Re: the problem with this forum
It's common sense: don't reply to a thread unless you have something meaningful to contribute. Some forum members need to learn this.
so who will decide if something is "meaningful" or not? OP?

OP, members participating in the discussion and the moderator team.

4) Do you ever find yourself investing so much time in this forum that it prevents you from having real social relationships?
I think Monk can answer this question better. Currently he is trying to handle issues with his imaginary gassy churail like wife. Clearly a result of no real social relationships.

the problem with life1 is.... its in dire need of new material. :@:

Most of the time when OP does not like whats been posted or said, it comes as not-so-meaningful post to him/her. Something meaningful to one might not be so for other unless of course its totally out of context...

By meaningful I mean: full of meaning/helpfulness directed to the topic at hand. Just because a comment is not what the OP wants to hear, doesn't mean that the he/she would deem it to be not meaningful. Anyway, when people make irrelevant and unnecessary comments (which yes, do often tend to be rude), they are not meaningfully contributing to the situation that the OP is discussing, and thus are better off not posting at all.

more than half of the comments made are by those who dont really care to give any positive real meaningful advice .. they just want to show how much of a smart-ass they are and get the applause of other smart asses ..
It's not about introducing new policies ... Thorey sey bharam dalne paraingey ta k guppies think twice about diverting or casually replying to threads. Case and point KK1. Don't worry about number of posts etc.
Re: the problem with this forum
I've been following this forum for a while but only post on it when I have something meaningful to ask or say. I see many others who post on it incessantly and don't even offer meaningful advice. I was frankly quite disappointed with this forum when I sought advice here once about a dress but it turned into a personal attack on people's own in-laws and since then haven't bothered. But recently I find that many posters motivations for being on this forum really disturb me. Many who frequent this forum need to evaluate why they post here and/or find more meaningful ways to channel their ill-feelings towards other.
That said, I have a few questions for those who post here regularly.
1) Do you consider this to be a place where people offer genuine advice or is this just somewhere you can rant about problems in your life? 2) When you post here about some genuine issue are you looking for your opinion to be changed or do you simply want your voice to be heard? 3) Many of you criticize others people in your life on this forum. Do you ever approach those people in real life and try to resolve those issues or are you closed up to them in real life? 4) Do you ever find yourself investing so much time in this forum that it prevents you from having real social relationships?
i'd like to hear your answers to these questions as you seem to be quite bothered about the forum. i'm curious why you would continue being a lurker if everything you see here is so abhorrent to you. are you spending time on GS to run away from issues in your life instead of having discussions with the people involved? because that would be lame. and hypocritical.
in answer to your questions:
1. both. it depends on the forums you frequent and the questions you ask. the rule of thumb is: the dumber the question, the more ridiculous the answers. as someone else mentioned, for eg, Weddings, Parenting, Fashion & Beauty, Health, and Household forums are usually full of very valuable posters who have equally valuable advice to offer, and they do so frequently.
2. both. nothing wrong with either, is there?
3. i haven't yet done that and will not in the future either, unless it is a private entry in my private blog to be shared with guppans i consider friends and whose opinions i value. just like i would only consult on issues with the people close to me in real life too.
4. not at all lol.
People reply with their life experiences in mind...as in what they would do in that situation.
Take the advice or leave it.
Re: the problem with this forum
There is too much of a herd mentality. Be independent and true to yourself. Your opinion may run contrary to the majority. So what? Mods should Aldo not hesitate to take the other side of a fellow mod if situation warrants. Keep it simple and real.
