rationale of modern marriage
the traditional concept of marriage / family structure had to be dismantled. good or bad, i dont know. but there was no way it as going to continue in the face of new economic & social realities.
i would venture to say that now only those marriages last, for however long they do, that are genuinely based on love, and have some remnants of the old concept of marriage. the problem with this is: love is fickle these days, unaccompanied by the concept of sacrifice / compromise, while lust is abundant and nurtured by the media non-stop. hence marriages break all too often.
no more a free lunch, the marriage is for guys.
