The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

I did not know this. Please tell me more about the historical context under which this happened.

Is treason punishable by death - a perscription given in the Quran?

Re: The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

They deserved to die. End of story.

Re: The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

Please TRY to be open-minded rather than issue edicts as if Khuda ne aap ko kisi pedestal pe rakha hai?

Answer the question, please.

Re: The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

PCG, do you really think that any answer will satisfy your query? First of all, you will get ten different variations of the supposed "facts" and each one will argue that he/she is correct. That is why I keep saying, just concentrate what is in Quran and follow it...you will do just fine InshAllah.

Re: The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

Is sunnah doubtful if let’s say it is not directly in Quran?

anyway, those were the young men of Banu Quredha … penalty of treason is still many a time death in so-called civilized world. Some historians say that those were 800 and some say 500.

Re: The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

I'd like to know where this is coming from, because I can't google it - I'm assuming people here know what it is. If you don't wish to answer, then don't.

Re: The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

AQ, your link actually portrays our beloved prophet:saw: as a killer. Do you actually read your links before posting?

Re: The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

PCG

The Banu Quredha had a pact with the prophet SAW which they broke, and they allied with the Quraish and other pagan tribes who set out to invade Madinah in the battle of the Trench. Salman al-Farsi who was a companion of hte Prophet SAW suggested that they build a trench to defend Madinah from the coalition forces. Can you understand? They had a peace treaty with the Prophet S.A.W. and they broke it! A punishment like that is not extreme at all, in fact htey deserved much more.

And if you've any doubts, I'll gladly direct you to my source :)

Re: The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

Kaleem I wanted to post the audio link but I had copied something else to open in a new window to see what it was and forgot that the audio link was over written with that.

Sorry for that... Listen to Shaikh Makki there.

Re: The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

PyariG why do you ask this question begin with?

Why does one find these items be discussed on internet and ask questions from general people? Onyne reason.....they do not want to 'seek or learn'..they just want to start long discussion without any result whatsoever....

These guys will never try authentic islamic sites or refer a book. Got my point my friends?

Re: The Prophet Kills 500 Jews?

Although referenced by the Hadith, the details of the incident comes from one source: Ibn Ishaq who wrote the first Sirat (or biography) of the prophet(pbuh). It is not without controversy. Imam Malik (THE Imam Malik) refused to accept the authenticity of the incident, and referred to it as a strange tale. His reasons was that the only sources for this tale were the descendents or womenfolk of the Banu Qurzya (only the fighting men were killed). Later biographers culled it from their versions of the Sirat…but their source was only Ibn Ishaq’s bio…his is the most comprehensive.

It must be said that Imam Malik, a contemporary of Ibn Ishaq, rejected the entire Sirat as unreliable. This is not to be taken lightly (although it is by many scholars desperate for a complete biography of the prophet(pbuh)).

Sa‘d ibn Mu‘adh was the one who ordered the killing of all the men, according to Ibn Ishaq. The Prophet did not interfere, as the Jewish tribal leader himself selected this person to judge over them. Sa’d judged according to the Torah.
It is also mentioned in the Hadith.

Here’s a retelling of the history behind the incident:

Anti-Islam bigots like to point out that this is the “Islamic” point of view..i.e. the party line. I simply point out that there is no other source except for the Islamic point of view, so live with it. One may paint the prophet (pbuh) as being responsible, but our interpretation of history (and this is all that matters to us as this is what guides us) does not agree with this line of thought.
